SAVOY MOTEL ANNOUNCE HEADLINE LA SHOW FEBRUARY 8TH AT THE ECHO INBETWEEN DATES WITH THE LEMON TWIGS
Savoy Motel Announce Headline LA Show At The Echo February 8th
Inbetween Dates With The Lemon Twigs Self-Titled Debut Album Out Now On What's Your Rupture? Records LISTEN

Photo: Semi Song The debut album by Nashville's Savoy Motel comes from a pedigree of garage, punk, and power-pop groups (bassist Jeffrey Novak founded both Cheap Time and the Rat Traps; drummer Jessica McFarland was also in Cheap Time, and along with guitarists Dillon Watson and Mimi Galbierz, played in Heavy Cream). Savoy Motel transposes the energy and hooks of those groups to an entirely different move: an intensely orchestrated hybrid of glam rock, soul, dance music, and showmanship. “We use rock and roll as a vehicle to reach and promote the feeling of TOTAL FREEDOM,” claims Dillon. “Savoy Motel is defined more by a feeling than a sound.” Savoy Motel achieves a compositional harmony through the meshing of the clockwork precision in the rhythms of each song, with Jessica hammering out the beats alongside a vintage Rhythm King drum machine, and Mimi locking in on guitar, alongside the interplay of three lead vocalists, while Dillon rips intense fuzz leads on every track, and Jeffrey adds the hooks on his bass. Dillon remarks: “After Jeffrey repeatedly insisted that I play more and more like Jimi and Clapton, I realized that he wanted the shit to rock, and that he was not only unafraid of, but actually going for what a lot of contemporaries would consider faux pas. I think we were all ready for something radical and new, and Jeffrey was ready to lead us there.” The whole package opens up their horizons, and yours, to a sound made by four friends tired of witnessing music eat its own tail; with unclouded judgment, creative refinements, and peerless technique, they grab that tail and stick it into a wall socket, putting the cap back on 15+ years of rock revivalism and strident genre adherence. And they make it seem easy. If it was that easy, though, everybody else would be doing it. Look around you. That’s not happening. Savoy Motel is happening. “Whatever musical past we had feels obsolete compared to what we’re doing now,” says Jeffrey. “The past turned its back on us, so we had to turn our backs on the past in order to find our future.” The band have been touring North America and the UK in support of their self-titled debut album on What’s Your Rupture? Records. They now announce new live dates with The Lemon Twigs for January and February.

Tim Presley "Clue" video plus tour

THE WiNK OUT NOW!

The unbreakable musical tension sharpens and slacks when coupled with the imagery provided by director Matt Grote. Shot entirely in black and white, Timfreely sways and struts while singing upon a maze of high, wild mercury stings, prompting a state of post-pop psychosis. Oh and did we mention the nuns?
Watch the video for "Clue" via Stereogum's premire below, and be sure to attend all of the upcoming Tim Presley/ Cate Le Bon tour dates in January!

Chicano Batman to release FREEDOM IS FREE on March 3 via ATO Records
CHICANO BATMANTO RELEASE FREEDOM IS FREE ON MARCH 3 VIA ATO RECORDS
PREMIERES "FRIENDSHIP (IS A SMALL BOAT IN A STORM)" VIDEO WITH NOISEY
& ANNOUNCES NATIONAL HEADLINING TOUR
"With their blend of Brazilian Tropicalia and lavish '60s psych groove, Chicano Batman have established themselves as a genre of one"
- Entertainment Weekly
"Their sets are serious business: You can climb into one of them and follow it a long way"
- NY Times
New York, NY (December 7, 2016) – Chicano Batman came out of L.A., four young men in vintage formalwear, playing songs that blended Brazilian Tropicalía with early ’70s psychedelic soul and the romantic pop of bands like Los Ángeles Negros. It was an immediately addictive sonic brew, and their reputation grew fast. Now, they’re making their boldest statement yet with Freedom Is Free , their third album and ATO Records debut, out March 3, 2017.
The first single, “Friendship (Is a Small Boat In A Storm),” is an organ-driven soul jam with buzzing, psychedelicguitar and the Alan Del Río Ortiz (Solange, Major Lazer, St. Vincent, Blood Orange) directed video premieres today at Noisey . New York’s all-female Mariachi Flor de Toloache have featured vocals on the song and in the video.
"This is a song of betrayal in the most mundane sense," says frontman Bardo Martinez. "It's about the trials and tribulations of friendship and also a personal reflection on the painful realities of human relationships." The video follows a series of documentary style tableaus that relate to friendship and betrayal, each scene highlighting the aftermath of a friendship, or depicting the moment a friendship begins to sour.

