Fear of Men release "Island" video, new album 'Fall Forever' out 6/3 via Kanine Records

FEAR OF MEN RELEASE "ISLAND" VIDEO
NEW ALBUM, FALL FOREVER  OUT 6/3 VIA KANINE RECORDS

WATCH THE "ISLAND" VIDEO(CLEARED TO POST & SHARE)
Brighton, UK's Fear of Men have released a video for "Island" via The FADER today.  Video director Eleanor Hardwick says the video "explores the subconscious state between the death of a past self being reborn into a stronger self, and the quest to strip oneself back to its core elements," while singer Jessica Weiss says the song is about "independence and empowerment, and how problematic this can be when you're still tied to the expectations of others."
"Island" is the first single from Fear of Men's upcoming album, Fall Forever, out June 3rd via Kanine Records. The track received praise from Pitchfork, NPR, StereogumSpin, Gorilla vs BearPaste Magazine and The FADER amongst others.
UK TOUR DATES:4/4 Birmingham, UK @ The Hare And Hounds4/5 Glasgow, UK @ The Hug and Pint 4/6 Manchester, UK @ Aatma4/7 Bristol, UK @ Start The Bus 4/8 London, UK @ The Dalston Victoria4/10 Brighton, UK @ The Prince Albert4/11 Guildford, UK @ The Boileroom4/23 Portsmouth, UK @ The Wedgewood Rooms (Dials Festival)
ABOUT FEAR OF MEN:2016 sees the return of Brighton's Fear of Men with Fall Forever: the band's second full-length album, and the follow-up to their acclaimed 2014 debut, Loom. Fall Forever marks a bold departure for the three-piece - comprised of Jessica Weiss, Daniel Falvey and Michael Miles - an album that builds upon the melodicism and immediacy of Loom but takes it in a stark new direction, capturing the band pushing the limits of their instruments to adopt new and alien forms.
After extensively touring in support of Loom, the band decamped in the early months of 2015 to an outbuilding of a disused abattoir in rural Kent, England, to begin work on new material. A two-hour bus ride from their native Brighton - and a blackhole for cell signal - it served as a fitting environment for a band determined to strip their sound back to the bone and rebuild it to make an album that would, on their live return, "make the stage shake."
The resultant record sees the trio twisting together sounds and influences from a variety of genres to create their own vision of what constitutes dark and modern pop. Working with producer Tom Morris to gain clarity and presence, they focused on core sounds instead of layers, while still incorporating textures and details that can be discovered upon repeat listens.
Weiss went into the process of writing Fall Forever with a desire to develop her own voice, rather than hiding behind metaphors and oblique references. The result, she says, is a "very personal and genuine record exploring where my life is at the moment," covering a time that left her "questioning feelings of belonging and structures that commonly offer support and understanding." A vocalist who has proved herself adept at conveying kaleidoscopes of emotions in just a few lines, Weiss juxtaposes feelings of independence and self-determination with rumination on reliance and intimacy. Fittingly, she calls Fall Forever a "love album," but one that explores "emotional extremes of closeness and distance, love and violence."
Equally, these contrasts are well reflected in the sonic palette of the album: cold electronics meet lush, breathing textures; frenetic post-punk drums shudder against undulating guitars that recall the fluidity of shoegaze while stripping it of that genre's crutch of thick reverb, creating a more forceful and contemporary sound. Intent on looking forward, the band utilized modern effects pedals and technology to manipulate their traditional instruments into unique forms. Such an approach can be heard on 'Until You', where frozen guitar chords warp and twist to introduce the song before erupting into a distorted wall-of-sound chorus that hits with the punch of synthesizers but bristles with a human rawness that only guitars can bring.
It's within these dichotomies that Fall Forever's greatest beauties often lie. The immediacy conjured by the trio across the album's ten tracks can at once be seen as intimate or confrontational, echoing the "emotional extremes" examined by Weiss. In twisting together sounds and influences from a plethora of genres, Fear of Men have given life to a fresh vision; a dark and modern pop record that defies easy categorization, and marks their most immersive work to date.

