"If you only own the original studio release of John Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme,' then the new three-disk release "A Love Supreme:The Complete Masters" of the classic album by Coltrane's classicquartet will be a revelatory experience." - The New Yorker
Listen to Track Premiers at Pitchfork and Wall Street Journal
On December 9th, 1964, John Coltrane and his classic quartet (Elvin Jones, Jimmy Garrisonand McCoy Tyner) went into the legendary Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey and recorded A Love Supreme--the four-part suite that has influenced musicians and reached generations of fans far beyond the jazz world. Far less known is the fact that Coltrane, his classic quartet and two additional musicians--the legendary saxophonist Archie Shepp and second bassist, Dr. Art Davis--returned to the studio the next day to cut the opening part of the suite again. Until now, the complete picture of what happened on those two days, including all takes, overdubs, and even studio chatter, has been unavailable.
That will change on November 20th when Verve Music Group proudly releases A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters , to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of this seminal recording. It will include this alternate version, taken from reels from the personal collection of John Coltrane and originally recorded in incredible sonic detail by Rudy Van Gelder, along with revised notes and detailed information on these amazing lost sessions. This release will kick off a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Verve label, which will include myriad catalog releases, digital exclusives and box sets through the end of 2016. (Verve includes the catalogs of legendary imprints like Impulse!, Decca, MGM, Blue Thumb and many more.)
With the availability of long-lost session reels, A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters brings together all existing recordings and written outlines for the first time to paint the most comprehensive and accurate picture of the A Love Supreme story. It reveals how Coltrane's masterpiece came together, from its initial conception as a nine-piece performance--it turns out the original plan was for a nine-piece band, including three Latin percussionists--to how it changed and developed in the studio. While the 2002 edition of A Love Supreme did include some of the music recorded at the second session, The Complete Masters is the first to feature all six takes of "Acknowledgement," the opening section of the suite, in their entirety, providing a deeper understanding and appreciation of how Coltrane would allow music to mature in the studio. The box also presents takes one and two of the track "Acknowledgement" from the sextet sessions in stereo for the first time.
A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters will be available in two formats: a 2-CD set, including the original best-selling album, along with unreleased mono "reference" versions of two tracks, owned by Coltrane himself, and seven unreleased performances from the two sessions. A 32-page booklet features an extensive essay by Ashley Kahn, noted producer, instructor and author of A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album, rare photographs from the sessions and all of Coltrane's surviving musical sketches and written elements for the groundbreaking, four-part suite, including the words that would become the poem, "A Love Supreme."
A 3-CD "Super Deluxe Edition" of A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters adds what is currently the only documented live recording of the album, a spirited, impromptu performance from the Festival Mondial du Jazz Antibes in July 1965, which had been previously available on a 2002 edition of the album. This 3-CD set is presented in a larger format that includes additional information about the live material and a personal introduction by Carlos Santana.

HANNES NORRVIDE OF LUST FOR YOUTH ANNOUNCES SOLO ALBUM
NORIN - BAKOM PLANTERINGEN

Bakom Planteringen is the debut of Hannes Norrvide’s new solo moniker Norin. Best known as the frontman for the highly acclaimed synth trio Lust For Youth, Norrvide forges another new path with this project.
Norin is far removed from the refined rave anthems of Lust For Youth, yet still one can sense thatBakom Planteringen takes place under searching club lights; or perhaps more accurately, in the weightless thought of being under club lights.
While the five tracks on Norin's debut utilize a techno sound pallet, the nauseating arpeggios and obscure, tape-treated voices are not likely to fill dance floors. There is a desperation in the music not unlike the desperation one feels when you start to hear your own heartbeat in your ears after too many hours in strobe lights.
Despite the motorik propulsion across much of Bakom Planteringen, it mostly registers as a kind of slow motion anxiety in full resolution. This is the sound of OD'ing in the chill out room.

ALBUM HOW DOES IT FEEL OUT NOW ON COLUMBIA RECORDS
Following the release of their explosive new album, How Does It Feel , New York- and LA-based duo MS MR (Lizzy Plapinger and Max Hershenow) release Criminals Remixes with reworks from Everything Everything HERE and Maize HERE . The remixes are available via iTunes HERE and Spotify HERE.
Earlier this month they unveiled their brand new video for the single “Criminals”which was directed by Charlotte Rutherford. The unashamedly lip-smack, glam video for the energetic, pop anthem “Criminals” is available to watch HERE.
MS MR on "Criminals" video: "This video is a reflection on the internal conflict we’ve been facing over the past few months as our indie selves and their pop counterparts fight for creative control of MS MR. We find ourselves in an odd place as a band, having made the personal choice to explore where we might fit in in the shiny and seductive pop realm (especially given our ambitious goals), while truthfully still being two art kids locked away in our DIY studio, thriving off our own musical naiveté and thirst to push artistic boundaries. Are we on the right path? Have we come too far? Do we want a way out?"
When it came to finding a director who could play on these contradictory feelings, we turned to the ultimate pop visionary, Charlotte Rutherford. She created a dark jewel-toned fantasyland that captures our unsettledness in all its forms: frustration and inspiration, confusion and excitement."
Having spent the last two month touring North America, MS MR are currently on the European leg of their tour. Throughout the tour, MS MR will be donating a portion of every ticket sold to an inspiring organization, Third Wave Fund, a national fund that supports and strengthens youth-led gender justice activism. See below for full itinerary.

