MASMA DREAM WORLD Announces New Album & Shares Title Track "PLEASE COME TO ME"

MASMA DREAM WORLD

ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM & SHARES TITLE TRACK

LISTEN | WATCH

PLEASE COME TO ME

OUT FEBRUARY 21ST VIA

VALLEY OF SEARCH

“A startlingly engaging collection.. informed by place but remains enchantingly placeless.. Mambouka has created something astonishing” - The Wire on debut album Play at Night

Masma Dream World by Cian O’Day

Today, Masma Dream World has announced her new album, PLEASE COME TO ME, due out February 21st via Valley of Search, and shared the record's title track. The experimental project led by Devi Mambouka, Masma Dream World turned heads with her 2020 debut Play at Night, a record that established the multi-instrumentalist as a singular voice, combining field recordings, throttling bass, skittering electronics and traditional Gabonese rhythms for an awe inspiring, transportative sound. “PLEASE COME TO ME” is an invitation to a private ritual of healing, an invocation to the mother of the universe and a communion with the unseen world. To celebrate the release, Masma Dream World will perform at New York’s Public Records on February 20th. She’ll be joined by the Zola Jesus Noise Project NIKA for a night of Para Shakti, celebrating "Ultimate Feminine Power." Tickets HERE.

On the single, Devi explains she is “Calling for Mother in the darkness of this existence, desperately yearning for her to come to me.”

With roots in Gabon and Singapore, Mambouka is a child of the world. She recalls rainforest rituals and the presence of ghosts and spirits throughout her childhood in Gabon before immigrating to The Bronx. Here, instead of forests, she lost herself in record stores and began a spiritual, educational journey, DJing and immersing herself in NYC’s nightlife. A former Catholic school student, she studied religions of all kinds but found her guides in magic, maternal Hindu ancestors, the Black Madonna and Kali, the Hindu goddess of creation and destruction, and the mother of the forgotten ones.

PLEASE COME TO ME was culled from sessions over the course of two weekends with no specific concept in mind, but the result was years in the making, time focused on deepening her spirituality through meditation, Hindu mysticism, and Advaita Vedantic texts. At the same time, she was learning the craft, training in sound therapy, audio engineering, and sound design. The technical developing alongside the spiritual, the electronic with the natural. Her father was from the indigenous Bahoumbou tribe of Gabon, while her mother is Bengali and Cantonese from Singapore. Her influences are global in scope. The mystical experiences of her travels are incorporated into the music; the church bells in Pordenone, Italy, appear on “Pordeno Me.” While in Rocamadour, France, she had a powerful healing experience after seeing La Vierge Noire (the Black Madonna) and had the urge to sing. While walking through a cave, the spirits led her to record her voice, so she pulled out her phone. That recording appears on “The Island Where the Goddess Lives” and the sound is echoey and distant, reversed language going back through time. There are field recordings from her visits with her family in Singapore and the temples and rice paddy fields of Bali.

In the isolation of a bitter Wisconsin winter surrounded by the Northwoods, her connections to the spiritual unseen world deepened. When she returned to her mother’s apartment in New York City, she stumbled upon old, damaged tapes of spiritual lectures from her late aunt’s collection and saw it as a sign to begin work on the album.

This past October, Devi shared her first Masma Dream World single since her 2020 debut, the thunderous and ceremonial “Ancient DNA,” and her first for the venerable Valley of Search, the experimental label run by Nabil Ayers and home to Alan Braufman, Patricia Brennan, and Tomas Nordmark.

Listening to Masma Dream World is bearing witness to a personal journey through hell and back. “In the darkest corners of isolation, pain, and despair, my cries for my mother echoed into the abyss,” she shares, “Instead of succumbing to the void, I was found by the goddess, who saved me from my final attempt to escape this mortal coil.”

With her debut album Play at Night she tapped into those experiences, molding her pain and trauma into music. Her past informs and feeds the sound of her present. Inspired by her training in the Japanese spirit-led performance art of butoh, the album is a theta-wave meditation encompassing multiple cultures and languages. Beats and bells, chants and wails, it’s the music of a mystical practice all her own.

LISTEN TO PREVIOUS SINGLE “ANCIENT DNA

The story of Masma Dream World begins with a recurring nightmare that began when she was six. In the dream, she wandered through a hellish landscape engulfed in smoke and darkness. Monstrous figures emerged from the shadows, and she opened her mouth in terror. The demons burst into flames at the sound of her voice, but it was a voice she couldn’t hear, and that’s what frightened her most.

