BONZIE SHARES "AS THE SURFACE ROSE" DOUBLE SINGLE VIA UNDER THE RADAR

On the title track to her double single As the Surface Rose, BONZIE builds a beautifully sprawling, hypnotically detailed reverie from what began in the starkest of moments. “‘As the Surface Rose’ was written on this old piano I grew up with, the day before it was going off to someone else,” says Nina Ferraro, a 21-year-old singer/multi-instrumentalist who’s created under the moniker of BONZIE since age 18. “For as long as I can remember, this piano exists in my memories, so I was playing it incessantly before I had to leave it. I was in this unfurnished house—the last bones of the house I grew up in—with literally only myself, this piano, and walls.”
“As the Surface Rose” expands on the surrealist pop first revealed on BONZIE’s debut album, a 2013 effort praised by Spin, Vogue, and Paste. In bringing the song to life, Ferraro collaborated with San Fermin’s Ellis Ludwig-Leone and Blue Hawaii’s Agor Cowan to merge orchestral flourishes with electronic experimentalism. “We recorded strings and horns and piano and came up with this almost classical-sounding recording, then spliced everything up with electronics and completely messed with that,” recalls Ferraro. “I wanted to create a feeling of being lifted from reality, with these small but powerful sounds that shift you in all different directions.” And for the lyric-free B-side “Half Full,” Ferraro recorded at The Loft (Wilco’s famed Chicago studio), sculpting a sparse and dreamlike track woven with choirlike vocals and graceful acoustic guitar.
With As the Surface Rose, BONZIE shows a nuanced musicality honed through a lifetime of self-possessed artistry. Now based in Chicago, Ferraro taught herself to play guitar at age nine and became a fixture on Chicago’s club circuit within a matter of years. Soon releasing her debut album—whose lead single “Data Blockers” was hailed by Spin for its “narrow vocals, wordless refrains, and furious chords”—she captivated audiences with a highly lauded performance at South By Southwest, further establishing herself as a mesmerizing live act (“Delicacy and drama, surrender and anger, made a riveting combination when BONZIE performed,” wrote chief popular-music criticJon Pareles in the New York Times).
BONZIE is now set to release her second full-length, the much-anticipated Zone on Nine. Due out in early 2017, the album was produced by Ferraro herself, along with Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Conor Oberst) and Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, Youth Lagoon).

After record-breaking sales in Montreal this year, the show will be presented under the Big Top in the Old Port starting April 20, 2017.
Anthony Gonzalez, the sonic author behind the sublime sound of M83 is known for his epic space-age future pop. In 2011, the Grammy-nominated album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming revealed M83 to mainstream audiences with the hit single “Midnight City.”
“We have been following the work of M83 for many years and have always been convinced of the incredible potential of integrating his music to a Cirque du Soleil production,” says director of creation Jean Guibert. “VOLTA is a contemporary show brimming with energy, but it is also deeply human and theatrical. We were seduced by Anthony’s ability to create melodies that are both epic and poetic and transcend the heart and soul. We are honored that he agreed to lend his talent to this project,” explains writer and director Bastien Alexandre.
About his collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, Gonzalez says: “When Jean and Bastien first approached me, I was immediately excited about the idea of working with Cirque du Soleil. Not just because they are a company known throughout the world, but also because I was deeply attracted by the story of VOLTA, and the spirit that underpins the show. The story of VOLTA is ours. It is a tale of a generation who is calling for change and I was very keen to contribute to telling this story. I'm deeply honored to be part of the Cirque team and it’s a wonderful new challenge in unknown territory for me. Ultimately, it’s challenges like this that I find so inspiring and drive me to make the music that I do.”
VOLTA tells a spellbinding story about the freedom to choose and the thrill of blazing your own trail. Inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of action sports, the show weaves the adrenaline rush of acrobatics into a visually striking world driven by a stirring melodic score.

First American Show For Last Place Set For New York City On February 28th, 2017!
Grandaddy are thrilled to share the newest song from their forthcoming album Last Place , the first new record from the band since 2006, which will be released via 30th Century Records on March 3rd, 2017. The track, entitled "A Lost Machine," is available for streaming now; a video for the song can be seen HERE.
"'A Lost Machine' has a special place on the new Grandaddy album," says frontmanJason Lytle, "Every now and then I luck out and get a pretty good idea of what a song wants to be before I dig in and start working on it. This was one of those songs. I had all kinds imagery and feelings in mind to guide me through the tracking and producing process. When this song started taking shape, it was the point where I knew I was working on a new Grandaddy album."
Grandaddy have also announced their first American show for Last Place , occurring in New York City on February 28, 2017 at Le Poisson Rouge. Tickets for this special show are on sale now. In addition to previously announced UK and European dates,Grandaddy have also been confirmed as part of this year's stellar Primavera Sound festival. All dates are listed below.
After Grandaddy broke up in 2006, Jason Lytle relocated to Montana, where he happily made two solo albums, and reconnected with the natural world around him. Eventually, though, life uprooted him again, taking him to Portland, Oregon until he eventually returned to his former home of Modesto, California. The return to California was practical (he needed to be near his bandmates) but also appropriate: he had started writing songs that he felt would be fitting for another Grandaddy album. The result, Last Place , is a perfect addition to the band's celebrated, critically-acclaimed catalogue, that includes their breakthrough sophomore album, Sophtware Slump, and their debut, Under the Western Freeway. It's a symphonic swirl of lo-fi sonics and mile-high harmonies, found sounds and electronics-gone-awry mingling with perfect, power pop guitar tones. Lytle's voice sounds as warm and intimate as ever, giving graceful levity to the doomsday narratives that have dominated the Grandaddy output.
