Today, Do LaB have announced the music lineup for North America’s original boutique festival, Lightning in a Bottle, returning to Buena Vista Lake in Southern California during Memorial Day Weekend from May 21-25, 2025.

It's a place where outrageousness is currency and fun triumphs over all - a journey hand curated by the counterculturists and party-people of Do LaB, dotted with surprises that continually reimagine what a festival can mean to its attendees. It’s not just about catching Lightning, this is your chance to be the electricity you wish to see in the world and have the best time of your life in the process - are you ready?
Music curation is an art at LIB. The 2025 lineup is stacked with some of electronic music’s most sought after talent, but this festival isn’t just about names on a poster. The Do LaB crew have dedicated their lives to redefining how music is experienced, designing stage atmospheres that bring out the absolute best from their artists, inspire joy, and promote connection. One minute you are seeing your favorite artist in a larger than life stage environment, the next you are seeing them go B2B with an under-the-radar DJ on a small community stage late into the night. It's wild, it's unpredictable, and it's all waiting for you.
LIB’s 2025 music programming criss-crosses electronic genres du jour, spanning from indie-electronic, house, and techno, to UKG and dubstep. Highlight acts include crossover super producer Jamie xx, meteoric Chicago tech house sensation John Summit, the inimitable UK selector Four Tet, pioneering psychedelic funk trio Khruangbin, and Compton DJ and beatmaker Channel Tres.
Other top billing highlights include British powerhouse Shygirl presents Club Shy, riddim royalty Subtronics, breakout star Sammy Virji, German electro-dance producer Monolink, iconic and unifying dance figure The Blessed Madonna, trap titan TroyBoi, and the return of legendary house producer and Dirtybird founder Claude VonStroke.
Indie music shines through on the 2025 lineup with acts such as synth pop duo Magdalena Bay, one of the most vital voices in Alt R&B Amaarae, Brooklyn brightlights and Book Club Radio founders Tinzo + Jojo, Toro y Moi and Poolside alumn Brijean, hyper pop princess Audrey Nuna, and Tamil-Swiss vocalist Priya Ragu.
Additional highlights include euphoric UKG flagbearers salute and Interplanetary Criminal, the recent global underground triumphs of Joy Orbison, fashionable twin sister duo Coco & Breezy, Haitian house star Francis Mercier, newly formed power duo Girl Math (VNSSA & Nala), melodic maestros like Sultan + Shepard (DJ Set) and Tinlicker, and bass favorites Hamdi, Tape B, and PEEKABOO.
Rounding out the lineup, fans will be able to enjoy sets from Sama' Abdulhadi, Sofia Kourtesis, Chloé Caillet, Flowdan, and KILIMANJARO alongside the next generation of showstopping talent represented by SYREETA, BIIANCO, Sicaria, Bianca Oblivion, AHADADREAM, Mary Droppinz, Kito, and more.
LIB’s musical journey guides attendees from its wildly immersive core stages Lightning, Woogie, and Thunder, onwards to its community-driven programming at The Stacks, The Junkyard, and The Grand Artique. Each stage features its own unique aesthetic, vision, and sound, balancing fan-favorite bookings with a constant sense of discovery.
The immersive Compass area offers a diverse array of educational opportunities to engage the senses, expand the mind, and inspire community action with topics that include indigenous cultures, psychedelic medicine, climate change, love & relationships, healthy eating, and more. Attendees can learn from the past and present in order to better integrate, collaborate, and thrive in our world’s future.
Lightning in a Bottle offers both three day and five day ticket options, as well as hotel packages. The three day pass will be available as part of the general on sale, and makes the LIB experience more accessible to those who’d like to build their own adventure at their own pace.
Other packages available this year include the return of Easy Peasy Pre-Set Camping and Pre-Set RV options, taking away any of the stress of setting up camp upon arrival and instead being met with the convenience of having accommodations taken care of from the outset. VIP options will also be available for guests looking for the joy of a camping festival with an elevated experience. VIP pass holders can find reprieve in backstage lounges at Lightning, Thunder, and Woogie, grab refreshments in these areas at exclusive bars, enjoy special pop-up interactive experiences, and much more.

