Lyla Foy: "Honeymoon" video (Rookie premiere) + WFUV session

from Mirrors the Sky, her Sub Pop debut,
via Rookie Magazine
http://www.rookiemag.com/2014/07/lyla-foy/WFUV Performances of "Honeymoon" & "Impossible"
http://www.wfuv.org/audio/archives/fuv-live/lyla-foy-fuv-live-2014European summer tour dates
July 19th-August 31st
We’re pleased to share Lyla Foy’s official video for Mirrors the Sky highlight “Honeymoon,” directed by Mark Donne and Joe Morris. Rookie, who premiered the clip, had this to say, “While listening to Lyla Foy’s debut full-length album...it’s difficult not to drift off into a daydream. Lyla sings with a soft, ethereal quality over sparse, twinkly electronic sounds that float into the back of your mind and nestle there, as you can see in this dreamy video for the single “Honeymoon (see premiere & interview July 14th).”
Lyla Foy’s previously announced European tour dates in support of Mirrors the Sky, resume July 19th in Glasgow, UK at Classic Grand (with Phosphorescent) and currently end with a two-night stand on August 30th & 31st in North Dorset, UK at End of the Road Festival. Additional highlights include:August 1st in Katowice, PL at OFF Festival’s Sub Pop stage; August 13th in Zurich, CH at Maag Halle supporting the National. Please find a complete list of tour dates below.
In related news, Lyla Foy recently visited New York’s WFUV to perform “Honeymoon” and “Impossible,” on a recent tour stop in support of Mirrors the Sky (see June 30th session).
What people are saying about Lyla Foy:
Foy’s songs are both lush and low-key, intimate and surprisingly intricate. She layers beats generously but carefully, alternating between buoyant (“I Only”, with its percolating intro) and bittersweet (“Only Human”, with its insistent snare tap). Except on the relatively aerodynamic “Feather Tongue”, which could easily be remixed into a throbbing dance number suitable for a meadow rave, Foy’s concern isn’t rhythm but texture and tapestry. The tempos are generally slow and rigid, which fits the general atmosphere of the record and gives you a better opportunity to admire her craft.” - Pitchfork
“Her full-length debut, Mirrors the Sky, is a sensitive and stirring excursion through stormy relationships, showcasing Foy's dreamy vocals.” - WFUV
“If you mix Kate Bush vocals with Postal Service sounds, the result would be Lyla Foy.” - All Songs Considered
'...think of an indie Kate Bush, Foy's voice both thrilling and soothing and winds definitely and occasionally desperate romanticism around the colliding worlds of folk and electro pop. - Q Magazine
“...Her silken, sultry vocals are barley there at times, but commands great emotional power, from the desolate swooning of “Honeymoon” to the voluptuously tragic “Warning” - Uncut Magazine
“Thoughtful, slow burning dream pop from the Londoner who alloys Lana Del Rey's cheek-sucking gothic romanticism to Feist's cerebral folk dexterity on cool, accomplished but still minimal sounding debut.” - Mojo Magazine
"Mirrors the Sky is a beautiful debut by an incredibly talented musician who has very bright prospects for the future" - The 405
"It's warm, pretty, and quite often stunning" - This Is Fake DIY
"It’s an astral display of how elegant, melodic and emotional pop can be" - Music OMH
"There’s no denying the talent at play here" - Drowned In Sound

The “elegant pop song” ‘Mother & Father’ “offers a sign of what comes next” for the pair (The FADER Magazine) and has garnered early praise as “nothing short of an emotional triumph” (Idolator). Listen to the stream here .
‘L.A.F.’, is described by Georgia as their most experimental tune to date. Driven by “a beat that then explodes into a jam like too much oxygen and crashing waves…” (MTV News) the tune is “true to their style while making it bigger and better” (Pigeons and Planes). Lizzie and the Yes Men to release EP