Chicano Batman’s look has done as much to set them apart as their sound or their name. Since the beginning, they’ve performed in matching suits and ruffled shirts; Bardo explains, “We’re making a particular reference that some people understand—Los Ángeles Negros, Los Pasteles Verdes. In the ’70s, it was a big thing where all these cats were playing romantic ballads, but they were funky as hell.”
Freedom Is Free reflects Chicano Batman’s decision to foreground the soul and R&B elements of their sound. To achieve their ambitious sonic goals, the quartet worked with producer Leon Michels (El Michels Affair, The Arcs) in his Diamond Mine Recording studio in Long Island City, NY. Michels, a veteran in the New York soul scene, has performed in Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, The Black Keys and The Menahan Street Band. In addition to tracking the album to analog tape, Michels contributed keyboards and his trademark horn arrangements (he’s been sampled by Jay-Z and Ghostface Killah). The partnership between Michels and Chicano Batman truly captures the band's live energy and brings their aesthetic goals to life.
Outside the studio, Chicano Batman have built a stellar reputation through heavy touring across the country. They've played major festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo. Opening for Jack White, Alabama Shakes, The Claypool Lennon Delirium and Gogol Bordello on recent tours has given them the chance to win over thousands of rock fans, night after night.
Chicano Batman start their national headlining tour in February 2017 in Seattle, supported by 79.5 (who will join the band on backing vocals), SadGirl and select dates with The Shacks. The tour will run through the spring and summer, with more shows to be added constantly, sharing with anyone who wants to hear the news that Freedom Is Free.

Japanese Breakfast and Eskimeaux embark on Winter solo tour
JAPANESE BREAKFAST AND ESKIMEAUXEMBARK ON WINTER SOLO TOUR
Photo Credit: Phobymo Photo Credit: Richard Gin
Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast and Gabrielle Smith of Eskimeaux have announced a joint solo tour. The east coast Winter tour kicks off next week at Rock N Roll Hotel in Washington DC.
TOUR DATES:12/14 Washington DC @ Rock N Roll Hotel12/15 Philadelphia PA @ First Unitarian Church (Chapel) *SOLD OUT*12/16 Brooklyn, NY @ Shea Stadium *SOLD OUT*12/17 Providence, RI @ Columbus Theater12/18 Boston, MA @ Middle East Upstairs (Matinée).
ABOUT JAPANESE BREAKFAST:A side project from her work as front woman of Philadelphia indie punk band Little Big League, Michelle Zauner released a tape in June 2013 under the solo moniker Japanese Breakfast. The tape was titled June and boasted thirty tracks written and recorded every day of the month. A stark deviation from Little Big League's guitar- based indie rock, it showcased Zauner's dark lyrics, unique vocals and inherent knack for pop melody.
Two bedroom pop cassettes later, Japanese Breakfast returns with its first full- fledged LP and vinyl release, Psychopomp. The album explores Zauner's experimental interests and hosts a wide range of sound: jarring anime samples, minimalist ballads, rhythms and synths reminiscent of Tango in the Night-era Fleetwood Mac paired with the moody intimacy of Mount Eerie. After the foundation of the album was built, Zauner enlisted Ned Eisenberg to coproduce and embellish the record. Eisenberg helped with the mixing and production of the album. Psychopomp revisits and revamps lo-fi tracks and adds chilling new songs to fall in love with.
ABOUT ESKIMEAUX:Eskimeaux is the recording project of songwriter and producer Gabrielle Smith. The project began in 2007 as an outlet for Smith's experimental and noisy home-recordings. In 2011, Smith formed The Epoch collective with several other Brooklyn-based songwriters and artists, and began developing her sound over the years into the realm of more structured pop songwriting. Smith released her full-length album, O.K., on Double Double Whammy in 2015. O.K. received wide critical acclaim, being called the #1 record of the year by the U.K. blog GoldFlakePaint, and was featured in NPR's All Songs Considered's Top 10 albums of 2015.
Eskimeaux's latest recording, Year of the Rabbit, advances Smith's sound further; the collection of songs was recorded mostly live by Emily Sprague and Felix Walworth, two fellow members of the Epoch, in their home studio in Brooklyn. The record is the first to showcase the sound of Eskimeaux's live band as its primary sonic touchstone, replacing the highly produced and overdubbed sound of Smith's earlier records with a more immediate, naturally produced sound.

