M83
REISSUES FIRST THREE ALBUMS
ON AUGUST 25TH, 2014
REMIXES AND B-SIDES EPS
OUT SEPTEMBER 9, 2014
Four years on from the Grammy nominated, critically acclaimed release
Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming
(featuring platinum selling single “Midnight City”), French electronic act M83 re-issues their first three albums in addition to two digital EPs featuring remixes and B-sides from those albums. After several years of being out of print,
M83
(2001), Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts (2004), and
Before the Dawn Heals Us
(2005) will be released August 25th, 2014 on CD, vinyl, and digital download via Mute.
Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts Remixes and B-sides
and
Before The Dawn Heals Us Remixes and B-Sides
will be available digitally September 9, 2014 on Mute.
M83 has become a household name amongst music lovers due to extensive success across many formats. Since Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, not only has M83’s Anthony Gonzalez scored two films:Oblivion (featuring Tom Cruise) and You and the Night (directed by his brother Yann Gonzalez), but his music has been used across a plethora of movies, television shows and commercials, most recently in films The Fault In Our Stars, The Vampire Diaries, and 22 Jump Street. Huffington Post even reported, “few recent albums have had a bigger impact on movie music than M83’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.” At radio, M83 reached #1 on the CMJ charts, #1 at Commercial Specialty, and #5 in Commercial Alternative Radio, while receiving rave reviews from publications across the world, including Pitchfork, Spin, Entertainment Weekly, XLR8R, Filter, and countless others.
Now, after being unavailable for the past several years, fans can access M83’s organic beginnings:
Aptly titled M83, this album served as the French electropop outfit’s debut release in 2001 on Gooom. Recorded as a duo by founding members Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau, the album was described by Pitchfork as “how it feels to live inside a triumphal music box.” The track names can be read in order to describe a boy/girl meeting at a party. Taken in tow with the sampled movie dialogue throughout, the album serves as a poignant soundtrack for the simplest of scenarios.

Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts was M83’s second release, and first to be released in the US, on Mute. Originally released in 2003 in Europe, Mute released the album in 2004 in North America to critical acclaim. Included in Pitchfork’s Top 200 Albums of the 2000s, Dead Seas was noted for what Filter Magazine called an “organic component that coexists along with the machines, giving them a warmth few acts have been able to unearth.” This was the last album featuring Nicolas Fromageau.

Lauded by Spin as one of 2005’s Next Big Things, with glowing press from Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Vice, Pitchfork and a myriad of other publications, M83 saw their first major television commercial with “Don't Save Us From The Flames” featured in a Pontiac ad. 2005 also saw M83 perform at the prestigious Lollapalooza, Coachella, Austin City Limits, and headlining KEXP’s Benefit Concert in Seattle.

Axxa/Abraxas Shares Video for "I Almost Fell"
Fall Tour with Beach Fossils and Heavenly Beat
Self-Titled Debut Out Now
Today Axxa/Abraxas (aka Ben Asbury), shares the video for his single "I Almost Fell", from his recently released S/T debut. With the help of newly formed friends in Asheville (Asbury recently relocated to the city), the video came together, piece by piece over several weeks. When asked to describe the video, this is what he said...
Monotony, reflexive, the same, unchanging.
Habitual existence, societal, normative. Just world beliefs abounding.
No Control. The future's never sound.
Blind step, guided externally, cultivate faith in acceptence.
As you pass through the stages and grow weary, distorted, grapsing into emptiness
and find, in splendid truth, the freeing of the illusion
and there is no future
follow yr bliss.

"Chinatown Style"
Psychic 9-5 Club
Directed by Nathan Corbin
11:35 min
Short film for New York City starring Chinatown.
Year of the Horse.
Nathan Corbin - "I worked as a delivery boy in Manhattan in my early twenties. It’s an intimate way to experience the city. The delivery is a conduit into an extended, physical exchange. It can be erotic and psychedelic; the repetition of ‘opening‘ in a city full of guarded skyscrapers and locked doors. You float invisibly, drifting from one ambiance to the next.
In NYC there is fluidity between everyone. You’re constantly 'encountering' people. Always entering. The energy can vary wildly with successive shifts from light to dark to light like yin-yang. You found luck! You find yourself in a utopian center: a Psychic 9-5 Club.
People are dancing.
I chose to work with people I didn’t know for the most part..so that our interaction was new, innocent..like a delivery.
The cinematography concept was crucial. Shoot with a wide angle lens to create that innocence. You see everything so the ‘gaze’...the obsessive and voyeuristic part of looking is reduced. The eye of an open heart."

