Beach Day's Native Echoes out August 19

Beach Day's Native Echoes  out August 19  on Kanine Records Noisey premieres "Don't Call Me On The Phone" videoSummer Tour Dates Announced  "The inclusion of Ronettes-inspired harmonies, a sweltering organ line, and a frenetic punk pacing à la the Black Lips infuses the tune with a truly distinct air of youthful rebelliousness and manic playfulness." - Consequence Of Sound
"ragged riffs with swoon-worthy vocals that would make Joey Ramone weak in the knees." -Spin "We love a fun song about going to the beach. Now there is a whole band about it." - Foam Magazine

Listen: "All My Friends Were Punks" via Consequence of Sound or Youtube
 can be
Beach Day - the name's more about attitude than genre. It's about the ease and breeze of their modern wall of sound. Their tall, bright merge of garage rock, surf pop and girl group sounds is inspired by nostalgia but powered by fresh verve, sitting pretty alongside contemporaries like Cults, TennisLa LuzThose Darlins and Dum Dum Girls. And while their native Florida may be in a state of perma-vacation, Beach Day isn't.
On Native Echoes, they've become greater than the sum of their throwback influences. After a year of touring in anticipation and support for their debut, Trip Trap Attack, Beach Day headed to Detroit - mecca for both garage rock and the girl group sound - and into the studio of Jim Diamond (the Sonicsthe Dirtbombsthe White Stripes). Venturing far north in the dead of winter with nothing but their jean jackets resulted in all studio time and zero sunny distractions. Guided by the experienced hand of Jim Diamond, Beach Day dropped the bits of Northern Soul that appeared on their debut and replaced it with feedback, foot stomps, and an electric 12-string guitar run through an Allen Gyrophonic speaker to make it sound like a synth. And so, Native Echoes emerges packing more modern grit. Just listen to hot-revvers like "All My Friends Were Punks" and "I'm Just Messing Around." With more instrumental sophistication and all-tape recording, the album features more atmosphere and patina to deepen its new octane.
However, Beach Day's signature features remain, including Drake's huge, young Ronnie Spector-ish voice. And though she assures there aren't actually any love songs on the record, Beach Day's romanticism is still, thankfully, in bloom ("BFFs," "Don't Call Me on the Phone"). It's a record about friendships: the rebellious ones, the lost ones, and the ones that betray. It's those friendships that are being romanticized on Native Echoes. And of course there's still their famous Florida terroir as featured prominently in "Gnarly Waves" and "How Do You Sleep at Night," whose ocean sounds were recorded in the middle of the night at Drake's favorite hometown beach: Hollywood Beach. After dusting the Beach Day sound with some Detroit mystique, there's just more under the hood this time. An analog sound with Beach Day's hue? This could be classic.
Beach Day is: Kimmy Drake (vocals, guitar), Skyler Black (drums), with addition of a bassist for the live shows.
Upcoming Beach Day Shows:
08.11 - Houston, TX - Mango's
08.12 - Austin, TX - Hotel Vegas
08.14 - Phoenix, AZ - Crescent Ballroom
08.16 - San Diego, CA - Kensington Club08.17 - Los Angeles - The Echo

July 8th, 2014 - (Burbank, CA.) - Globally revered and highly influential dance-punk duo  Death From Above 1979  have revealed a plethora of details about their eagerly anticipated new album, including the title, cover art, and track-listing.  The Physical World  will be released by Last Gang Records / Warner Bros. The digital pre-order is now available on iTunes and the exclusive album bundles are available from the band  here . The first single, "Trainwreck 1979" is now available for sale and streaming at all participating online retailers.
Produced by D. Sardy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, LCD Soundsystem, Wolfmother, Oasis),  The Physical World  comes a full ten years after the release of the band's universally acclaimed debut album, You're A Woman, I'm A Machine , which made  Jesse F. Keeler (bass, synths, backing vocals) and Sebastien Grainger (vocals and drums), an underground /over ground sensation. DFA 1979 broke up in 2006 while the first album and subsequent remix album continued to sell inexplicably. They decided to reunite in 2011 and began to perform live picking up where they left off without missing a beat. Their rabid cult has only continued to amass just as inexplicably. Jesse and Sebastien sat down with the NME  to talk about the new album release and reuniting. Earlier this spring, DFA 1979 released various clues, tidbits and sonic allusions surrounding a possible new album on  deathfromabove1979.com . This will also be your exclusive portal into the wormhole world into all things DFA 1979 now and in the future.

SLINT Announce August 22 show at The El Rey Theatre

SLINT ANNOUNCE LOS ANGELES SHOW --
AUGUST 22 AT EL REY THEATRE

ADDITIONAL WEST COAST TOUR DATES CONFIRMED
SPIDERLAND (REMASTERED) OUT NOW
Slint are excited to announce that they will be playing Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre on August 22.  The band had previously announced additional West Coast Dates which are listed below.    Slint most recently played a string of dates in Europe that included a set at Primavera which The Quietus labeled "unexpectedly devastating"

