Cloud Cult Announces New Dates Playing Back-to-Back Sets | "The Seeker" Film Now Screening Nationwide!

Cloud Cult Announces New Shows After Sold Out
U.S. West Coast Tour

Winter Dates On Sale Now – Performing Two Full Sets Back-to-Back

Band also Brings Their Feature Film to Theaters Nationwide

NEW YORK, NY – November 16, 2016 – In the wake of a collapsing music industry that’s struggling to stay profitable, independent rock band Cloud Cult has served as a model of innovation for over 15 years, and their current release  The Seeker  is no exception.  From being the first band to develop a 100% postconsumer recycled CD case back in 2000 to releasing their most critically acclaimed album AND an award winning feature film in 2016, the band continues to surge forward.  Music critics have argued that this creative flexibility stems from the fact that years ago the band declined offers to be backed by major labels in favor of staying independent and paving their own way.

That path seems to be working for this Midwestern group of musicians.  Fresh off of a sold outWest Coast tour Cloud Cult has announced additional dates for a special run of shows in the Southern US that sees the orchestral indie-rock band performing two back-to-back sets each night: an acoustic set followed directly by a full electric set.  Dubbed  An Evening with Cloud Cult , the band are continuing to tour in support of their highly innovative multi-media release The Seeker, which came out earlier this year and was accompanied by their award-winning film of the same name.  The Seeker, starring Josh Radnor and Alex McKenna, has been screening to packed audiences at festivals all year.

Cloud Cult’s founder and songwriter Craig Minowa says the band recently teamed up with  Tugg , a film distributor with a massive network of movie theaters nationwide.  Minowa is calling on the band’s supporters to bring the film to a theater in their neighborhood.  According to Minowa, “You take a minute to sign up online to suggest a screening at a theater near you.  You then tell all of your friends about it, and we tell all of our Cloud Cult friends in your area about it. If it pre-sells enough tickets, the event is on, and you get a cut of the ticket sales.”  Learn more here .

Cloud Cult’s 10th full-length album has critics calling it their best work yet.  The Seeker has brought in glowing press from the likes of  Entertainment Weekly  who placed the band’s album and film on the critics “Must List”, and  Paste Magazine  writes “The combined experience is an undeniably moving one”.  Michael Dunaway, director of programming for the Sarasota Film Festival, named The Seeker as one of the top 8 films not to miss, and Jason Carney, the executive director of the Phoenix Film Festival, picked The Seeker as one of the “10 Don’t Miss Movies” (out of more than 150) in his interview with the  Arizona Republic .  The film went on to win “Best Of Fest” at the Speechless Film Festival and had Tribeca’s Joe Neumaier saying ““Anyone who’s ever heard echoes of their childhood during times of crisis or contemplation - meaning, anyone breathing - will be utterly swept away.”

The Seeker continues the band’s search for the meaning of life, death, and all things unknown.  The roots of Cloud Cult’s ongoing philosophical exploration was made clear during a recent performance and interview on NPR’s On Being when Craig Minowa spoke openly with host Krista Tippett about the death of their two year old child: “The art that has emerged ever since — spans the human experience from the rawest grief to the fiercest hope.” – listen  here .

In what’s proving to be a banner year for the band, Cloud Cult also recently won an Emmy for their episode of  The Lowertown Line , which is produced by Twin Cities Public Television and follows the band from their daily nonprofit work to their performance to over 10,000 fans at the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza.  You can check out this beautifully produced 30-minute documentary here or by clicking on the screenshot below.
The upcoming Evening with Cloud Cult dates can be found below, with more U.S. shows being announced soon.  To find The Seeker film at a theater near you, visit Tugg.

Jesca Hoop "Memories Are Now" (Feb. 10th, 2017) + Watch "The Lost Sky" video; UK tour dates

Jesca Hoop signs to Sub Pop and announces the worldwide release of Memories Are Now on February 10th, 2017

Photo credit: Angel CeballosOn February 10th, 2017, Sub Pop will release Memories Are Now, the extraordinary label debut from singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop.

Memories Are Now is an album of stunning original songs- raw yet brimming with energy, forged from rich life experience and emotional depth. Beautifully delivered by an artist that has steadfastly honed her unique craft of musical storytelling.

