M83 Shares "Go!" - Album Out Friday

M83

REVEALS ANOTHER NEW TRACK

“GO!”

FROM JUNK, OUT APRIL 8 ON MUTEPhoto by Andrew ArthurM83, aka Anthony Gonzalez, shares another new track from his forthcoming full-length album, JUNK, out this Friday, April 8, on Mute.   “Go!” – an exultant synth pop charmer - features lead vocals from French chanteuse Mai Lan, and a guitar solo by virtuoso Steve Vai.  Gonzalez describes the collaboration with Vai: “We asked for the craziest space solo possible, which wasn't hard for him. He sent us three different takes, and we blended two to make the ultimate Steve Vai solo. It was amazing to work with him.”

Listen to “Go!” HERE.

As the release date for  JUNK  fast approaches, fans can expect the unexpected with this album.  The album oozes with a wide variety of sounds and influences.  Gonzalez’s amour for all things ‘80s is well known, and that aesthetic still recurs throughout  JUNK . But with this album, Gonzalez also finds himself looking to earlier decades –  ‘60s film soundtracks, groovy ‘70s radio hits – for fresh, timeless inspiration, creating the perfect soundtrack for the summer of 2016.  “Everyone’s trying to be modern and fit into radio formats, but I find that boring,” Gonzalez says. “Those songs were moving and sentimental. They had something to say.”

M83 has announced worldwide tour dates including special performances at the renowned Coachella festival in Indio, CA, The Governors Ball in NYC, and Glastonbury in the UK. Tickets are available now via ilovem83.com.  Full tour dates below.

Kikagaku Moyo Shares "Silver Owl" via Clash

New Album House In The Tall Grass Out 5/13 On Guruguru Brain
Photo Cred: Kentaro
LISTEN & SHARE: Kikagaku Moyo - "Silver Owl"
"The sighing vocals allow each word to tumble over the next, while the nimble sitar-sounds in the background lend a lysergic air." - Clash Following their split 7” with Moon Duo late last year, Tokyo’s  Kikagaku Moyo  have announced details of their forthcoming new album  House In The Tall Grass  for release on May 13th via Guruguru Brain. Kikagaku Moyo have premiered their track "Silver Owl" via Clash. You can listen here.

“The inspiration for this song came from my experience in dreams-- like Lucid dreams where I can create another me, and be totally free from everything and flying around the sky.
I think most people can relate the feeling where you are half asleep and half awake. Your brain is really heavy, and feel like something is pulling back your head, but your eyes stay the same position.  We talked about our favorite dreams in the studio and tried to express each type that we have experienced. The last part of the song is our expression of a totally free and lucid dream.”

Their music incorporates elements of classical Indian music, Krautrock, Traditional Folk, and 70s Rock. Kikagaku Moyo call their sound psychedelic because it encompasses a broad spectrum of influence, but most importantly their music is about freedom of the mind and body and building a bridge between the supernatural and the present; improvisation is a key element to their sound.

The band released their first self-titled album in 2013 on Cosmic Eye Records / Sound Effect Records before touring Australia with the native Aussie band Dreamtime. By April 2014 Kikagaku Moyo had released  Mammatus Clouds  on cassette via Sky Lantern Records and recorded their second LP  Forest of Lost Children  which was released in May 2014 by Beyond Beyond is Beyond records. The band toured the U.S. at the same time sharing bills with Moon DuoEternal TapestryWhite MannaLife Coach, and the Myrrors. They played at Austin Psych Fest and L.A. Psych Fest to high acclaim.

Their Self-titled record and  Mammatus Clouds  were later re-released on 12” vinyl by Captcha records in the U.S. and Cardinal Fuzz Records in the UK. The band toured the UK in the fall of 2014 to support these releases which ended up selling out in a matter of days. In 2015 Kikagaku Moyo released several split 7” records, the first with Kinski on God Unknown Records and a self-released split with Moon Duo. This was followed by a 35 day tour across Europe with sold out dates in Berlin, London, Paris, Porto, Lisbon, Barcelona and Geneva. They appeared at Eindhoven Psych Lab and Duna Jam - the band has earned their reputation as fierce and captivating performers.