SINGLE ‘WALK ALONE’ OUT ON AUGUST 4TH 2014
EP OUT ON SEPTEMBER 8TH ON 100M RECORDS After the release of a series of infectious singles last year, London band Lizzie and the Yes Men are now planning to put out an EP of brand new songs on August 11th though NYC label 100M. A photograph titled ‘Angel Woman’ by Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide and a long road trip through the American desert were the inspirations for ‘Walk Alone EP’. A record on which the band feels it has found its own sound, a sound that is never too far away from a dusty road, a bare landscape or a black and white cinema screen. Brooklyn Vegan premieres Flashlights "Failure" video
Brooklyn Vegan Premieres Flashlights "Failure" VideoFlashlights' Bummer Summer Out Now On Hard Rock RecordsFall Tour Dates With Paws Announced
"a big step forward and wonderful second record for Flashlights. It's an album that took risks with an already successful formula, and those risks yielded some dynamic results." - PopMatters "Taking inspiration from '90s indie heroes Sebadoh, Archers of Loaf and Superchunk, Flashlights' riveting guitar pop continues to evolve in a big way on their upcoming full-length album." - PureVolume
"Every song here tells a different story of difficulties, seasons of change, past friendships, and situations to see us through summer 2014." - Impose Magazine Watch: "Failure" video via Brooklyn Vegan or YouTubeStream: "Failure" via PureVolume or SoundCloud Brooklyn Vegan has premiered the new Flashlights' video for "Failure" from the band's album Bummer Summer. The video directed by No Anchor is also available to post and share via YouTube. Bummer Summer is out available now on Hard Rock Records and via iTunes. The album follows up 2011's I'm Not Alone and was produced by Scott Hutchison and Andy Monaghan of Frightened Rabbit. It is full of songs about dead end jobs and lousy living conditions, heartbreaks and hangovers. And, of course, there are also songs about cats. Flashlights just announced a fall tour with Paws and Total Slacker. The upcoming tour will make stops in major markets including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago and more. All upcoming dates are listed below.
Who exactly are Flashlights? They tour in a van and sleep on couches. They have a strange affinity for cats and Pokemon. They're called Flashlights and they are a rather spectacular band from the decidedly unspectacular Brevard County, Florida. What began as a solo acoustic project for 24-year-old singer/guitarist Terry Caudill in 2007 has added various members from the local punk scene before settling on their current lineup of Tony Oriza on guitar, Will Powell on bass and Melissa Hopkins on drums.
Creaky and hissy, you would be forgiven for confusing it with early Archers of Loaf, Superchunk orBuilt to Spill. Caudill's voice has been favorably compared to the likes of Lou Barlow and Jeff Mangum. Bummer Summer lives up to its name but it also manages to find hilarity in humility and beauty in the bleak.
Bummer Summer is out now on Hard Rock Records and the band will be taking to the highway this summer and into the fall, following up on the momentum of their recent national tour with Miniature Tigers and Total Slacker. Bummer Summer is available on all digital services, CD and a red and purple color vinyl LP. Even Grumpy Cat would totally approve.

ADA and Warner Music Norway introduces MONICA HELDAL.
If you take the effortless, ethereal vocal delivery of Alisson Krauss, pair it with guitar skills capable of shredding acoustic versions of any Zeppelin anthem, and then mix the two with a gift for songwriting worthy of garnering endorsements from the likes of icons such as Tom Petty, you have a recipe for a very compelling artist. Throw in two "Norwegian Grammy Awards" (Spellemannprisen Awards) for "Best New Artist" and "Best Pop Solo Artist" and you have the brilliant Norwegian, 22-year old singer/songwriter, Monica Heldal.
Part Americana, part Bluegrass, part Irish Folk - Heldal's acclaimed debut album, Boy From The North, which spent 21 weeks on the Top 40 albums chart in Norway, will be arriving in the US on September 16th via ADA/Warner Music Norway. Following a sold-out Norwegian tour, as well as an opening slot for Tom Petty, Heldal quickly caught the attention of Warner Bros. executives in 2013 and was immediately signed to Warner Music Norway with major plans world-wide.
Boy From The North is the culmination of Heldal's many musical influences - including Nick Drake, Emmylou Harris, Irish blues artist Rory Gallagher, and acoustic segments from Led Zeppelin's portfolio - that allows the Bergen, Norway native to capture the increasingly popular Americana/Bluegrass vibes such as artists like Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers.
