The album can now be streamed in full at Pitchfork Advance, who describe the duo's sound, saying they "combine elements of garage, shoegaze, and atmospheric pop, creating a sound that suggests Best Coast by way of Swervedriver."  Stream 'Honeyblood' at Pitchfork Advance
NME have also premiered single "(I'd Rather Be) Anywhere But Here" this week, calling it a "song about goodbyes. Not the sad, sorry, tearful kind of so-longs, but the ones you relish and bask in as you bid farewell, having finally mustered the courage to leave behind "a city that's killing you.""

Whirr shares new single + Announces LP due 9/23

WHIRR SHARES "MUMBLE" VIA STEREOGUM
ANNOUNCES TOUR DATES
ANNOUNCES SWAY LP DUE 9/23 VIA GRAVEFACECredit: Ryan McClain STREAM: "Mumble" - https://soundcloud.com/graveface/whirr-mumble
Beautifully loud shoegazers Whirr have announced their second LP, Sway, and are sharing the lead single "Mumble". Never one to rest, band-founder Nick Bassett has spent much of the past year playing bass in Nothing and released an EP as Death of Lovers in conjunction with members of Nothing. Despite being on tour virtually all year, Bassett will get back on the road this fall with Whirr. Check out all of the tour dates below and get ready for the release of Sway on September 23rd via Graveface.

About Whirr:

When Sway begins, you might at first press pause, reaching for your headphone wire or peeking behind your speaker cables to make sure nothing has come undone. The blister of distorted guitar that opens the album comes only from the right channel, howling and hanging there in irascible isolation until it seems that something must be wrong.

But be patient: After a dozen seconds, the rest of Whirr-a five-piece of blanketing rock focus and comforting pop finesse-pours in from the left channel. They meet the guitar in the middle, together racing headlong into a short section that's heavy as metal but pliable enough to be the springboard for the galloping shoegaze beauty that soon arrives.

For the next 36 minutes, you need not worry again about lost connections, split channels or anything else, really. More than any Whirr release to date, Sway creates a definitive sense of immersion, sculpting an environment that breathes you in instantly and breathes you out only when the record snaps into silence.

That bifurcated start is an appropriate image for Whirr in 2014. Last year, the band headlined a tour with the Philadelphia group and fellow admirers of heaviness and harmony, Nothing. Not only did the crews become fast friends, but their respective founders-Whirr's Nick Bassett and Nothing's Dominic Palermo-decided to start a group of their own, Death of Lovers. When the shared tour was finished, Bassett headed to Philadelphia for a month of writing and recording. He's never really left. He calls Philadelphia home now, so Whirr has become a bicoastal band.

In Philadelphia, Bassett worked on Death of Lovers' debut for Deathwish Inc., toured as the bassist for Nothing and steadily composed new material for the next Whirr album, their first full-length for Graveface. Back in Oakland, the rest of Whirr had committed to the project full-time, too, so the West Coast contingent wrote and rehearsed new material without Bassett. Joey Bautista took the lead on two songs, Loren Rivera on three.

Indeed, against most odds, Bassett's move made for a more democratic Whirr. In their salad days, Bassett had written most of the material and built the bulk of the arrangements, too, using the support only to enrich and enliven them. After a slew of splits and singles and EPs, Sway is the second Whirr LP, but it is only the first to be rendered by a fully functional rock band, having shaped the songs slowly and over some distance.

Before the quintet entered Oakland's Atomic Garden to work with longtime producer and collaborator Jack Shirley, they reworked the contributions of all three writers, massaging the material into a cohesive dynamo. Rivera, for instance, rewrote the words for Bassett's material, folding his songs into the album's presiding sense of dusky melancholy. "It's not conceptual, entirely, but it's intended to ebb and flow in a certain way-one song being aggressive, then dropping out and being pretty but devastating," Bassett says. "We tried to create an atmosphere, where you listen and get vibed into one tone. "

That rhythm presides over Sway, tying its distinct parts into a seamless unit. The restless "Heavy" churns somewhere between Godflesh and Gish, its lumbering beat and foreboding guitar buoyed by a melody that feels like a secret hymn for which you've long searched. Gorgeous and sprawling, "Sway" floats through luxuriating guitars and pillowed vocals, offering an impressionistic but intoxicating inversion of Whirr's typical propulsion. Even here, during the record's prettiest moment, Whirr maintains a righteous minimalism, emblematic of members who met one another as skateboarding high-school kids. "The aesthetic of the band is more aimed at mature punk rather than alternative rock," Bassett confirms. "There are these more aggressive punk elements - noisy feedback, a snare roll that just goes into super-punchy, driving songs."