Mambouka holds a gothic love affair with the darkness, the mysteries, walking right up to the abyss and peeking inside with awe and curiosity. She doesn’t run from pain, but straight towards it and through, using it as a tool for creation and transcendence. She walks alongside the ghosts and sings to them. Music for the shadow world. Songs you experience, not just listen to. It demands participation. MDW reaches deep-down to the interior of herself at its most vulnerable, proving that sorrow can be transformative, and music can heal. The once silent voice of her childhood nightmares is loud and clear now, a voice that can set fire to monsters.

“20 years ago my life as an artist took shape when my first record was released,” Martha recalls. “In many ways that record defined me, as well as launched me into a now over 20 year long career that has made me who I am. It was after 10 years of playing in bars, making cassettes and EPs to sell at my shows, singing backup for my brother Rufus, falling in love and out of love, practising, writing, singing until I could barely sing anymore, partying, playing with musicians and listening to great artists, working with my ex-husband in the studio for 2 years, all that created this first record.”

“20 years later, with 6 other albums under my belt, 2 kids and a career that is chugging along, I can safely say my first record paved my way forward. On March 21st we will release the record on vinyl for the first time ever as well as digitally release unheard songs, outtakes and early material from that 10 year period of discovery that led to my first record. There will be a tour with a few great musicians, where I’ll play the record in its entirety as well as a few new songs- there’s no 48 year old me with the 28 year old me.”

This fall’s Soul Coughing Play The Songs Of Soul Coughing was met with critical applause and unprecedented popular demand that saw a number of dates upgraded to larger venues. “The songs sounded as forward-thinking as they did in the ’90s,” declared Variety of the tour’s opening night performance at a sold-out Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA. “For those that care, every one of these shows…just might be one of the best nights ever.” “Soul Coughing, in a word, delivered,” wrote Glide. “The 21-song setlist digs deep into the band’s short-lived yet fruitful career as they fearlessly bounced between their three releases, touching on hits and B-sides alike.” Perhaps Philadelphia, PA’s WXPN said it best: “It was a moment that truly felt special to witness, experiencing the performance of a band that no one believed would ever reunite on stage… a niche moment in music history.”

Soul Coughing further marked the reunion with their first late-night TV appearance since 1998, offering up a celebratory performance of their classic “Super Bon Bon” on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! that prompted Stereogum to enthuse, “Soul Coughing were fully locked-in… all these years later, absolutely nobody sounds like them, and their form of musical chemistry is so specific.”

Innovative Mongolian rock group and global phenomenon THE HU will continue to dominate audiences worldwide in 2025 as they today (December 10) announce dates for the European leg of their headlining “Incarnation” World Tour. Set to kick off in early June, the tour will coincide with a series of shows with THE HU supporting Scandinavian folk outfit Heilung on the band’s final tour. THE HU will also appear on several of Europe’s largest heavy music festivals during the run including Hellfest and Graspop Metal Meeting. See full dates listed below. Tickets are on sale this Friday, December 13 via THE HU’s website HERE.

THE HU recently released a ‘hunnu rock’-styled take on Iron Maiden’s classic single “The Trooper.” It was aligned with the start of their North American tour directly supporting the metal legends earlier this fall. Stream the “raucous, adrenaline-fueled” (NME) cover now HERE and watch the music video HERE. “If they had amplification in ‘Game of Thrones,’ there would have been a band like this,’ exclaimed Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (11/8/24). “The Hu is described as folk-metal but they sounded a lot more like Motörhead or Metallica while mixing in traditional string instruments the morin khuur and tovshuur, with throat-singing growls and howls on top.”

THE HU have brought Mongolian music to the forefront with their unique brand of Hunnu Rock which blends traditional Mongolian instrumentation and throat singing with contemporary rock music. With over 830 million all-time streams, 330 million video views, #1 charting albums, multiple sold-out headlining tours, prestigious government honors and awards, collaborations with several of rock’s biggest names, and featured music on video games including EA Games’ Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, THE HU have cemented their status as a global powerhouse.