The nine track album features lead single “The Lost Sky,“ along with standouts “Memories Are Now” and “Pegasi.” This album sees Jesca Hoop at her most realized and very best in her vocation. She wastes no time in making clear the confidence, confrontation, and craftsmanship of her bold and exquisite offering.

The provocative and emotive intrigue is on display in Jesca Hoop’s official video for “The Lost Sky,” directed by Elia Petridis. Stereogum premiered the intense visual and said, "Hoop’s vocals are hauntingly anxious, coupled with a simple acoustic arrangement and subtle bassline: “When we said the words ‘I love you’/ I said them ’cause they are true/ Why would you say those words to me if you could not follow through?” The accompanying visual...is eerie and not entirely what it seems."  (see November 17th story).” Memories Are Now was recorded at NRG Studios, produced by Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes), engineered by Eric Caudieux, mixed by Greg Koller and mastered by Ian Sefchick at Capitol Mastering. The release of Memories Are Now comes on the heels of Love Letter For Fire, her acclaimed duets record with Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam.

Memories Are Now will be released on CD / LP / DL and is available for preorder now [link]. LP preorders through megamart.subpop.com will receive the limited Loser Edition on copper-colored vinyl (while supplies last).

Jesca Hoop will be touring in support of Memories Are Now, on both sides of the Atlantic in the new year.  Check here for all live touring dates www.jescahoop.com/tour

The Molochs Premiere "You And Me" On The 405, Announce Noise Pop/SXSW/LA Dates ll LP 'America's Velvet Glory' Out 1/13 Via Innovative Leisure

The Molochs Premiere "You And Me" Via The 405

Announce Noise Pop + SXSW Dates
LA Shows Nov 20th + 22nd With The Mystery Lights

New Album 'America's Velvet Glory' Out 1/13 Via
Innovative Leisure
LISTEN & SHARE: The Molochs - "You And Me"
Today The Molochs premiered their second single "You And Me" on The 405. When talking about the song lead singer Lucas Fitzsimmons said,"You and Me" is about losing the struggle to control one's emotions. The sentiment is accompanied by a nice hammond organ." "You And Me" is the second single from the band, following their first single "No More Cryin'". Both tracks will be released on 'America's Velvet Glory' out 1/13/17 via Innovative Leisure.First, let’s meet Moloch. You remember him, right? The ancient god, the child eater, the demander of sacrifice, the villain in Ginsberg’s Howl(and also real life) and now the personal antagonist of singer and songwriter Lucas Fitzsimons, who named his band the Molochs because he knew he’d have to make sacrifices to get what he needed, and because he always wanted a reminder of the Ginsbergian monster he’d be fighting against. And so this is how you make a record right now: you fight for every piece, and when Moloch takes apart your relationships and career potential and leaves you sleeping on couches or living in terrifying apartments and just about depleted from awful people involving you in their awful decisions, you grab a bottle of wine (and laugh at the cliché) and put together another song. And once you do that eleven hard-won times in total, you get a record like America’s Velvet Glory: honest, urgent, desperate and fearless because of it. Fitzsimons came to his calling in an appropriately mythic way, born in a historic city not far from Buenos Aires and raised in L.A.’s South Bay—just outside of Inglewood—where he was immersed in the hip-hop hits on local radio. (Westside Connection!) The summer d before he started middle school, a close friend got an electric guitar, and Fitzsimons felt an enirresistible inexplicable power: “I'd go back home and I’d look up guitar chords on the internet—even though I had no guitar—and just imagine how I WOULD play them. I was slowly getting obsessed.” When he was 12, his parents took him back to Argentina, and on the first night, he discovered a long-forgotten almost-broken classical guitar in the basement of his ancestral home: “It sounds made-up, but it’s true,” he says. “I didn't put the guitar down once that whole trip—took it with me everywhere and played and played. When I got back to L.A., I bought my first guitar practically as the plane was landing.” This started a long line of bands and a long experience of learning to perform in public, as Fitzsimons honed intentions and ideas and tried to figure out why that guitar seemed so important. After a trip to India in 2012, he returned renewed and ready to start again, scrapping his band to lead something new and uncompromising. This was the true start of the Molochs: “It didn't make any sense to not do everything exactly the way I wanted to do it,” he says. “I was so shy and introverted that singing publicly sounded like a nightmare come true. But I didn't have a choice—I heard something inside of me and I needed to be the one to express it.” The first album Forgetter Blues was released with Fitzsimons’ guitarist/organist and longtime bandmate Ryan Foster in early 2013 on his own label—named after a slightly infamous intersection in their then-home of Long Beach—and was twelve songs of anxious garage-y proto-punk-y folk-y rock, Modern Lovers demos and Velvet Underground arcana as fuel and foundation both. It deserved to go farther than it did, which sadly wasn’t very far. But it sharpened Fitzsimons and his songwriting, and after three pent-up years of creativity, he was ready to burst. So he decided to record a new album in the spirit of the first, and in the spirit of everything that the Molochs made so far: “I wanted to spend less time figuring out HOW we were gonna do something and just actually do it.” The result is America’s Velvet Glory, recorded with engineer Jonny Bell at effortless (says Fitzsimons) sessions at Long Beach’s JazzCats studio. (Also incubator for Molochs’ new labelmates Wall of Death and Hanni El Khatib.) It starts with an anxious electric minor-key melody and ends on a last lonesome unresolved organ riff, and in between comes beauty, doubt, loss, hate and even a moments or two of peace. There are flashes of 60s garage rock—like the Sunset Strip ’66 stormer “No More Cryin’” or the “Little Black Egg”-style heartwarmer-slash-breaker “The One I Love”—but like one of Foster’s and Fitzsimons’ favorites the Jacobites, the Molochs are taking the past apart, not trying to recreate it. You can hear where songs bend, where voices break, where guitars start to shiver and when strings are about to snap; on “You And Me,” you can almost hear Lou Reed’s ghost call for a solo, and on “I Don’t Love You,” you get that subway-sound guitar and find out what happens when Jonathan Richman’s G-I-R-L-F-R-E-N goes wrong. And of course there’s the charismatic chaos of bootleg basement-tape Dylan—always Dylan, says Fitzsimons—and the locked-room psychedelia of Syd Barrett, especially on “Charlie’s Lips,” Fitzsimons’ ode to—or antidote to—those times when he felt the bleakness completely: “Then a bird lands on a branch nearby, you hear leaves fluttering, you hear a child laughing … all of a sudden things don't seem so bad anymore.”
So Moloch might still be out there, devouring his sacrifices, but the Molochs are still fighting, too. And that’s why Fitzsimons picked the band name—it’s so he remembers what he’s up against. He’s not celebrating the destroyer of youth and individuality and creativity, he says: “I’m just keeping him in sight so that he doesn't win.” – Christopher ZieglerTOUR DATES