The tour is in support of their latest album WE CAN DO ANYTHING, released March 4 ([PIAS]). The band is also excited to announce the release of their limited edition Record Store Day 7". The Double-A sided 7" includes "Memory" from their latest album and a previously unreleased track "You Move Me." The 7" will be available on April 16. The band's upcoming world tour gets underway on April 30 at Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, TN and then travels throughout the West Coast, Midwest, and East Coast through May and June. As if that weren't enough, Violent Femmes has also been announced among the star-studded line-up for Radio 104.5's 9th Birthday Show at Camden, NJ's BB&T Pavilion, slated for June 17. Additional US dates and festival dates will be announced soon and a complete list of tour dates is below. For updates and ticket information, please visit www.vfemmes.com/tour. Earlier this month, Violent Femmes premiered the video for the first single, "Memory," from their new album via Record Store Day. The clip was created and animated by Harley Hefford, an Australian video director and fan of Violent Femmes who created last year's "Good For/At Nothing" music video for the band off their Record Store Day EP.  Hefford used a collage-style animation to create a fictional narrative where a giraffe (inspired by the album's artwork) reminisces with founding band members Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie who share made-up memories from their past.
WATCH THE VIDEO FOR MEMORY HERE
WE CAN DO ANYTHING is available now at all leading online music retailers. In addition, a number of special bundles are on sale at the official Violent Femmes store, with extras including an exclusive screen print poster, limited edition gold vinyl, t-shirts, and much more. DIGITALCDVINYL To kick off the release of WE CAN DO ANYTHING, Violent Femmes made their first network TV live appearance in 16 years, performing "Memory" on CBS' Late Show with Stephen Colbert. They also performed their legendary song, "Blister in the Sun," with Colbert on vocals. The video was seen everywhere and even became the #1 trending topic on Facebook the day it was released. "Memory" is shaping up as another Violent Femmes favorite, charting on the back of widespread airplay on college radio and multi-format alternative outlets nationwide. "Memory" premiered last month exclusively via NPR Music, noting the track "feels like a classic...'Memory' has the playful quirkiness, infectious beats and jittery observations of the band's earliest work, from the 1980s. But teen angst is replaced with middle-aged irritation." VIOLENT FEMMES ON TOUR 2016APRIL30 - Memphis, TN - Beale Street Music Festival

White Lung Unveil "Kiss Me When I Bleed" and Announce U.S. Tour

WHITE LUNG RELEASE NEW SINGLE "KISS ME WHEN I BLEED" OFF OF FORTHCOMING ALBUM  PARADISE -  OUT MAY 6TH ON DOMINO
US & CANADA TOUR ANNOUNCEDPhoto: Rick Rodney
LISTEN / SHARE "KISS ME WHEN I BLEED" HERE
Fresh off of a victorious SXSW, White Lung release another stellar track off their upcoming fourth studio album  Paradise , due out May 6, 2016 on Domino. Front woman Mish Barber-Way explains, "'Kiss Me When I Bleed' is about pride. That kind of steadfast, I-don't-give-a-fuck-I'm-in-love pride in that we all wish we had for someone. This song is my fairytale. Riches to rags and happily ever after because nothing else in this world really matters except love." Synthesizers? Nope. That's Kenny William's guitar.  He has reworked and re-pitched his parts resulting in what Annie Clark (St. Vincent) compares to evil mosquitos - a bit off and unsettling.
This second cut, follows up the release 'Hungry', which received 'Best New Track' from Pitchfork, who said "propelled by ringing guitars and Way's piercing vocals, the track is a tightly-wound, catchy-as-fuck invective played at a polished, breakneck velocity." Also, noting the band is "ostensibly teetering on the edge of a major breakthrough."
White Lung will tour extensively throughout the US and Canada summer. The band will kick the tour off on release day in Toronto, followed by a Record Release show at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn, NY. Other highlights include an appearance at the inaugural Panorama Festival, Montreal's Osheaga Festival and Levitation in Vancouver.
For the making of Paradise, vocalist Mish Barber-Way, guitarist Kenneth William and drummer Anne-Marie Vassiliou reconnected in Los Angeles to work with producer Lars Stalfors (HEALTH, Cold War Kids, Alice Glass). In October of 2015, White Lung spent a month in the studio, working closely with Stalfors to challenge what could be done with their songs. Bringing all the energy, unique guitar work and lyrical prowess the band are known for to the studio, White Lung curated their songs with a new pop sensibility, focusing in on making a record for the present - "I wanted a record that sounded like it was made in 2016", said William. Mixed by Stalfors and later mastered by Joe LaPorta, Paradise is their smartest, brightest songwriting yet.