"Clear" brilliantly paints its lyrical quest for lucid communication-"I want words/to understand you," runs one plaintive, surging bit-in music that takes up the same challenge. Whirr pushes past a pastel instrumental haze into a hangdog march, with near-whispered vocals bruised by Devin Nunes' drums and Eddie Saldago's orotund bass line. But as the end approaches, the band builds together, the riffs and the rhythm colliding into one triumphant, redemptive crest.

And that's the victory of Sway, too, an album written by five people on two coasts but executed with the force and splendor of, at last, a fully unified Whirr.

Graveface will release Sway on CD, LP and digitally September 23.

New Weezer Album “Everything Will Be Alright In The End"

Everything Will Be Alright In The End
(September 30th, 2014; Republic Records)

Los Angeles, CA’s Weezer will release their highly anticipated ninth album,  Everything Will Be Alright In The End , on September 30th, 2014 on Republic Records.  Produced by Ric Ocasek, who previously helmed production on the band’s first and third records (“The Blue Album” and “The Green Album”), Everything Will Be Alright In The End is the band’s first collection of new material in four years.

Since forming in 1992, Weezer has released a myriad of celebrated, chart-topping albums, selling over 13 million records worldwide.  Following an intensely prolific couple years at the end of the aughts, the band chose to deliberately dial down the tempo in 2010, a move singer/guitarist Rivers Cuomo says allowed him to write at a slower pace, giving the songs he wanted to use for an album the time to gradually grow into their final forms.  He started almost every song on the piano, eventually transferring them to the guitar before taking them to the band.  When it came time to record the material, Weezer reunited with the man who helped them make some of their most iconic album-length work, Cars frontman Ric Ocasek.  The resulting album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, is a stand-out gem in Weezer’s vast and varied catalogue, a reflection of a much-loved band at their very best.  Organized thematically around three groups of songs, it is an album that utilizes that sound from the band’s earliest days to tell new stories in 2014, creating some of the finest, most heartfelt songs Weezer has ever recorded.

An exclusive, first look at Everything Will Be Alright In The End will appear in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly.  PRESS HERE to read more about the band’s time in the studio, and watch this week’s #weezerwednesday webisode.

More information about Everything Will Be Alright In The End, including details about the album’s first single, will be available soon.  Watch this space for more.

The Acid fuse indie with post-Burial bass music so seamlessly that you forget The XX ever existed.” – NME

“Intimate, spine chilling vocals” - Dazed
The Acid will release their exceptional debut album  Liminal  on July 15th 2014 in the US/Canada via Mute. Infectious Music have released Liminal in UK/Europe this week. StreamLiminal via Pandora Premieres here.

The Acid came together from three separate worlds, joining together through a profound synchronicity.  They are globe trotting, Grammy nominated DJ & Producer Adam Freeland, creator of subversive crossover hit 'We Want Your Soul', spearhead of a scene and label boss of Brighton's Marine Parade Records; Californian Polymath Steve Nalepa, whose time is split as a producer, composer, professor of music technology; and Australian, LA based artist and producer Ry X, whose ‘Berlin EP’ was released in late 2013 to softly bubbling acclaim, and who, with his other alter ego as one half of Howling, created an eponymous club smash and toured heavily through 2013’s festival circuit.

Ry and Adam, who had initially met in Australia several years prior, ran into each other at a mutual friend’s party in LA last year. They had both been on recent journeys of personal growth and a deeper exploration into art, which led to them collaborating together at Ry’s property in Topanga Canyon.  As luck would have it, Freeland had a session booked with his friend Nalepa at his home studio the very next day, where they birthed the track “Animal” within 24 hours of this kizmetic collaboration.  The full-length record was written in one more intensive session at Nalepa’s home studio space.

Quite the feat, but they all maintain this project has in many ways been remarkably effortless. As Nalepa reveals, “in the first couple of songs, we came up with our palette of sound. We had that moment where you realise, ‘we could do a whole body of work like this’.” Freeland continues, “Everything about this process has been very synchronistic. From making music, to getting a record deal: it’s just flowed. The Acid birthed itself.” He goes on, referencing Malcolm Gladwell’sThe Outliers, “Things come out of people being in the right place at the right time, but those people have to have done their ten thousand hours’ work on their craft and then hit that moment in time.” Buy Liminal Here