Gillian Welch's Boots No. 1, Streaming In Full via NPR First Listen

GILLIAN WELCH’S BOOTS NO 1: THE OFFICIAL REVIVAL BOOTLEG,
STREAMING IN FULL VIA NPR MUSIC FIRST LISTEN
OUT NOVEMBER 25TH ON ACONY RECORDS

FEATURES PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED MATERIAL

DECEMBER TOUR DATES CONFIRMED“Gillian Welch is one of the greatest songwriters on Earth. I've spent countless hours poring over the songs on Revival, and they still transport me to another place and time while somehow feeling current and relevant on a personal level. I'm a huge fan. Very happy to see these outtakes and rarities see the light.” – Jason Isbell“The two-piece outfit called Gillian Welch...is fascinated by the wrinkles and motes of the experience, and has found the notes for them.” – New Yorker“…A leading voice in roots music.” – Wall Street Journal “…a national treasure” – New York Daily NewsGillian Welch will release  Boots No 1: The Official Revival Bootleg  next week, November 25th on Acony Records, but you can stream it today via NPR First Listen (http://n.pr/2g21DeM). The album, which commemorates the 20th anniversary of Welch’s groundbreaking album, Revival, provides an intimate look at Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings’ earliest works, “before they emerged as leading lights in an ascendant Americana scene,” and is “a tremendous reminder of how and why this partnership came to matter so much." (NPR Music)

Boots No 1: The Official Revival Bootleg was personally curated and produced by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, who worked alongside archivist Glen Chausse to mine selections from their extensive vault of analog tape recordings. The two-disc set will feature 8 previously unreleased songs, and include 21 outtakes, alternate versions, and demos from the making of the album, such as the earliest home demo of “Orphan Girl” which was recorded on a four track and the rarity “Georgia Road,” a song that was only performed live once. The demo “Dry Town” which was written the week after Welch and Rawlings opened for Johnny Cash, premiered on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country channel and is highlighted on NPR Music here http://n.pr/2dgQzsE. The album will be available on CD and digitally, and is available for preorder here. Gillian Welch has confirmed tour dates in December (see below).

