EDVARD GRAHAM LEWIS: Wire bassist announces new solo album 'Alreet?', out Jan 24th. Hear "Last Scene Of All" now.
- ‘Alreet?’ out January 24th via Upp Records
- Hear “Last Scene Of All” now

Today Maverick musician and artist Edvard Graham Lewis returns with new album ‘Alreet?’ : an exciting album of majestic, experimental pop set for release on January 24th via Upp Records.
The cheery North Eastern greeting of the album’s title belies the tension and drama that lies within. Here, you’ll find visceral rhythms, warm electronics and multiple melodic layers, with words that are sometimes sung, sometimes spoken. Lewis’s deep, distinctive voice has matured into a rich baritone: portentous yet immediate - and it serves his material exceptionally well.
Today, along with the announcement he shares the urgent broadcast “Last Scene Of All”, where speeches from Shakespeare’s As You Like It and The Tempest lock together to suggest a life going out with a bang not a whimper. Lewis is one of very few artists with the confidence and brio to create a lyric collaged purely from the works of Shakespeare. Set against chugging beats and siren squeals of guitar, it’s a fevered and compelling introduction to the album.

Although Edvard Graham Lewis is perhaps best known as bassist/vocalist/lyricist with post-punk titans Wire, Lewis’s solo work is equally powerful. Lyrically he remains one of our finest wordsmiths. His desire to edit his text to its essentials is smartly counterbalanced by an ability to seed double or triple meanings in his phraseology. Consequently, 'Alreet?' is studded with lines and couplets that snare our attention with unexpected hooks and barbs.
The album was co-produced with Swedish songwriter, producer and musician Max Lorentz, who has worked with everyone from acclaimed composer Magnus Lindberg, to ABBA’s Agnetha Faltskog. It features contributions from Wire cohorts Matthew Simms and Robert Grey, cello by Kevin Kirs Vestege, hurdy-gurdy by Harald Pettersson and guitars sampled from ex-Wire member Bruce Gilbert.
Aside from his work with Wire, Lewis has previously released a string of solo albums, under both his own name and the He Said and H-A-L-O monikers. Meanwhile, in partnership with Wire’s Bruce Gilbert, he created five albums of industrial strength studio manipulation as Dome. He has also recorded scores for documentaries, dance pieces and art installations, as well as recording collaborative albums with various musical luminaries, including Mike Watt, Jean-Louis Huhta, Ted Milton and Anna Livia Löwendahl-Atomic.
As ‘Alreet?’ clearly demonstrates, Lewis is still firmly facing the future and determined to unearth new sonic treasure. Indeed, this is one of the most starkly original albums you will hear all year.
‘Alreet?’ track list:
1. ‘Kinds of Whether’
2. ‘Diamond Shell’
3. ‘Switch’
4. ‘Last Scene of All’
5. ‘Bang!’
6. ‘I Still Remember’

QUINQUIS Shares New Track "Morwreg" || Out Now On Mute
QUINQUIS SHARES NEW TRACK “MORWREG”

Today QUINQUIS, aka Breton musician and songwriter Émilie Quinquis, has shared a new track, ahead of a performance at Trans Musicales Festival on December 5th.
The track is the first new QUINQUIS music since the AER EP and her debut album on Mute, SEIM (2022), which was described by Uncut as “… ethereal, sometimes casually ominous songs… amid flickering synth flourishes”.
“Morwreg” (translation “mermaid” in Breton) is a haunting love song between a mermaid and a sailor. The track was inspired by the women of Ushant Island, where Émilie lives, and the love stories they historically shared with sailors who would arrive for a few weeks, then go away for months. Legends say that some of the women of Ushant have a mermaid as an ancestor. The mermaid in the song had 11 sisters, all left behind when she fell in love with a human, and she, and her descendants were cursed because of this. “Morwreg” is the love song that the mermaid may have sung to her sailor before the sea, or her sisters, took him.
Listen to the track, where ambient synthesis builds into urgent beats rising from the abyss. The cavernous track opens out into arpeggio-ed melodies while QUINQUIS’ haunting mermaid asks the sailor “Lâr din ervat ha ma c’harez?” (translation: “Tell me beautifully, do you love me?”).
WATCH THE VIDEO FOR “MORWREG” HERE.
Last month, Ladytron shared Emilie Quinquis’ remix of “We Never Went Away”, and recent remixes of her own work include Phew’s remix of ‘'Netra Ken’ and Keeley Forsyth’s take on “Adkrog”. Both “Netra Ken” and “Adkrog” were singles from SEIM, an album that forges a deep connection to the artist’s own culture, history and identity.
“Morwreg” is out on Mute today across all digital platforms.