The Casket Girls Release "Secular Love" RemixSummer Tour Dates AnnouncedSophomore Album True Love Kills The Fairy Tale Out Now On Graveface Records
"The Casket Girls' brand of goth pop is definitely dark, but it's a perfect mixture of doom and optimism that keeps you hanging on every word." - Bust
"This is about as close to a Top 40 record as Graveface Records is ever gonna get, albeit one that's spiked with strychnine and bittersweet melodies." - eMusic
"Think '60s girl group, if they wore all-black and performed at seances." - Nylon
Listen: "Secular Love" Strange Majik Remix via Earbuddy or SoundCloud Listen : "Secular Love" via SoundCloud
The Casket Girls have announced a summer tour in support of their critically acclaimed sophomore album True Love Kills The Fairy Tale available now on CD, LP and cassette on Graveface Records. The tour will kick off on July 28 in the band's hometown of Savannah, GA at the Graveface HQ and will include a performance in NYC at the South Street Seaport. All upcoming shows are listed below. More info on the tour and tickets links are available here. The Casket Girls also released a remix of "Secular Love" by Amazing Radio's Strange Majik. The track premiered on Earbuddy who said, "Strange Majik has transformed the electro-goth pop original into a more reggae-influenced summery jam" and is available to post and share via SoundCloud.
So many pieces of Savannah, GA three-piece The Casket Girls seemed to happen by accident. From their beginning - when electronic sound-shaper Ryan Graveface (Graveface Records, Dreamend, Black Moth Super Rainbow) found sisters Phaedra and Elsa Greene under a tree in one of Savannah's many squares, playing Autoharp and singing bizarre songs - to the night they composed their sophomore album, True Love Kills the Fairy Tale, under circumstances that fall somewhere between séance and dream state, nearly everything about The Casket Girls seems to have been inspired by some kind of spooky happenstance. But then again, the Greene sisters don't believe in accidents.
"I dropped off a shit ton of songs to the girls to work on one night," Graveface says of the genesis ofTrue Love, the follow up to Casket Girls' critically acclaimed 2012 debut. "I went back to check on their progress, because they weren't answering their phones. I don't know if they dropped acid or what, but I walked in and Elsa was sobbing and reciting poetry while Phaedra was just staring straight ahead writing it all down, like catatonic. The next day they dropped off a CD and said, 'We don't even know what's on this. You can throw it in the garbage if you want.' I sat down and listened all the way through and cried. I was like, 'Holy shit! They actually wrote a record like that!' I booked studio time and had them re-record every note just as it was on the demo. They really didn't remember any of it. Had to learn the songs as if someone else had written them entirely. Very bizarre."
Phaedra and Elsa had filled the disc with lilting, almost whimsical melodies about chemical hazes and love gone sour like a couple of fucked up Shangri-las, to which Graveface added a bevy of grinding, multi-dimensional psych-rock keys that will be familiar to anyone with a Graveface LP in their collection. The title track speaks like an unknown voice in a lucid dream - perhaps the one that conveyed these songs through the veil in the first place -beckoning, "True love kills the fairy tale... until heart and lungs fail." It's this twisted and comforting charm, which set in motion the Graveface-Greene love affair in the first place, that relieves us from fear.
The Casket Girls have gained momentum and a substantial cult following due to the unflagging catchiness of their songwriting and the compelling development of their live stage show. They spent the last year and a half touring in support of BMSR and The Faint before growing into headliners in their own right.

GRAMMY-WINNING POP SINGER DEBUTS NEW TRACK ' MIRACLE ' OFF FORTHCOMING ALBUM, THE GOLDEN ECHO, DUE AUGUST 19TH ON WARNER BROS. RECORDS
July 22nd, 2014 - NZ/LA-based artist Kimbra will hit the road this fall for a U.S. headlining tour. The tour, supported by electro-pop artist Empress Of, kicks off on October 20th in San Francisco and stops in major cities across the country through November 9th. Tickets go on sale on July 25th. Kimbra will also perform at the Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas, which takes place October 24th-26th. (For more info, visit http://lifeisbeautiful.com/.)
Kimbra is touring in support of her new album The Golden Echo, which will be released on August 19th via Warner Bros. Records. Her celebratory new track, ' Miracle ,' debuted yesterday. Produced by Kimbra and Rich Costey, it features contributions from acclaimed bassist Thundercat, Daniel Johns (Silverchair) and legendary drummerJohn JR Robinson (Michael Jackson, Daft Punk). The album is available for pre-order from all participating retailers. Those who pre-order will receive three instant downloads of the album tracks " 90s Music ," " Love In High Places " and " Nobody But You ."
The ultimate modern pop record, The Golden Echo is ambitious, sophisticated, and complex, just like its creator. The New Zealand-born singer and songwriter wrote the songs in her bedroom studio on a farm in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, where she was surrounded by sheep and lambs owned by her landlady. A riot of genres, from Prince-like funk, to sing-songy electro-pop, to eerie space-age hip-hop, The Golden Echo was produced by Kimbra alongside Rich Costey (Foster The People, Interpol, Muse), and features further contributions from R&B singer Bilal to Queens Of The Stone Age bassist Michael Shuman, as well as famed string arranger Van Dyke Parks.
The Golden Echo is Kimbra's second album. Her 2011 debut, Vows , bowed at No. 14 on the Billboard Top 200 and was certified platinum in Australia and New Zealand. Kimbra exploded into the public consciousness that same year with "Somebody That I Used To Know," a duet with Gotye that earned her Grammy Awards for "Record of the Year" and "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance." The song topped Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 2012 and was the best-selling song of that year in the U.S. It has sold more than 13 million copies.