Third Man Records announces Vault Pkg #28 feat. acoustic Jack White performances

THIRD MAN RECORDS ANNOUNCES VAULT PACKAGE #28 FEATURING ACOUSTIC JACK WHITE PERFORMANCES FROM 2015

About 1 year ago, Jack White embarked on an unusual, acoustic tour. Hitting the only five states in the US in which he had yet to perform - the wild environs of North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho and Alaska - White and his acoustic ensemble of Dominic DavisFats Kaplinand Lillie Mae Rische delivered jaw-dropping performances to the previously Jack White deprived territories. Each show was announced only hours before curtains lifted and tickets were only available in the venue box office, 1 per person, for $3. "No tradesies." Rampant online speculation, guesstimation and divining ensued, and those who were lucky and/or cunning enough to secure a seat were admired by all. The shows had several standards and rules set ahead of time by white:  no amplifiers, only ribbon microphones used, and no monitors on stage.   The final performance of that tour was streamed live on TIDAL, but, as you know, we never pass up an opportunity to immortalize great music (it's a complex, really), so, we ran tape and film for the entirety of the tour, and now YOU will reap the benefits of our obsession. Vault Package #28 is a celebration of these unprecedented performances and the end of the era that they signified. Live in Idaho showcases the performance at the Egyptian Theater in Boise and contains a career-spanning set with standards from the White Stripes, Raconteurs and Jack White solo catalog, reinterpreted for performance with no amplifiers. The performance was captured exclusively by ribbon microphones and is dripping with atmosphere. Including a cover of Howlin' Wolf's "I Asked For Water (She Gave Me Gasoline)" and ending with a rousing rendition of Leadbelly's "Goodnight Irene," what exists here is pure magic. This double LP set will be pressed on Icy Idaho Blue vinyl.

Jack's performance from the Wendy Williamson Auditorium in Anchorage, Alaska is a gem in its own right. With the ethereal setting adding to the mystique of the circumstance, the show was one of the most thrilling in White's twenty-plus-year career, and those who were there to enjoy it (who had waited all day in the snow), bore witness to a once-in-a-lifetime performance. We present that memorable show here, in its entirety, on DVD, with expertly engineered sound and editing by TMR's in-house film guru Brad Holland. Live in Anchorage is truly spectacular. From the Third Man Books, we present Pictures From Unknown Statesan intimate collection of shots from photographer, close Third Man ally (and occasional clothing designer) David James Swanson. This pictorial travelogue of the tour and the places and people it encountered on its route is a packed-to-the-brim 52 pages of sheer wonder. Also borrowed from Swanson's stunning photo archives and are two elegant Risograph prints, both suitable for framing and evocative of the gilded settings of each one of these performances. These items fits together perfectly in a soft-touch, silk-screened box that only further cements the exquisite collection as an item no music fan can deny. It may just be our best Vault package yet. The Joy Formidable Add Tour Dates In Support Of Hitch, Out Now

THE JOY FORMIDABLE ADD NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES IN SUPPORT OF RECENT RELEASE, HITCH, OUT NOW Welsh trio The Joy Formidable are touring in support of their recently released album Hitch, outvia their own record label C'Mon Lets Drift in partnership with Caroline (US), Orchard/ Membran (Europe) and MapleMusic (Canada.)  The fantastic live band went to work on their third studio album with one mission: to make sure their unique live performance and energy was captured on record.  "We realized we needed to build a space and do it ourselves, go back to being three people in a room again" said Ritzy Bryan regarding the band's decision to self-produce the new album. Following suit with their decision to take the reigns on this album, The Joy Formidable chose to "work with people who feel as strong as we do about the music, who listen to albums, love the art and let that take control."  One such early supporter was the legendary Alan Moulder (The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, etc;) who mixed the album. The band states "on this album, we've been lucky enough to feel that same enthusiasm from everyone involved." The band are excited to share that they've added several North American summer dates, with full dates listed below.  Regarding a recent performance: "...witnessing the return of the North Wales trio was as close to rock 'n' roll nirvana as you are likely to get." In addition to their powerful live show, the band will be offering fans a chance to attend a meet and greet and intimate, acoustic performance before doors. LIVE DATES:4/5/2016 Minneapolis, MN @ First Avenue4/6/2016 Chicago, IL @ Double Door4/7/2016 Iowa City, IA @ Mission Creek Festival4/8/2016 Nashville, TN @ Mercy Lounge4/10/2016 Pittsburgh, PA @ Mr Small's Theater4/12/2016 Boston, MA @ Paradise Rock Club4/13/2016 Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club4/14/2016 New York, NY @ Irving Plaza4/15/2016 Philadelphia, PA @ Underground Arts5/29/2016 Reno, NV           @ Cargo @ The Whitney6/4/2016 Portsmouth, NH @ 3S Artspace6/6/2016 Cleveland, OH @            The Grog Shop6/7/2016 Indianapolis, IN @ Deluxe @ Old National6/8/2016 Louisville, KY @ Mercury Ballroom6/9/2016 Grand Rapids, MI @ Founder's Ballroom6/10/2016 Cincinnati, OH @ Fountain Square6/11/2016 St. Louis, MO @ The Ready Room6/14/2016 Ferndale, MI @ The Magic Bag6/15/2016 Toronto, ON @ The Mod Club / NXNE6/17/2016 Quebec City, QC           @ Le Cercle6/18/2016 Montreal, QC @ Theatre Fairmount6/19/2016 Ottawa, ON @ Ritual7/19/2016 Phoenix, AZ @ Crescent Ballroom7/20/2016 San Diego, CA @ The Irenic7/21/2016 Fresno, CA @ Strummer's7/22/2016 Sacramento, CA            @ Harlow's7/26/2016 Salt Lake City, UT @ Urban Lounge7/27/2016 Denver, CO @ Bluebird Theater7/28/2016 Des Moines, IA @ Wooly's www.thejoyformidable.com