"One of [New York’s] most exciting up-and-coming bands..."
– Rolling Stone
"More than anything, their sound is engineered to make you move..."
– Creem Magazine
"TVOD are elbowing their way out of Brooklyn’s young and burgeoning post-punk scene and into the spotlight, expressive and raw in both stage presence and sonic output."
– Alternative Press
""Mantis" is a blast of driving no-frills punk, capturing both the band’s irrepressible persistent energy and their surprisingly sticky melodies. It very much encapsulates the punk ethos of loud, fast, and simple, with blaring guitars, machine-gun percussion, and jittery melodies driving the track forward."
– Under the Radar
"TVOD is hellbent on bathing in the blood of punk rock infamy, trudging their own path and cutting through the noise in the glow of artists like Iggy Pop, Viagra Boys, or Warmduscher. Drenched in beer and sweat, the uncontainable raw emotion you experience while the band’s on stage is not lost on recording, although it’s definitely not something you’ll want to miss."
– Twnty Three (23)
"The shows are pure energy, pure chaos, and we think you will love them. As a matter of fact, we highly encourage you to experience a show but warn that things can get pretty wild."
– Switch Bitch Noise
Release Bio:
Brooklyn-based rockers TVOD stand out with emotional, sometimes juvenile lyrics, paired with driving, catchy songs that never fail to get a crowd moving/moshing. Influenced by post-punk, egg punk and krautrock, TVOD effortlessly weave musical genres in a way that comes off seamlessly. “More than anything, their sound is engineered to make you move” (Creem Magazine). The brainchild of singer-songwriter Tyler Wright, the project draws from personal and external inspirations like the nightlife/music scene, heartaches, World War II, the untimely death of a beloved pet fish, and so on. TVOD’s vivid storytelling paints a gritty tongue-in-cheek picture of being a D.I.Y. artist grinding it out in NYC, complete with fabled tales about the degenerate lifestyle and all the good and the bad that comes with it.
TVOD gear up for their transatlantic trip to Les Trans Musicales (Rennes, FR) with the release of “Car Wreck”. Scheduled for December 3rd, 2024, this new track from the latest Mothland signees is the whole works: a krautrock-esque bassline and backbeat, fuzzed-out guitar licks, psychedelic synthesizer effects, as well as an absolute earworm of a melody in support of poignant lyrics about being reckless and embracing it. RIYL: Viagra Boys, Fountains D.C., Parquet Courts.
TVOD on the track, "Crash course derby with chronic guitar solos. You've always been crazy. This is just the first chance you've ever had to really express yourself. Félix Bélisle and Samuel Gemme co-produced the song. We were looking for somewhere to record and nothing was really speaking to us, until we heard La Sécurité’s debut, which they produced at Gamma Recording Studio in Montréal. We recorded over a couple trips from Brooklyn to Montréal, and slept on the floor at Mothland’s office and at the apartment of Turbo Haüs. "

2024.11.22 - Montréal, QC - M for Montreal (La Sala Rosa)
2024.12.06 - Rennes, FR - Les Trans Musicales (Parc Expo - Hall 8)
2025.03.10-15 - Austin, TX - SXSW (Official Artist) TVOD BIO:
TVOD (Brooklyn, NY) bloomed into existence in 2019 via a high-energy cassette full of punk songs recorded by Tyler Wright on a Tascam 4-track tape recorder in the basement of a D.I.Y. space he was living in. Since then, the band independently released two EPs – Daisy (2020) and Victory Garden (2021) – along with singles “Alien”, “Mantis”, “Goldfish”, and “Poppies”, as well as two limited run 45’s, Creem Magazine describing their sonic palette as “a nod to traditional post-punk bands like The Pixies as well as newer ones like Dry Cleaning”.
Known for their raw, unapologetic and unpredictable stage performances, TVOD have extensively toured the US, Canada and Europe, performing at major festivals like SXSW, Hopscotch, Sled Island, and Concrete Jungle, all the while sharing the stage with acts like Warmduscher, Snõõper, Gustaf, Civic, and Soul Glo. As written by Anna Zanes of Alternative Press, the 6-piece "are elbowing their way out of Brooklyn’s young and burgeoning post-punk scene and into the spotlight, expressive and raw in both stage presence and sonic output”. She adds: “Balancing reflective lyrics with rowdy live energy, TVOD embody the true ethos of punk rock, and never fail to open up a good pit".
To set in motion “one of [New York’s] most exciting up-and-coming bands” (Rolling Stone), Wright handpicked a standout lineup of Brooklyn freaks, and is now joined, both live and in the studio, by: Mem Pahl on drums, Micki Piccirillo on bass, Jenna Mark on synthesizers, as well as Serge Zbritzher and Denim Casimir on guitar duty. Fresh off recording with producers Félix Bélisle and Samuel Gemme at Gamma Recording Studio (Corridor, Population II, La Sécurité) in Montréal, Québec, TVOD are gearing up to release a new single entitled “Car Wreck” on December 3rd, 2024, their first via the Mothland imprint. Highly recommended for fans of alternative contemporaries like Viagra Boys, Fidlar or Jay Reatard, and punk classics such as Gang of Four or Wire.TVOD LINKS