Of the album, Gillian Welch says, “I’m happy that the songs hold up. That’s probably the thing I’m most proud of. There is that interesting moment in any writer’s first batch of songs or any writer’s first novel or anything, a filmmaker’s first movie that always seems to have something that is different from what comes after. Something happens in that first push. Maybe because you’re usually up against more resistance. But there is a purity or a diamond hardness to the first batch that doesn’t seem to happen again. And so Revival has that when I look at it. Maybe it’s lack of ego. You know, there really was no me. You know, the artist Gillian Welch didn’t really exist. And then after that, I did.”

Revival was Grammy nominated and was highly praised by critics worldwide including The Los Angeles Times who claimed, “…At every turn she demonstrates a spark and commitment that should endear her to anyone, from country and folk to adult pop and rock fan, who appreciates imagination and heart,” Paste Magazine who named Revival the 3rd “Best Alt Country Album of All Time,” andEntertainment Weekly praised, “…winsomely authentic…[Revival] gets an early lead on debut-of-the-year honors.”
On the influence Revival and Gillian Welch had on him, Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers adds, “I was 13 years old when Gillian Welch won a songwriting contest at Merlefest with the song “Orphan Girl.”  Shortly after, when Revival was released, I remember feeling like she and the festival were one and the same...like she and the environment around her were the past and the future of music, and unbelievably, they were right down the road from me in my home state of North Carolina.  She and David Rawlings contributed mightily to a whole new understanding of what and how a song could be.  The simplicity, finesse and timelessness of their work was inspiring beyond measure. The music of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings was magic for me then and it is magic for me now.”

Gillian Welch and musical partner David Rawlings have recorded 7 studio albums and have lent their talents to countless fellow artists’ recordings. In recognition of their remarkable career, Welch and Rawlings were honored with the Americana Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting in 2015 and the Berklee American Masters Award earlier this year.BOOTS NO 1: THE OFFICIAL REVIVAL BOOTLEG TRACK LIST: Disc One 1. Carla Sariñana’s Silver Rose ‘Take Me Home’

Carla Sariñana’s Silver Rose project revitalises rock with the gothic romantic splendour of ‘Take Me Home’ the enchanting lead track from her self-titled EP.
“If you’re looking for a soundtrack to your next love affair, here it is” Indie Hoy
“Take Me Home - a song that takes us to new sound dimensions” Indie Rocks
“The video is a combination of many lo-fi images of Carla walking around Los Angeles combined with the dreamy song, making it very difficult to not fall, at least a little bit, in love with her.” Noisey

Silver_Rose (light).jpg

About ‘Take Me Home’ With its swirling ambience, larger than life production and a reverb-heavy wall of sound, ‘Take Me Home’ is a monolithic testament to the gothic pop of yesteryear. The lead track from Silver Rose’s new self-titled EP out now, it’s a disarming showcase of Carla Sariñana’s stupefying abilities as both a singer and a songwriter. Like listening to the doomed romance of The Jesus and Mary Chain filtered through contemporary production values, Sariñana manages a sound that’s both thrillingly immediate and artfully idiosyncratic. With enchanting melodies that Cocteau Twins would doff a hat to, and feral feedback-oriented noise rock dynamics, ‘Take Me Home’ proves to be an irresistibly raw offering from a beguiling new talent.
About ‘Silver Rose’ “Honest, heartfelt stories of love, loneliness, dreams and perseverance”The genesis of Carla Sariñana’s Silver Rose project originates in Los Angeles in the spring and summer months of 2015. In thrall to shoegaze and dream pop and the iconography of the 1970s, Carla set to work rendering her unique take on these influences through Silver Rose. No veteran to the indie scene, Carla has been playing bass and writing songs for successful all-female Mexican rock band Ruido Rosa since 2005. By playing every battle of the bands competition they could find and every venue that would have them, they grew a loyal fanbase through their raw and energetic live shows. Silver Rose is a way for Carla to express her more vulnerable and romantic side; her songs wear their heart on their sleeve. Birthed out of a love for glamour and melancholy and nostalgia, Silver Rose is an empowering and vital project that resonates with and inspires anyone who laments the faded glamour of rock and roll. Her new material was refined in live performance in various bars around Los Angeles and in Mexico City where she has played El Imperial, and Caradura at Festival Marvin. With Ruido Rosa, she has played the Harvard and Stone, SXSW, ViveLatino, and supported KISS, Maroon 5 and Queens of the Stone Age. Carla’s songwriting is affirmatively old school, and in a pop landscape which often feels lustreless and tacky like cheap perfume, Silver Rose is a fragrant blast of fresh air.