Smoke Fairies: Holliday-themed album Wild Winter out now on Full Time Hobby
SMOKE FAIRIESRELEASE SEASONALLY-THEMED ALBUM
WILD WINTER OUT NOW ON
FULL TIME HOBBYSTREAM TITLE TRACK
“Smoke Fairies appear to have tapped into this mid-Winter noir. It’s an intriguing return, one which allies their soft, folk-hued vocals to some rather distorted effects.”—Clash Music “Smoke Fairies rely on intertwining…their two voices move in close harmonies,
with timbres blending almost like sisters.”—New York Times
Smoke Fairies release their holiday-themed collection of 10 songs entitled Wild Winter today on Full Time Hobby . Last year, the LP sold out entirely when it was released in limited edition run and sold exclusively Rough Trade Record Store in the U.K as the December Album of the Month. Listen to the title track HERE. In the very hot summer of 2014, Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies of Smoke Fairies holed themselves up in the house that they share with the curtains drawn and started writing a collection of songs focusing on wintertime, Christmas, blizzards, isolation and presents. The process took the duo on a journey through Christmas past, present and future, sometimes touching on family tradition and the role religion plays in their yearly celebrations and even imagined themselves as the three kings. They then took their band into a recording studio in Kent, stayed in a local youth hostel and for a week and set about recording most of the tracks live. With the help of producerKristofer Harris they finished Wild Winter and the autumn had not even set in! When asked why they chose to focus on a seasonally-themed record, the band explained, “We have a love/hate relationship with winter and the Christmas holiday. When it was suggested Smoke Fairies make a Christmas album the last thing we wanted to do was make a classic, jolly, celebratory album that can only be played once a year. Sometimes winter provides us with a sense of togetherness and love and sometimes it leaves us feeling alienated, cold and playing a glockenspiel alone in a darkened room. It’s part of the year that will always be bittersweet and wild. This was the inspiration behind the record.” The duo said for the song “Bad Good” they “cast our minds back to out childhood selves in the ‘80s” and went on to say “that we nearly drove ourselves to the brink of insanity” trying to bring order to a cover of Captain Beefheart’s “Steal Softly Thru Snow.”
In the six years together since entering a recording studio for the first time, Smoke Fairies have self-released several singles and were first introduced to American audiences with their 7” Gastown/River Song via Third Man Records, which Jack White produced and play drums on. The band has toured the world with the likes of Brian Ferry, Richard Hawley and Laura Marling. Time Out New York noted they were one of the “Top 5 Must See Bands” at the 2010 CMJ Festival while their 2011 album Through Low Light and Trees was named one of American Songwriter’s Top 50 albums of 2011. Wild Winter follows the bands’ 2012 release Blood Speaks of which Pitchfork said that Blamire and Davies “don’t trade vocal duties so much as appear to sing from the same body, their voices nearly indistinguishable, shifting between smoky moans and toe-curling trills” and their eponymously titled album was released in 2014 of which For Folks Sake said “Smoke Fairies are attempting to creatively push themselves into and beyond the ether.”

AUTOLUX UNVEIL NEW SONG “SOFT SCENE”
AUTOLUX UNVEIL NEW SONG “SOFT SCENE”
FIRST SINGLE FROM FORTHCOMING STUDIO LP,
PRODUCED BY BOOTS
Autolux has released a new track, “Soft Scene,” the first taste of new music from the enigmatic Los Angeles-based trio of Carla Azar, Greg Edwards, and Eugene Goreshter. “Soft Scene” maintains the band’s commitment to experimentation—fearlessly transforming pop songs into pure sonic explorations. The track—driven by stuttered beats and played with damaged percussive sound—was created by using monolithic intertwining bass parts and deconstructed guitars. Listen to “Soft Scene” here: http://smarturl.it/SoftSceneAudio.
“Soft Scene” will be featured on the band’s forthcoming third album, produced by BOOTS, and set to be released in Spring of 2016 via Danger Mouse’s eclectic new label, 30th Century Records. Further details about the album will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Autolux’s previous releases—2004’s debut Future Perfect and 2010’s Transit Transit —were released to widespread acclaim, captivating fans and critics alike with their unique sonic aesthetic. Creating dark textures—built around raw, inimitable beats—their music always seems to convey undertones of sensuality, no matter how strange or mangled the surface may be. Autolux’s allure lies in their ability to create a hauntingly beautiful world that is experimental yet still familiar.

This is something earlier, slower, not a “new direction,” but just a natural branch off the same tree.