Mega Bog Premieres New Song "London"; Announces NYC Benefit Shows
MEGA BOG PREMIERES NEW SONG "LONDON"
ANNOUNCES NYC BENEFIT SHOWS
NEW ALBUM HAPPY TOGETHER OUT 2/3
Mega Bog -- NYC's Erin Birgy -- premiered her latest single "London" today via Stereogum. Birgy dedicated the new song to her close friend Nick Gomez-Hall, who died in last week's Ghost Ship fire. A photographer and musician, Gomez-Hall took the studio photos of Mega Bog shown in this press release. Birgy invites fans to donate to the relief fund for victims of the fire here.
LISTEN TO "LONDON"
"A jazzy experimental rock track - spacious, warm, and eerie, with brass, guitar, and vocal melodies weaving in the ether. It portends good things for Mega Bog's new album." -Stereogum
"London" will appear on Mega Bog's upcoming new album Happy Together, out February 3 via Nicey Music, along with the previously released tracks "Fwee" and "192014." Mega Bog has also announced performances at two NYC benefit shows this week:
12/09: Benefit for Planned Parenthood @ 390 Seneca Ave - Ridgewood, NY12/10: NYC Benefit for Standing Rock @ (Le) Poisson Rouge

More on Happy Together
Awaited for years by the large nationwide cult of Boggers in the know, Erin Birgy's second LP at the helm of the fog-shrouded ship they call MEGA BOG is an instant and timeless classic. It's equal parts nostalgic and futuristic, mapping a new, jazz-literate and free form of songcraft onto the model of the traditional guitar-based band. It's poetry on roller skates, defying recognizable structures in favor of a stream-of-consciousness flow that guides Erin's lyrics around their many soft and uncertain turns. It's an inspiring example of a unique vision carried to its most honest and vulnerable realization.
Happy Together was assembled on tape amidst a lot of movement, including Erin's relocation from Seattle to New York. Like Joni Mitchell or Beefheart, Birgy has a seemingly magical ability to steer a diverse bunch of players into her own dream-world. And this album has a lot of players, many with big credentials we'll refrain from mentioning (except for Zach Burba and Will Murdoch from iji, and James Krivchenia from Big Thief, who earn mentions for being particularly present). Considering its variety of personnel and its long gestation, Happy Together is a remarkably consistent and complete record that cuts the deepest when experienced from start to finish, as it arcs from the surreal bubblegum tempos of "Diznee" and "Marianne," through the extended dreamscapes of songs like "192014," and out to the free-wheeling catharsis of "Blackout" and "Fwee." Take the journey.

FKA twigs and WeTransfer Studios Present Documentary Baltimore Dance Project
FKA twigs AND WETRANSER STUDIOSPRESENT DOCUMENTARYBALTIMORE DANCE PROJECT
Wednesday, December 7, 2016 - Today FKA twigs, in partnership with WeTransfer Studios, presents the heartwarming documentary film Baltimore Dance Project. Filmed at Baltimore's Lithuanian Hall on July 18, 2016, the documentary chronicles the multi-faceted artist as she calls to action a community to gather and celebrate artistic expression by dancing together. The documentary can be viewed exclusively onhttps://wetransfer.com/thisworks/studios/fka-twigs-baltimore/ The film showcases the soul and passion of the people of Baltimore, on one of the hottest days of the year and during a politically charged era, coming together to share passion and be united. Days ahead of her headlining show in Baltimore, FKA twigs used social media to let fans know she'd be holding a (free) workshop and would invite some of those dancers to join her on stage later that week. To her delight, over 400 people showed up ready to dance, have a good time and be part of something bigger; something joyful. FKA twigs, along with her collaborators Ramon Baynes, Kash Powell and Dominic Lawrence choreographed the group for over 5 hours taking them through different routines and encouraging them to add their own touch. This resulted in a unique 9.14 minute documentary , directed by longtime collaborator Nick Walker. FKA twigs: "When I was thinking about doing a dance project, the obvious places would be LA or New York but I thought why not go to a place that obviously has so much soul and so much amazing energy? You'll be able to connect with them rather than being another artist that is passing through." A trailer of the film premiered yesterday with the Baltimore Sun. Yesterday evening, the Baltimore dance community got the exclusive premiere of the film at Lithuanian Hall, where Twigs surprised the dancers with a personal video message. About WeTransfer StudiosSince day one, WeTransfer has supported the creative communities by giving away 30% of the background imagery to showcase projects they love. WeTransfer Studios develops that commitment to bringing creatives together on original, collaborative projects across art, design, music and more. It goes beyond curating the best existing work on the platform and moves into creating new work to share with the world.

A vinyl-only version came out last week on Record Store Day (http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/8704). Among the additional newly announced performers are Radical Face, fronted by Jacksonville singer-songwriter Ben Cooper; Electric Guest; SF-born singer and multi-instrumentalist Hanni El Khatib; Athens rock outfit Mothers; the Oakland-based Aussie Hazel English, whom you may remember from this year’s 20th Street Block Party; and Bay Area rock group The Mother Hips.