Bonnie Trash announce new album 'Mourning You', out Feb 28 on Hand Drawn Dracula. Single "Veil of Greed" online now.
BONNIE TRASH- Announce new album ‘Mourning You’
- Out February 28th on Hand Drawn Dracula
- Share new single & video “Veil of Greed”

‘Mourning You’ is, put bluntly, an album about death. Not death in the macabre, violent, or outrageous sense, but death as you or I might know it. A spectre lurking around the corner. Capricious, indiscriminate, and unexpected. Ordinary and all the more terrifying for it. Real. Fear in the eyes of a loved one about to die, and the fear in your eyes – staring back.
Bonnie Trash is the horrorgaze project of twin sisters Emmalia & Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor, wedding post-punk's steely-eyed austerity to goth rock's brooding grandeur.
‘Mourning You’ finds Bonnie Trash embracing a newfound sense of urgency. A lifelong project christened in 2017 with the release of ‘Ezzelini's Dead’, the band's debut EP which found the pair mining the Trevisan dialect and archaic Italian folklore of their heritage to grisly effect. Where their first full length, ‘Malocchio’ (2022), shrouded Bonnie Trash's nightmares in dusky dreamlike reverb, ‘Mourning You’ is vivid and immediate. Emboldened by the addition of Emma Howarth-Withers on bass and Dana Bellamy on drums – whose thunderous rhythms sharpened 2024's ‘My Love Remains the Same’ EP into a fine-edged blade – ‘Mourning You’ is less a post-mortem fantasia than a sudden, swift dagger to the heart. This is sorrow not as a lingering bruise, but a gushing wound.
Bonnie Trash unveil their new project with this first single “Veil of Greed”. Emmalia's gripping and unyielding guitar riff with all the icy malice of Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine introduces the urgency of the uncomfortably ordinary horror story that unfurls across the record. The song's gruesome imagery – feasting on hearts with rotten teeth – finds Sarafina worshipping at the altar of her agony. "I bow down before you and I know / You feed."
“When you lose the one you love so dearly, it’s a cut that’s so deep, it rips your heart out of your chest. You try to continue on, but you suffer and you bleed” the twins comment. “Grief is like an open wound that will never fully heal. It can consume you if you let it. Sometimes, it’s best to let it feed, allowing the pain to exist with the beautiful memories you hold close to your heart.”

Sarafina, the band's singer and lyricist, has described the album as being about "losing someone you love. It's about the horrors of grief, haunting you every day." Inspired, largely, by the passing of Nonna Maria – who provided interstitial narration across the band's early work – it's these intimate details which render the songs on ‘Mourning You' so devastating. The record explores love and grief as kindred spirits. Grief as love with nowhere to go. Love determined by the fear of its loss. A blood pact. A life for a life. The gnarled claw of remorse gripping you in twilight's terror.
Though inspired by the shocking iconography of horrorshows, slasher flicks, and psychological thrillers, Bonnie Trash turns cinematic tropes on their head. Rather than fashioning nightmares into reality, the band paints reality as a nightmare, rife with pain, suffering, and gothic theatre. Bonnie Trash understands that everyday atrocities haunt the periphery of our lives. A black cloud looming on the edge of our vision. Curses abound. You can't ward them off. You'd best make an unholy racket.
‘Mourning You’ is out February 28, 2025 on Hand Drawn Dracula. In mourning, all is lost.