My Morning Jacket Announce 'It Still Moves' Reissue with Bonus Material Out May 27

My Morning Jacket To Re-Issue It Still Moves
(Deluxe Reissue)  On May 27 Via ATO Records

Includes 13 Previously Unreleased B-Sides and Demos

Pre-Order  Offers Instant Download of
Golden ” + “ Mahgeetah ” Remixed & Remastered

On May 27, 2016, My Morning Jacket will re-issue 2003’s  It Still Moves (ATO)  remixed and remastered as a special deluxe package with new artwork and exclusive photos. It will include frontman Jim James’ ten original demos plus three unheard tracks from the original sessions on 4 x LP 180 gram vinyl and a 2 CD set. With the help of the band’s longtime friend Kevin Ratterman behind the mixing desk, James revisited and tweaked all the old material. Remastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering, this new version still has that shimmering grandeur that lent it such a singular identity, but there is an increased strength and clarity to it now.

“Everybody can relate to something they've done in their life where you didn't know it at the time, but you were rushed through finishing it,” James said. He cites the band's aggressive touring schedule as a reason behind them leaving the album somehow unfinished. When ATO approached him about the idea of reissuing It Still Moves as a part of the label's fifteenth anniversary, he took the opportunity to dig back in and remix the album.

In addition to pillars of My Morning Jacket’s catalog such as “One Big Holiday” and “Golden”, the re-issue is also accompanied by James' original acoustic demoes of It Still Moves. This is still the way James writes, getting down the core snapshot of an idea before bringing it to the band and reworking it with their titanic sound. “I feel lucky to have had so many songs that feel like there are chances to go in other directions,” James said. This is the stuff that is just James in his bedroom, working the idea out. “It definitely feels more lonely,” he says. “Maybe more haunting.”

It would've been hard to tell back when My Morning Jacket released It Still Moves, but the then-young band's third album would serve as a conclusion to one part of their story. It Still Moves both expanded their early style outward as far is it could go, while also grounding it.

After It Still Moves, My Morning Jacket reconfigured themselves, with James and the unstoppable rhythm section of bassist Tom Blankenship and drummer Patrick Hallahan now joined by keyboardist Bo Koster and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Carl Broemel. They had perfected a version of themselves here, and the only way forward was to dream it up again in some new form.

Everything would shift for My Morning Jacket after It Still Moves. As the conclusion to their initial trilogy of albums, it remains one of their most pivotal releases.

New Single from Grandmaster's Furious Five ft Mele Mel & Scorpio

Grandmaster's Furious 5 ft Mele Mel & Scorpio
Some Kind of Sorry
27 May 2016The first single to come from The Furious Five's Mele Mel and Scorpio in nearly three decades, 'Some Kind of Sorry'.

Grandmaster's Furious 5
is made up of two pioneers of the original South Bronx Rap scene and creators of Hip Hop subculture; Mele Mel and Scorpio.

Fathers of today's multi-billon dollar Rap industry, Mele Mel and Scorpio are to Hip Hop what Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are to Rock and Roll. Having toured the world as Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 with the likes of U2, The Police, The Clash, Prince and Duran Duran as well as many Hip Hop greats, their recordings are amongst the most sampled in the history of Rap music. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 became a household name on the strength of records like 'Freedom', 'The Message', 'White Lines', 'Superrappin', 'Beat Street', 'New York, New York', 'Survival' and 'Scorpio'. In the UK, the group charted in the top ten with 'White Lines', 'Beat Street' and 'Step Off'.
'The Message' was the first Rap song to contain a social commentary and is in the archives of the Library of Congress for its social relevance within that time period. The song is considered one of the twenty-five most important of the last fifty years, proven by the fact that in 2013 'The Message' was the first Hip Hop record inducted into the Grammy's Hall of Fame.