Agnes Obel, 2017 North American Tour

EUROPE'S ENIGMATIC AGNES OBEL ANNOUNCES NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOUR FOR EARLY 2017
New Music Video for "It's Happening Again" Premiered Exclusively on NPR's "First Watch"(Click here to view) Agnes Obel * Photo Credit:  Alex Bruel Flagstad

LOS ANGELES, CA -  (WEDNESDAY, November 16, 2016) -- Having just released Citizen of Glass, praised by the UK's Q as "a thing of quiet wonder" and by America's Mother Jones as "a beautiful album likely to soothe the dark night of the soul," Agnes Obel will headline a four-week North American tour that kicks off February 28 in Montreal, Canada and wraps in Ann Arbor, MI on March 31.  Tickets for most dates go on sale this Friday, November 18; log on to www.agnesobel.com for complete ticketing info.
In addition, Obel's new music video for the new track "It's Happening Again" was premiered on NPR's "First Watch."  The animated piece, created/directed by Alex Bruel Flagstad who has directed several of Obel's videos, is a kaleidoscopic journey through dimensions of colors, patterns, twinkling lights and other celestial images, all perfect for Obel's ethereal voice and wistful harmonies.   The video can be viewed here.
Marking her concert return to North America for the first time in two years, Obel's dates are in support of Citizen of Glass (10-21-16/Play In Again Sam), her first concept album and most ambitious work to date.  The title comes from the German concept of the Gläserner
bürger , the "human or glass citizen," that deals with the individual's level of privacy.  Rooted in today's overshare-heavy age of social media, Obel has woven this concept, lyrically and musically, into the album's ten tracks, as they examine the provocative topics of transparency and diminishing privacy, a world of "glass people" who bare all via social media, and the affect that has on us emotionally and creatively.
"I wanted to write about the transparency and the difference between secrets and confession," said Obel to The Irish Times, who uses social networking platforms solely for work-related topics. "There's a strong sense these days - these decades, even - that we're all under surveillance.  Secrets can be very good to have and to keep."
For this tour, Obel will be joined onstage by Charlotte Danhier (cello, loops, vocals, mellotron, drums, uke), Catherine de Blasio (drums, vocals, bass clarinet, percussion), and Kristina Koropecki (cello, loops, vocals, percussion).  Fans can expect a set list comprised of songs from Obel's critically-acclaimed and platinum-selling albums Philharmonics (2010) and Aventine (2013), as well as selections from Citizen of Glass.
With more dates to be announced, the Agnes Obel North American tour itinerary is as follows:

50 Years With Peter Paul and Mary DVD

50 Years With Peter Paul and Marycoming to home video on December 9thA celebration of the trio whose anthems provided America's soundtrack for generations 50 Years With Peter Paul and Mary   is a new documentary by four-time Emmy Award-winning producer/ director Jim Brown that focuses on portions of the trio's career not included in previously aired PBS specials. This program features rare and previously unseen television footage including a BBC program from the early 1960s that embodies many of the trio's best performances and most popular songs. This is Peter Paul and Mary at the peak of their artistry, a time when this popular and influential trio dominated the Billboard music charts.
From the group's emergence in Greenwich Village, to the Civil Rights and Anti-War era of the 1960s, through the decades of their later advocacy and music, to Mary Travers' moving memorial, and finally to the present, where their legacy continues to inform and inspire successive generations, this far deeper and more intimate exploration of the trio reveals the impact of their artistry and activism on their generation and the world.
50 Years With Peter Paul and Mary  will be available on DVD and select video on-demand platforms on December 9th.