Johnny Marr Announces New Solo Album "Playland"
JOHNNY MARR ANNOUNCES SECOND SOLO ALBUM "PLAYLAND" - OUT OCTOBER 7 VIA WARNER MUSIC GROUP
ALBUM AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER ON ITUNES AND AMAZON
Johnny Marr has announced the release date for his second solo album "Playland,"which is set for release on October 7 via Warner Music Group, and available for pre-order now on iTunes andAmazon. Last year, the legendary guitarist for The Smiths enjoyed a monumental start to his solo career with an abundance of critical acclaim (including the honor of being named NME's 'Godlike Genius') for his Top 10 debut solo album "The Messenger." Meanwhile, his shows were celebrated for his ability to combine the best of his new material with select highlights from The Smiths, plus others from his extensive back catalog.
Johnny Marr's upward trajectory continues unabated with the release of "Playland." Work on the album commenced in London in spring 2014 as soon as the year of touring in support of 'The Messenger' came to a close. It finds Marr continuing the creative connection that was forged on 'The Messenger' with collaborator and co-producer Doviak, as well as the other musicians who performed on the album and accompanying tour.
As Johnny states,"When 'The Messenger' came out I kept on writing. I liked that the band had a momentum going on tour and a connection with the audience, and I thought that energy would be good to capture on the new record."
Written around a common theme of "songs that move at the speed of life," 'Playland' captures much of the spirit that made 'The Messenger' so memorable with energetic, post-punk songwriting complemented by Johnny Marr's characteristic guitar style, thought-provoking lyrical ideas and poised vocal phrasing. "It's important to sound like your environment and on this record that's London and Manchester," he adds. "The feeling of the cities and the people make it into the music."
The title "Playland" is inspired by Homo Ludens, a 1938 book by the highly influential Dutch cultural theorist Johan Huizinga, which explores the concept of play as a precursor and principal element of cultural development.
One of Marr's favorite performances of 2014 to date came when he performed at the premiere ofThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 in New York City. His contributions to the film's soundtrack (scored by Hans Zimmer) included a songwriting collaboration with Pharrell Williams, while he also performed the closing credits theme song "It's On Again" with Alicia Keys and KendrickLamar on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Johnny toured extensively in support of 'The Messenger' with highlights including three sold-out shows in Manchester; major London dates at The Roundhouse and the O2 Shepherd's BushEmpire; as well as festival appearances including Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds and T in the Park. His next UK headline tour includes his largest London solo headline show to date at the O2 Academy Brixton and also features a homecoming show at the O2 Apollo Manchester.

Joel Gion
(The Reverberation Appreciation Society / Committee To Keep Music Evil, San Francisco, USA)
After spending a long and strange career as the legendary “Tambourine Man” for the Brian Jonestown Massacre, tambourinist/percussionist Joel Gion has emerged with his debut LP “Apple Bonkers”, an armload of his own music done his own way.
“With all the BJM members now living so spread out across the world, I found myself increasingly missing the album making process. This feeling of disconnect is what kick started me into exploring my own song writing process and turned out to be a hugely important piece of self discovery. No more time for my beloved laziness. So I made my own music with a with bunch of friends in the studio coming and going and having a great time creating. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by this album. “
As might be expected, there are plenty of classic 1960s sounds, but the sonic pallette spans every decade since, colored with timeless touchstones of Joel's record collection - shoegaze, post-punk, psychedelia, alt-country and mod/beat music, it's all there.
Co-produced by current BJM members Collin Hegna and Rob Campanella, “Apple Bonkers” also features contributions by Jonestown members Daniel Allaire and Matt Hollywood, along with former BJM members Jeffrey Davies and Miranda Lee Richards. Also along for the ride: Pete Holmstrom of The Dandy Warhols, Ryan Van Kriedt of the The Asteroid #4/Dead Skeletons and Jason “Plucky” Anchondo of the Warlocks/ Spindrift.
Much more than getting by with a little help from his friends, “Apple Bonkers” sees Gion leading the trip to a psychedelic land of honest-to-goodness rock and roll.