1. Grief
2. Veil of Greed - official video

Singles: “ Light On ” “ Second Dimension ” “ Look Good ” “ We Can Move Along "
One of the most dynamic rock bands to emerge in the aughts, White Denim will release their hotly anticipated twelfth studio album aptly titled 12 this Friday, December 6 via Bella Union. The new collection takes a radical step into funk & garage rock and has already earned acclaim spanning Under The Radar, Relix, Jambase and Northern Transmissions. with radio airplay at KCRW, WFMU, WRUW, WXPN, KUTX and more! Fans can also tune in to NPR Into Music podcast for their episode with James Petralli December 5. Today, the band shares the official video for final album preview track "We Can Move Along" which revels in Petralli’s belief in the possibility of love enduring in a nourishing long-term relationship. He shares, “The music for ‘We Can Move Along’ was written by Matt Young. I suspect he was referencing Bowie's last record and maybe In Rainbows when he was composing but I haven't really asked. I tried to serve the parts and add complimentary textures in my production and arrangement. I like the ambiguity in my lyric-it doesn't hide anything but also doesn't offer a clean resolution. To me this reflects life more accurately than is typical in a song.”
Watch / Share: “We Can Move Along” Video
White Denim exploded out of Austin, Texas in ’08 with hyper-kinetic post-punk bangers and Petralli duly raced on through shifting line-ups and kaleidoscopic shades of soul, jazz and Southern rock, always with a feel of in-the-moment authenticity. Sonically and stylistically influenced by Nick Lowe, Jonathan Richman, Doug Sahm and Joe Jackson, 12 is the thrilling sound of Petralli vacating his low-tech comfort zone while documenting a turbulent and sometimes painful period for his family. As for so many musicians, the pandemic forced Petralli to radically rethink homelife and his creative process. Back in Austin, he and his partner Elaine were caring for her father, who passed in Spring ’21. After relocating to Los Angeles, he took on the role of home-schooling his kids, fitting in writing sessions when he could. With its yacht rock-esque uplifting melodies, the new collection is a direct response to some of these “turbulent times” refracted through the glass-half-full sunshine prism of Petralli’s worldview.
Dead Boy Cheetah Chrome Clears The Air

Dead Boy Cheetah Chrome Clears The Air
Los Angeles, California – Following a whirlwind week of anger, misinformation, speculation and misunderstandings surrounding the forthcoming Dead Boys album, guitarist and co-founder Cheetah Chrome is setting the record straight in an exclusive interview with PunkNews.org.
The new, yet-to-be-titled album, recorded alongside longtime friends and punk legends Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Clem Burke (Blondie), and James Williamson (the Stooges), has sparked a storm of controversy. At the center of the debate is the claim by a former touring band member that the album employs artificial intelligence (A.I.) to "bring back" the band’s iconic frontman Stiv Bators.
But, as Cheetah explains, “All I wanted to do was celebrate the days of CBGBs—when punk was punk.”
In his conversation with PunkNews publisher John Gentile, Cheetah addressed the issue head-on, stating:
“The time to stop A.I. was back in 1990! Nobody should have ever bought a cellphone. It’s been a component in society for like 30 years! You can adapt and use it in legitimate ways.”
And that’s exactly what Cheetah has done. He revealed the story behind the album’s use of technology:
“We [found] a song called ‘You Don’t Really Love Me.’ It’s Stiv’s last full song that sounds like a performance. It sounds like it’s a record. After that, there’s nothing. We used A.I. to restore Stiv’s vocals. We didn’t cut or paste or edit it. We only used A.I. to restore it and put it in the mix so you can hear it.
“I don’t want to just fake someone’s performance. I can’t have that.”
The integration of A.I. on this album has sparked comparisons to other groundbreaking moments in music history, such as the Mellotron replacing orchestras, the advent of sampling, and the rise of digital recording. As Cleopatra Records founder Brian Perera puts it:
“The Dead Boys should be celebrated for making history as the first punk act to embrace A.I. Just like punk thrived on pissing off grown-ups, this move challenges the status quo.
“This isn’t about replacing the past—it’s about preserving it. It’s about honoring the chaotic, untamed legacy of a frontman who defined an era. For a band like the Dead Boys, who thrived on pushing boundaries, this is the ultimate act of rebellion. They’re using A.I. to do what punk has always done best: make people uncomfortable, start conversations, and create something unforgettable.
“When people are mad, it means you’re onto something. When they say, ‘That’s not real music,’ it means you’re pushing boundaries. That’s the spirit of rock ’n’ roll. That’s the ethos of punk—and it’s exactly what the Dead Boys have always believed. If you’re not making people uncomfortable, you’re not doing it right.”
And the Dead Boys? They’ve always done it right.
The band’s new album, scheduled for release in 2025, will crown a series of acclaimed archival releases showcasing their fiery legacy during 1977-78. These include electrifying live recordings from CBGBs in New York (the legendary “Dead Dolls” show) and San Francisco, as well as early sessions for their second LP, We Have Come For Your Children, and more.
CHECK OUT THE DEAD BOYS HERE: https://cleorecs.com/search?q=dead+bo...
Adding to the excitement, Cheetah Chrome has teamed up with modern punk icons 69 Eyes for a blistering new rendition of the Dead Boys’ classic anthem “Sonic Reducer,” available now on 7-inch vinyl and all streaming platforms.
psych-shoegazers STRANGE LOT share hypnotic "It's Always You"
PSYCH-SHOEGAZERS STRANGE LOT SHARE HAZY & HYPNOTIC NEW TRACK "IT'S ALWAYS YOU"
WATCH THE MUSIC VIDEO HERE, FT. VISUAL EFFECTS FROM TACHYONS+ (TAME IMPALA, ALIEN)