Skeleten (producer/writer Russ Fitzgibbon) shares "Bodys Chorus" single - New album 'Mentalized' on 2MR out 2.7.25
SKELETEN RELEASES NEW SINGLE “BODYS CHORUS”
FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM MENTALIZED
OUT FEBRUARY 7 VIA 2MR / ASTRAL PEOPLE

“‘Bodys Chorus’ was a key point in discovering the sound and themes on the album.
Free the life force. Share space and movement. Say no to mentalization.
Wikipedia: Chorus is an audio effect that occurs when individual sounds with approximately the same time, and very similar pitches, converge… None of the constituent sounds are perceived as being out of tune. It is characteristic of sounds with a rich, shimmering quality that would be absent if the sound came from a single source.
Like that but with bodys (sic).“
- Skeleten
Today, Sydney-based artist Skeleten (aka Russell Fitzgibbon) unveils new single “Bodys Chorus”, ahead of his forthcoming second album release, Mentalized, arriving in full on February 7, 2025 via 2MR / Astral People Recordings.
“Bodys Chorus” pulls you in with hypnotic synth-bell chimes, and pushes you back with staccato overdrive guitar stabs, as if shaking you out of a daydream. Turntablist scratching is layered within the sonic texture of both the song and the album to come, an homage to nu-metal and trip hop’s humanistic approach to electronic music. It’s an attention to detail that Skeleten relishes in, and which rewards deep listens.
Listen / Share / Playlist “Bodys Chorus”

Mentalized exists in a rich sonic universe defined by hypnotic yet emotive songwriting, and organic production that draws from a vast blend of influences. Where Skeleten’s lauded debut album Under Utopia celebrated a world of hope and beauty pushed upwards by us all, his second record will posit that this push comes with a struggle. It is less about the fantastical, and more about asking how we are mentalized, and taken away from ourselves everyday. To play in this world doesn’t come without working for it, and that struggle is best when shared.
“Bodys Chorus” joins his recent singles “Deep Scene”, “Love Enemy”, and “Viagra”, alongside respective remixes by Axel Boman and Spray, in laying the foundations for Mentalized. The releases earned nods from Stereogum, PAPER, Brooklyn Vegan, Paste, KEXP, KCRW and more.
In 2023, Skeleten emerged with his critically adored, ARIA-charting album, Under Utopia. Described by The FADER as “perfect for the fans of the minds-eye psychedelia of Caribou and DJ Koze”, the record was nominated for the Australian Music Prize (2023), AIR Awards Best Independent Dance or Electronica Album or EP (2024) and FBi Radio’s SMAC Award for Album of the Year (2023), named at #20 in NME AU’s Top 25 Albums of 2023, and #27 in Double J’s 50 Best Albums of 2023, and saw remixes from the likes of Logic1000 and Jennifer Loveless. Having performed with The Streets, Tirzah, SBTRKT, DJ Seinfeld, Hot Chip and Glass Beams, he has also since been booked for major Australian festivals Dark Mofo, VIVID LIVE, Splendour In The Grass, and sold a number of headlines including the Sydney Opera House.
Ahead of a special appearance at Golden Plains festival in 2025, Skeleten is curating a regular live series at Newtown’s Pleasure Club. Recently debuting this month alongside Hugh B and the Modern Pop Ensemble and Killian, the residency’s intention will be spotlighting local talent across the city’s different scenes, alongside Skeleten and his full live band. Skeleten is on track to make his North American debut next year - for updates and more, go here.

The Beatles and Online Ceramics commemorate 60th anniversary of Capitol Records partnership with capsule collection

CAPITOL RECORDS CELEBRATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF STORIED PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BEATLES THROUGH THE BEATLES X ONLINE CERAMICS CAPSULE COLLECTION
LAST BEATLES SONG “NOW AND THEN” RECEIVES TWO GRAMMY NOMINATIONS INCLUDING RECORD OF THE YEAR