Slint West Coast tour:
Aug 22 - El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles, CA USA *tix on sale 7/11
Aug 25 - The Fillmore - San Francisco, CA, USAAug 27 - The Showbox - Seattle, WA, USAAug 28  - Crystal Ballroom - Portland, OR, USAAug 29  - Rickshaw Theatre - Vancouver, BC, Canada
This spring Louisville's SLINT released a limited deluxe box set version ofSpiderland (remastered) on Touch and Go Records.  They followed it in June with a non-box set version, making it available as a single 180 gram LP + DVD (of the documentary Breadcrumb Trail), as a single CD + DVD, and as a digital album.  Spiderland (remastered) received a "10" from Pitchfork Media, labeling it a "Best New Reissue" and an "A" from The AV Club who said the release was "a thoughtful look at a legendary act, and one that's both long overdue and well deserved.". NPR recently streamed the record, stating "it's clear how much it deserves reconsideration as a work of haunting beauty and surprising warmth...the album still stands gloriously on its own as the modest and compact, six-song, 40-minute set it's always been. It's worth discovering and rediscovering, and worth celebrating as more than the sum of its influence." Spiderland (Remastered) Box Set contains Spiderland remastered, 14 previously unreleased demos and outtakes, an 104-page booklet of never-before-seen photos as well as a DVD of the Lance Bangs directed Slint documentary, titled Breadcrumb Trail, as well as exclusive, DVD-only bonus footage. The 90 minute documentary saw its theatrical release this last month.
Watch the trailer for Breadcrumb Trail HEREPitchfork talked to Slint about the reissue earlier this year. Read it HERE.
Slint Spiderland photoSome Accolades For Spiderland over the past 23 Years:TOP 100 ALBUMS OF THE 1990S  -  PITCHFORK 100 BEST ALBUMS  -  NME100 GREATEST ALBUMS 1985-2005  -  SPIN I first heard Slint before they were called that, but the difference between them and their contemporaries was already in concrete. From the outset they made music to suit themselves, not an audience, and their dogged pursuit of the sound of their imagination is still utterly unique. Tendrils of continuity between the doom of heavy metal, the drama of modernist classical music and the rude musk of punk may not be apparent at first glance, but they glow like a web when illuminated by the fire of Slint's muse. Nobody thinks about their music, or music itself, like Slint. Love this fucking band.                                                 -- Steve Albini

Rose Windows: “There is a Light” video via 'The Quietus'

Watch Rose Windows new video for “There Is A Light”

2014 Summer Tour Schedule
July 12th-September 1st

Press Assets

You can now watch Rose Windows “There Is A Light,” the official video for the band’s recently released single of the same name, via The Quietus. Directed by Eleanor Petry, band member Richi Rekow, and Shaun Libman,  the new visual follows its protagonist through a surreal, spiritual and often humourous dream. The Quietus says of the video and song, "It follows last year's beguiling debut album for the label, The Sun Dogs, and continues in the same vein, channelling a cluster of influences into a work of gently psychedelic affirmative folk-pop. The video...traverses fittingly from darkness into light and sees the band…bouncing about with a cast of extras, all looking very jolly (see premiere July 7th).”Rose Windows’ “There Is A Light” b/w “Fix Me Another One” single is now available as a 7” single and digitally via Sub Pop Mega MartiTunes, and Amazon.com. There is also an exclusive Mega Mart limited edition, colored vinyl option available (while supplies last).

“There Is A Light” was written near the end of the band’s sessions for their 2013 LP, The Sun Dogs, and it highlights the band’s talent for creating driving, psych-tinged pop. “Fix Me Another One,” was written under the influence of Curtis Mayfield, who was in heavy rotation while the band toured in support of their aforementioned debut.

Rose Windows’ previously announced 2014 summer U.S. & European tour schedule kicks-off July 12th in Brooklyn, NY at Rough Trade NYC and currently ends on September 1st in Seattle, WA at Bumbershoot. Highlights for the tour include August 1 at the OFF Festival in Katowice, PL and August 8th in Gothenburg, SE for Way Out West.  Please find a complete list of tour dates below. What People Have Said About Rose Windows:"After a year on the road, the band’s already multi-faceted sound has grown and developed. Case in point, “There Is A Light”: on the surface, they’re playing with the same pool of ’60s folk and ’70s psych-rock influences, creating a lush soundscape of mutli-part harmonies, ragtime piano, tribal percussion, and twangy guitars. Yet, there’s something new going on, whether it’s the doubly shiny production value or newfound deftness of their movements. Regardless, Rose Windows have found an even more profound sweet-spot between the realms of the whimsical and the rollicking." -  Consequence of Sound

"This tasty little piece of grunge psychedelia is the first teaser from Rose Windows' forthcoming debut LP, The Sun Dogs... "Native Dreams" is an expansive, futuristic, long-playing howler and the most recent reason why 2013 already sounds better than its predecessor." -  Seattle Weekly

“Powerful, heavy, and majestic” -   The Stranger

"Seattle's Rose Windows make the kind of modern day psychedelia that's rooted in the innovations of the late 1960s but could only have come together in recent times...bands like Jefferson Airplane come to mind, but they also share Prince Rama's forward thinking approach to Eastern melodies, Laurel Halo's drifting atmospheres, and the retro stoner metal of '90s bands like Sleep and Electric Wizard." -  Brooklyn Vegan

"Rose Windows posses a true and immense rock power...solid, compelling songwriting and sounds wonderful; heavy, spacious, guitars flare up amidst the smoke, and when these guys start to rip, there's no stopping them." -  FILTER

"Rose Windows puts its own spin on the music, with instrumental twists and turns that keep you guessing; they don’t sound quite like anybody else." -  Seattle Times