STRANGE LOT — the Austin-based band whose “Western-sun-scorched take on psych-rock” (KUTX) has garnered a local cult following — share a new track and music video today. Listen to “It’s Always You” here and watch the music video here.
“It’s Always You” imbues STRANGE LOT’s signature, droning psychedelic sound with swirling shoegaze guitar, heavy garage percussion, and reverb that’s as dream-like as the lyrics singing through it. The track oozes with shades of Thee Oh Sees, Dungen, The Horrors, all coming together under one hazy rainbow.
The music video for “It’s Always You” takes all sound into consideration, as the visual effects — made by Tachyons+, the mind behind Tame Impala’s live visuals and the glitch effects for the latest Alien film — create a polychromatic world around the track.
Watch the music video for “It’s Always You,” directed by Stellina Stampouli, here.
Today’s single is pulled from an upcoming debut album that boasts some big-time collaborators: production from The Black Angels' Alex Maas, mixing from Spoon’s Jim Eno, and mastering from GRAMMY-winner Howie Weinberg who’s worked with Smashing Pumpkins, Prince, and Nirvana.
Earlier this year, ahead of a ripping Levitation Fest set and fresh from supporting The Boogarins throughout Texas, STRANGE LOT released a live session with more tracks from the album — watch it over at FLOOD here.
STRANGE LOT began as the bedroom project of singer/guitarist Dominic Mena in Phoenix before moving to Austin in 2019. The band has grown into the present lineup of Dominic Mena, Tim Lormor, bass guitarist Nate Hahn, and Jordan Fitzpatrick on synthesizer and guitar. They’ve opened for The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus and Mary Chain, A Place to Bury Strangers, and Kikagaku Moyo — a tidy collection of acts that triangulates their sound.
"It's Always You" is out now, stream it here.

A note from Cat Clyde:
“This summer, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, I had the pleasure of performing at Rare Bird farm. Pulling into the property I was welcomed and held by the big hills and cool creek. Farrah and Mitchell, owners and caretakers of the land had arranged for me to perform looking out into the big hills tucked into the open barn whilst the audience sat on blankets with tea, and dogs roamed and played. We recorded the set as the sun fell behind the hills.
My time in Western North Carolina, driving through the winding roads and witnessing the beautiful forests, swimming in the rivers, and walking the trails held great beauty and magic for me. There lives in this space a community that cultivates and calls in deep appreciation for sharing music and keeping Appalachian traditions alive.
Returning in autumn, I was able to witness the devastation and aftermath left over from Hurricane Helene. The old river, and big winds destroying homes, buildings, roads, and anything else laid in the path. The resilience and coming together of the community was inspiring after such destruction. I wanted to share this recorded performance, captured in the Blue Ridge mountains to contribute to hurricane relief for the people and community of Western North Carolina. I am grateful for my time spent there, and hope that the people of this beautiful area can continue to work with one another to rebuild and grow again.”
About Rare Bird Farm: This album was recorded live at Rare Bird Farm, home of Rare Bird Cultural Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to fostering community, creativity, and connection through the preservation of Appalachian folk traditions and the celebration of diverse artistic expressions. Our mission is to provide a platform for artists of all backgrounds and abilities, while offering enriching cultural experiences that inspire and unite.

Through their programs they address food insecurity, the sustainability of the local food system and the health and wellbeing of the whole person. Using its substantial network of relationships in the community, Bounty & Soul has also provided relief, recovery and rebuilding support to the hardest hit communities left devastated by Hurricane Helene. Bounty & Soul was boots on the ground the day of the storm, mobilizing quickly to bring food and supplies to Swannanoa, Fairview and Black Mountain. Within a couple of days, volunteers and staff were distributing 2000 hot meals per day in 19 communities in partnership with World Central Kitchen. They have also provided tens of thousands of pounds of critical supplies like pet food, diapers, heaters, bedding, clothing, appliances, hygiene kits, cleaning supplies, PPE, and many other vital household items. They continue to this day to provide vital supplies to hard-hit communities that continue to experience the devastating effects of this catastrophic event. In addition to supplying fresh food to chefs and distributors of hot meals, they also purchase fresh produce for distribution through their Farmers Market Truck and community markets, reaching multiple areas across the county. This ensures consistent access to fresh, nutritious food, especially in the hardest-hit communities like Swannanoa.