The Beatles x Online Ceramics Capsule Collection by Travis Bailey
Pre-order: The Beatles x Online Ceramics https://Beatles.lnk.to/OnlineCeramics
(November 26th, 2024) - 1964 marked the first Beatles album released on Capitol with Meet The Beatles! on January 20th, the beginning of a prodigious 60-year partnership that resulted in a staggering 15 million albums sold that year alone. To commemorate the anniversary of Capitol’s label-defining relationship with The Beatles and the explosion of Beatlemania worldwide, Capitol Records announces an exclusive capsule collection between The Beatles and beloved cult brand Online Ceramics. The anniversary collection arrives alongside The Beatles: 1964 U.S. Albums In Mono vinyl box set, released November 22 by Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe, and Beatles ’64, an all-new documentary produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi, which will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning November 29. Today’s announcement is paired with a Julian Klincewicz promotional video viewable here.
On February 7th, 1964, scores of screaming fans gathered at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to catch a glimpse of John, Paul, George and Ringo as The Beatles took their first steps on American soil. Two nights later, on February 9th, 73 million viewers in the U.S. and millions more in Canada tuned in to CBS to watch The Beatles make their American television debut on The Ed Sullivan Show. In this cultural watershed moment in American history, The Beatles performed five songs on the live broadcast, returning later that same year for a month-long dash of 32 concerts across North America from August 19th - September 20th. “Beatlemania,” already in full, feverish bloom in The Beatles’ native U.K. and developing in the U.S., exploded with blissful fervor across America and around the world. The British Invasion had begun.
Shortly before The Beatles’ history-making Stateside visit, Capitol Records secured exclusive U.S. rights to release the band’s recordings in a deal with EMI setting the stage for the beginning of an iconic relationship. This led to 15 million Beatles records sold in 1964 alone, including 7 U.S. Top 40 singles, six Number 1s, six Top 10 albums including four Number 1s, and a blockbuster film (A Hard Day’s Night). It was a banner year for both Capitol Records and the band, even by The Beatles’ own “toppermost of the poppermost” standards.
The exclusive capsule collection highlights The Beatles’ timeless influence, reflected in this month’s two Grammy nominations for “Now and Then,” including for Record of the Year. Assets were provided to Online Ceramics from the Capitol and Apple Corps archives, including original tape reel images, internal documents, and historic photos. The resulting line incorporates handwritten mastering notes and tracklists from the original production master of A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Sound Track), and promotional photos from the band’s first North American tour and history-making performances on The Ed Sullivan Show. The collection also celebrates The Beatles’ U.S. albums released in 1964: Meet The Beatles!, The Beatles’ Second Album, A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Sound Track), Something New, The Beatles’ Story, and Beatles ’65. The designs are centered around the iconic Beatles logo, juxtaposed with the “record stack” tower of the historical landmark Capitol Records Building.
Starting today, Tuesday, November 26, the collection will be available for pre-order purchase via https://Beatles.lnk.to/OnlineCeramics.

Crime & the City Solution recently returned after a 10-year hiatus to release their sixth studio album, the killer , on Mute. Inspired by Bonney’s work delivering aid programmes, it looks at the ways conflict manifests in everyday life, and features tracks such as “Rivers of Blood”, “Brave Hearted Woman”, “Peace in my Time”, and “Witness”, which the band recently performed live for Le Cargo.
Formed in Sydney by Simon Bonney at the age of 16, Crime & the City Solution’s early performances from 1977-1979 had a big impact on key figures of the early Melbourne art-punk/post punk scene. In 1984, Bad Seed Mick Harvey shipped Bonney to England to form the London based Crime with their friend the brilliant and ever influential ex-Birthday Party guitarist Rowland S Howard, with his brother Harry Howard on bass and Epic Soundtracks on drums. The London incarnation, encapsulated by these two reissues, disbanded soon after their performance in “Wings of Desire”. Crime’s London alumni included the late Epic Soundtracks (co-founder of Swell Maps), Mick Harvey (who releases his sixth solo album, Five Ways to Say Goodbye in May), and brothers Rowland S. Howard and Harry Howard, who went on to form These Immortal Souls after their time with Crime (Get Lost (Don’t Lie!), I’m Never Gonna Die Again (1992) and new compilation EXTRA are out now Mute).
The first Berlin incarnation which followed is represented by three albums recently reissued on Mute - Shine (1988), The Bride Ship (1989) and Paradise Discotheque (1990), and the live album, The Adversary. Another 20 years would pass before the band, then based in Detroit, would return with their fifth studio album, American Twilight: “as much an elegy to the American Dream that's turned into a global nightmare as it is a damn fine rock & roll album” -The Quietus
Crime & the City Solution recently announced a book of selected lyrics, Love In A Time Of Violence, out now via Heartworm Press.