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12th 2007, the first and only Rap group to have been given this honour. The group have also been honored on the Bronx Walk of Fame, with a street named after them. Quincy Jones used The Furious Five's vocal talents for two Grammy award winning albums, 1995's 'Qs Jook Joint', which was Jones' first studio album in six years and 1989's 'Back on the Block'. The Furious Five also lent their voices to the legendary Chaka Khan for her Grammy winning hit single 'I Feel For You', earning a Grammy for Mele Mel, the first for any Rap artist. Also among their many achievements is their performance on the anti-apartheid song 'Sun City', created by Bruce Springsteen's guitarist Steven Van Zandt, which saw The Furious Five performing with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin of the Temptations, Ruben Blades, Miles Davis & Herbie Hancock. The Furious 5 revolutionised music, helping to create a template for the industry that exists today, yet even now Mele Mel and Scorpio are pushing the boundaries of expectation by taking their sound in a new direction. New single 'Some Kind of Sorry' boasts lyrically dextrous and incisively delivered raps juxtaposed with a biting guitar riff, pounding drums and an infectious, melodic sung chorus. This genre crossing record will appeal to the group's original fanbase as well as bringing their music to a new generation.
Notes:

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five formed in the South Bronx of New York City in 1978 and comprised five rappers Mele Mel, The Kidd Creole, Keith Cowboy, Scorpio, and Rahiem, together with one DJ, Grandmaster Flash.

The group's use of turntablism, break-beat deejaying, choreographed stage routines and lyricism was a significant force in the early development of Hip Hop music.

Whilst rapping a scat routine at a party for a friend who had just joined the US Army, Cowboy began scat singing the words "hip/hop/hip/hop" in a way that mimicked the rhythmic cadence of the marching drill. He then worked the "hip hop" cadence into part of his performance. This evolved into the term 'Hip Hop', which was later adopted by the industry.

Melvin 'Mele Mel' Glover, the first person to call himself MC, was born in The Bronx in New York City. A former Break Dancer aka B-Boy, he was responsible for writing the first Hip Hop style rhyme. He is known as an exceptional lyricist, song writer and hip hop pioneer.

Eddie 'Mr. Ness/Scorpio' Morris was born in The Bronx in New York City and was also a Break Dancer before picking up the microphone. Scorpio was instrumental in the group's uniform style through the 1980's when they wore leather. Scorpio is known for his dextrous rhymes and flamboyant poses on stage, in photos and videos. DJ Grandmaster Flash does not perform with the lineup currently touring. Originator of the 'scratch', Joseph Sadler aka Grandmaster Flash was the DJ in the group and never recorded on any of the records that were released under the name Grandmaster Flash and The Furious 5. UK top ten hits 'White Lines', 'Step Off', and 'Beat Street' were recorded after Grandmaster Flash was released from the group. The single 'White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)' is credited to 'Grandmaster & Mele Mel'.

The Furious Five have influenced many musical acts such as The Cold Crush Brothers, Run-D.M.C., Whodini, Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, KRS-One, EPMD, Stetsasonic, Doug E. Fresh, Salt-n-Pepa, Ultramagnetic MC's, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Eminem, Pharoahe Monch, Busta Rhymes, DJ Quik, Beastie Boys, Hieroglyphics, Too Short, Wu-tang Clan, Digital Underground, Tupac Shakur, NWA, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Ludacris, Heavy D, and The Roots, among many others. Ice Cube recorded a song titled 'Check Yo Self' with Das EFX, the remix of which sampled the music of 'The Message'.

On March 12th 2007 Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were inducted into prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with R.E.M., The Ronettes, Patti Smith and Van Halen.

SERATONES - Premiere New Track, Touring with The Dandy Warhols

SERATONESPREMIERE "SUN" VIA NMEGet Gone out May 6th via Fat Possum(Credit: Chad Kamenshine)"...a rowdy blues-rocking band from Louisiana." - New York Times
"Shreveport, La.'s Seratones is a kick-ass rock band that has all the stage presence in the world." -NPR Music
"While there was more than enough great music - among those who excelled were...Seratones" - Wall StreetJournal"...right in the Southern rock wheelhouse...equal parts swagger and aggression." - Stereogum
"...['Take It Easy'] feels like a bold move. It's closer to a ballad than some might expect from the band, but it's one that tears at the soul with sharp teeth." - Consequence of Sound
"'Chandelier' is a southern gothic garage rock jam that will have you buying a leather jacket and dreaming of the summer...Everything's coming up Seratones." - Noisey