December 2, 2024 – Florida rockers The Haunt, comprised of siblings Anastasia Grace Haunt [vocals] and Maxamillion “Max” Haunt [vocals, guitar, production], offer a dose of catharsis on “Going Under. The intense track features raw, electrifying vocals and pummeling instrumentation from the sibling duo. Listen HERE.
"’Going Under’ is about a vicious, brutal cycle, one that is overwhelming. It’s also about the strange disconnected feeling you can get while trying to succeed,” they explain.
“Going Under” follows a string of powerful singles, including the chaos-embracing tracks “Bad Omen” and “New Addiction,” the introspective “Can People Really Change?” (featuring MISSIO), and the haunting “Masochistic Lovers” featuring Craig Mabbitt of Escape the Fate. Each track builds on The Haunt’s signature blend of hard-hitting rock and dynamic collaborations, all hinting at the much-anticipated release of their upcoming full-length album. Stay tuned for more details.

The Haunt is kicking off 2025 with headline shows in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, starting January 18th. Fans can expect to hear new material from their forthcoming album live for the very first time, along with crowd favorites from their previous releases. Tickets are available to purchase HERE.
The Haunt Headline Tour Dates:
January 18 - New York, NY - Mercury Lounge
January 23 - Chicago, IL - The Joint
January 25 - Los Angeles, CA - The Moroccan Lounge (early show)
At 12-years-old, Anastasia started to play gigs while collaborating with her brother Max. Together, they launched The Haunt in 2018. They gained traction with the fan favorite “Cigarettes & Feelings,” and again in 2021 with “Love You Better” off the Social Intercourse EP. Along the way, they shared stages with Palaye Royale, The Hu, The Struts, Filter, and more. 2023’s Dead On Arrival EP received praise from Substream, stating how “the band is coming into their own and creating a safe space for their fans with their powerful messages.” Throughout 2023, they carefully assembled what would become Do No Resuscitate, which was released April 2024 to rave reviews from the likes of Outburn, Cryptic Rock, and Distorted Sound, just to name a few. Now, the band is trudging ahead with a heavier sound and a new batch of music.

New LP Wish Defense— the final album engineered by Steve Albini— out February 7 on Trouble In Mind

On their sixth studio album Wish Defense (incoming Feburary 7, 2025 on Trouble In Mind Records), Chicago trio FACS take a good, long look in the mirror to face themselves. The group's guitarist/vocalist Brian Case notes that the album's lyrics evolve around doppelgängers or "doubles,” tackling the idea of facing yourself and observing your ideas and motivations.
Today, FACS have revealed the album's second single, "Desire Path" alongside a striking black and white visualizer. Echoing the album's cover art, checkerboards everywhere are offset reflections of themselves.

On Wish Defense, the return of FACS original member Jonathan Van Herik— who stepped away from the group just before their debut album Negative Houses was released, and replacing longtime bassist Alianna Kalaba— brings renewed vigor and a marked angularity from the band’s more recent output. The songs still hit hard, but the approach is sideways; the roles have changed since Van Herik’s original tenure and his previous time with Case and powerhouse drummer Noah Leger in Disappears; now on bass, Van Herik was originally the group’s guitar player and features on the debut, while current guitarist Brian Case played bass. This role reversal has helped the band’s dynamic, offering up a different musical perspective than before, now revisiting the trio’s long-going collaboration with some distance and time.
A final note: Wish Defense is the last album engineered by Steve Albini. Two days were recorded at Electrical Audio in early May of 2024 before Steve’s untimely passing, with renowned engineer and friend Sanford Parker stepping in to finish the session 24 hours later, tracking the last bits of vocals and overdubs. Longtime collaborator John Congleton mixed the album as Albini would have, in Electrical Audio’s A room, off the tape, using Albini’s notes about the session.
Wish Defense will be released on February 7, 2025 on compact disc, cassette, black vinyl and a limited white vinyl variant while supplies last [pre-order]. See FACS on tour in Europe throughout February and in select markets in North America in April.