Mish Barber-Way and Kenneth William sat down with Annie Clark a.k.a St. Vincent to discuss the making of the album and their creative process. The entire conversation can be read here.
Paradise  is available to pre-order now on limited edition deluxe colored vinyl, limited edition tri-glitter cassette, CD, and digital download.

Michael Kiwanuka Share Album Details; Single

Michael Kiwanuka To Release New Album Love & Hate On May 27;Shares Video for First Single, 'Black Man In A White World' Michael Kiwanuka is excited to share the video for 'Black Man In A White World,' the first single off his forthcoming second album, Love & Hate, on Interscope Records.   The provocative music video was directed by acclaimed Japanese director Hiro Murai (Flying Lotus/Earl Sweatshirt). Watch the video to Black Man In A White World here Kiwanuka's second album Love & Hate will be available on May 27th. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and London produced by Grammy Award winner Brian Joseph Burton AKA Dangermouse and young up and coming producer Inflo. Love & Hate is a fascinatingly assured and resonant body of work following Kiwanuka's acclaimed 2012 debut LP, Home Again. Where that album invited comparisons to the likes of Bill Withers and Otis Redding, Michael's new album struts to a much more psychedelic, freeform beat.  The peerless ten-minute opus "Cold Little Heart" evokes the haze of Pink Floyd in its unhurried slow-burn, while "Falling" is a soaring gospel number for the 21st century.  There are standout tunes throughout, but Love & Hate is an album that genuinely deserves to be listened to as one, littered as it is with 'headphones moments' that require real attention to the light and shade of its creation. Of the forthcoming album, Kiwanuka states "I've always wanted to make an album that felt and sounded like this one. Working with guys as good as Danger Mouse and Inflo really helped me find what I was looking for. I hope this is just the start of more music to come."  The incredible synergy between the two is almost palpable, with Dangermouse confessing "I'd been wanting to work with Michael for a while and once we did a song, we just felt like we should keep going. I knew he had a great voice, but his guitar playing on this album was very important."  Kiwanuka ties it all together asserting that "Inflo was the very important last piece that really kept it all going. We really did feel like we were making an important album."
Honest, unabashed, and ambitious, this new record is Kiwanuka emerging from the emotional cocoon of his first album, ready to secure his position as one of the most exciting and renowned talents or our time. Pre-order Love & Hate here Michael Kiwanuka Live:Sunday, April 3rd @ Rough Trade, New York, NY SOLD OUTMonday, April 4th @ Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY SOLD OUTWednesday, April 6th @ The Roxy Theater, Los Angeles, CA SOLD OUTSaturday, April 9th @ Double Door, Chicago, IL SOLD OUT www.michaelkiwanuka.com

MY RAMONES by DANNY FIELDS // Rare and previously unpublished photos of The Ramones

MYRAMONES
RARE AND PREVIOUSLY UNPUBLISHED PHOTOS OF THE RAMONES BY DANNY FIELDS
[image error]
‘My RAMONES - Danny Fields’ is a unique document of the band’s early career that will be published on 27th April 2016 as a hardback limited edition.
The photobook collects rare and never before-seen photographs of the Ramones compiled in collaboration with Danny, the band’s first manager. Chosen from his extensive personal archive, all the images of the four founding members of the Ramones were taken between 1975 – 1977 when Fields co-managed them with Linda Stein and had unique access to the band. The photos are accompanied with commentary and captions by Fields adding new perspective and insight to one of the best-known bands in recent music history.
View images from the book here
Fields first saw the Ramones play at CBGBs in New York; after a 17 minute set, he met with the four founding members and told them that he wanted to be their manager. “I had to bribe them with $3000 which they said they needed for a new set of drums. I went to Florida, asked my mother to lend me the money, came back with her cheque, and got the job. I photographed the band on tour, backstage, in the studio, walking around, meeting fans, seeing the sights and just checking things out” says Fields.
Fields and his partner Linda Stein brought the band to London in July 1976, where their appearances at The Roundhouse and Dingwall’s had an indelible influence on the emerging punk scene in the UK.