Spotify / Bandcamp PRAISE FOR GREG FREEMAN
"Some musicians make you wonder if what they’re doing is some sort of ironic mischief. Not Greg Freeman. He really means every word, bashing away on his electric guitar as bandmates on bass, drums, saxophone, and pedal steel guitar add rich colors to his visions."
- Rolling Stone
"There’s a certain Vermonter who made a really tremendous singer-songwriter record in 2022, and his name is Greg fucking Freeman—he also happens to be one of the best guitarists alive. I Looked Out is dripping with feedback, distorted by the reliquary of Florida men, sobering, end-times-ridden folklore and a Holy War of the interpersonal woven into the God-fearing and mysterious."
-Paste
"'The Celtic thrum of noise that kicks off his album is a bit of a red herring (it’s full of hopelessly addicting indie-rock bops), and while a track like “Colorado” is missing shoegaze tenets like “glide guitar,” the voluminous crescendos (packed in tight with warm, tattered horn blasts) create a shoegaze-like effect, and “Souvenir Heart” indeed uses the unmistakable yowl of a distorted ‘gaze guitar."
- Stereogum
"I’m late on this one — it’s my favorite album of 2022 that I discovered in 2023... It’s obvious that Freeman has worshipped at the altar of the late, great Jason Molina, though he also brings his own influences (particularly ’90s indie rock in the form of Neutral Milk Hotel and Guided By Voices) to the table. What I’m saying is that this is yet another blown-out country-rock record that sometimes delves into pure noise. (I can’t get enough of this formula lately.)"
- Uproxx
Vermont's finest, Greg Freeman, has recently signed with Canvasback/Transgressive Records. To celebrate this exciting partnership, his critically acclaimed debut LP, I Looked Out, is being re-released today, complete with two bonus tracks. The vinyl version is scheduled for release on January 17, 2025. This reissue features a new rendition of "Long Distance Driver (Acoustic)," which includes a special collaboration with Merce Lemon. Greg describes the track and accompanying video as a heartfelt exploration of... [insert your description here]. Additionally, the final bonus track, exclusive to the vinyl release, is a captivating mashup titled "Sound Tests, Scraps, Lists," which weaves together sounds, songs, and snippets collected during the creation of this masterful debut.
Greg on the track, "I wrote this song a few years ago, when the world was entering a scary and uncertain time, and hope seemed fleeting and very far in the distance. The song is about wanting to find connection in such a world. In a way, it feels like an old song to me at this point, but that place of uncertainty feels even more pronounced than when I wrote it. The acoustic version is just more sparse. There's a harmonica instead of a saxophone. There's no drums either. Merce does the high part and I do the low part. I also play the concertina in the recording. Our friend Nate Campisi recorded the song at Mr. Smalls studio in Pittsburgh (where we also recorded the video). It used to be an old church."
His noisy art-rock Americana will be put on display for his London debut at The Line Of Best Fit Show with Greg Mendez on January 15th in London.

The latter two songs were mixed by BJ Burton.

What People Are Saying About Father John Misty’s Mahashmashana:
“Josh Tillman is at his spiritual peak: The mood swings are wilder, the logic more tangential, and the songwriting might be the best it’s ever been.”
8.3/10 / “Best New Music,” Pitchfork
“Another great, mind-bending, soul-baring, melodically rich album.”
“Album of the Month” - ★★★★ MOJO
“Enthralling… he’s a fantastic writer in both terms of melody – all nine tracks bear a tune that’s both beautiful and beautifully constructed – and the scope of his musical ambitions.”
Album of the Week - ★★★★ The Guardian
“Striking a compelling balance between the epic and the intimate.”
★★★★½ DIY
“Mahashmashana is assured, emotive and luminous; Tillman (AKA Father John Misty’s) distinctive phrasing is magnificent and his melodies are gorgeous and this soul-baring record is set to be a firm favourite for both new fans and the existing congregation
that worship at the altar of Father John Misty.”
9/10, CLASH
“Another set of brilliant, beautiful songs… Tillman is an outstanding vocalist, a
master of phrasing and inflection.”
8/10, Uncut
“In terms of the nuts and bolts of songwriting—chord
progressions with a dramatic arc, melodies that get stuck in your head—he’s
never been better. Mr. Tillman has matured and mellowed, but he
remains a misanthrope full of surprises.”
Wall Street Journal
“On Mahashmashana, Misty wrestles with a reality that is confounding, off-kilter, even crazy, knowing it won’t end well. Root for him.”
Associated Press
“Josh Tillman’s sixth record might be the healthiest and most wisecrack-laden
thesis on the circle of life in recent memory.”
8.4/10, PASTE
“Wonderful… The melodies are gorgeous and the lyrics come with that special
umami of being precise yet elusive.”
★★★★ The Independent
“This is Father John Misty at his finest fuelled by uncompromised greatness.”
9/10, Far Out
“Ambitious and rich with emotion… the good Father can’t help but
share words of wisdom.”
★★★★ NME
“Father John Misty sweeps us off our feet with an album of dizzying
depth and magical magnificence.”
★★★★★ NARC
“Josh Tillman addresses mortality with wickedly expansive style on his sixth album. Flushed with wit and luminous melodies, his songcraft remains an inexhaustible pleasure.” ★★★★ Record Collector
“ These 50 minutes of music are simultaneously momentous and sublime…”
★★★★ Shindig
“Josh Tillman blends complexity and beauty into a cohesive, thought-provoking album.” 8.8/10, Northern Transmissions
“It’s an album filled with lush orchestrations, sly references to mortality and rebirth (to fit in with the album’s title) and songs that are unafraid to go on for, in some instances, over eight minutes. And, as ever with Tillman, it’s utterly compelling to listen to.”
★★★★½ MusicOMH
“Mahashmashana is unequivocally stunning.”