Stream PRAISE FOR GREG FREEMAN

"Some musicians make you wonder if what they’re doing is some sort of ironic mischief. Not Greg Freeman. He really means every word, bashing away on his electric guitar as bandmates on bass, drums, saxophone, and pedal steel guitar add rich colors to his visions."
-
Rolling Stone

"There’s a certain Vermonter who made a really tremendous singer-songwriter record in 2022, and his name is Greg fucking Freeman—he also happens to be one of the best guitarists alive. I Looked Out is dripping with feedback, distorted by the reliquary of Florida men, sobering, end-times-ridden folklore and a Holy War of the interpersonal woven into the God-fearing and mysterious."
-Paste

"'The Celtic thrum of noise that kicks off his album is a bit of a red herring (it’s full of hopelessly addicting indie-rock bops), and while a track like “Colorado” is missing shoegaze tenets like “glide guitar,” the voluminous crescendos (packed in tight with warm, tattered horn blasts) create a shoegaze-like effect, and “Souvenir Heart” indeed uses the unmistakable yowl of a distorted ‘gaze guitar."

Stereogum

"I’m late on this one — it’s my favorite album of 2022 that I discovered in 2023... It’s obvious that Freeman has worshipped at the altar of the late, great Jason Molina, though he also brings his own influences (particularly ’90s indie rock in the form of Neutral Milk Hotel and Guided By Voices) to the table. What I’m saying is that this is yet another blown-out country-rock record that sometimes delves into pure noise. (I can’t get enough of this formula lately.)"
Uproxx

Greg Freeman's I Looked Out Re-release has officially made its mark, with his album debuting at #12 and his song "Colorado" at #15 on the Official SubModern Top 25 charts. With two tracks featured in the same charting period, Freeman's album has secured a spot among the top performers in the genre.

Vermont's finest, Greg Freeman, has recently signed with Canvasback/Transgressive Records. To celebrate this exciting partnership, his critically acclaimed debut LP, I Looked Out, was re-released, complete with two bonus tracks. The vinyl version is scheduled for release on January 17, 2025. This reissue features a new rendition of "Long Distance Driver (Acoustic)," which includes a special collaboration with Merce Lemon. Additionally, the final bonus track, exclusive to the vinyl release, is a captivating mashup titled "Sound Tests, Scraps, Lists," which weaves together sounds, songs, and snippets collected during the creation of this masterful debut.

Greg on the track, "I wrote this song a few years ago, when the world was entering a scary and uncertain time, and hope seemed fleeting and very far in the distance.  The song is about wanting to find connection in such a world.  In a way, it feels like an old song to me at this point, but that place of uncertainty feels even more pronounced than when I wrote it.  The acoustic version is just more sparse.  There's a harmonica instead of a saxophone.  There's no drums either.  Merce does the high part and I do the low part.  I also play the concertina in the recording.  Our friend Nate Campisi recorded the song at Mr. Smalls studio in Pittsburgh (where we also recorded the video).  It used to be an old church."

Greg Freeman’s album I Looked Out has been garnering praise from notable critics, with Steven Hyden of UPROXX calling it “my favorite album of 2022 that I discovered in 2023,” and  Paste Magazine  naming it among the 25 Best Debut Albums of the 2020s. The magazine went further, hailing it as “one of the best rock records of this generation.”

His noisy art-rock Americana will be put on display for his London debut at The Line Of Best Fit Show with Greg Mendez on January 15th in London and in New York at Union Pool with Ekko on January 25th.

Tickets for these dates are on sale now. Find more information and tickets HERE.

Panchiko Announce US Tour 2025

PANCHIKO ANNOUNCE US + CANADA HEADLINE TOUR FOR SPRING / SUMMER 2025

SUPPORT FROM MODEL/ACTRIZ, ALISON'S HALO, KITTY CRAFT, TANUKICHAN, CLINIC STARS, AND FLYINGFISH

GINKGO ALBUM DUE APRIL 4

PRAISE FOR PANCHIKO

"a genuine sensation... a dose of dreamy art rock that kinda sounds like the more ethereal, trippy side of Radiohead, and it’s something that Panchiko do very well."
Brooklyn Vegan

"fiery"
UPROXX

"If you’re in the market for atmospheric, Thom Yorke-esque music, “Ginkgo” is bound to become your next obsession.”
Consequence

"a spaced-out reverie"
Stereogum

Today, Panchiko announce a 2025 headline tour across the US and Canada, featuring support from Model/Actriz, Alison's Halo, Kitty Craft, Tanukichan, Clinic Stars, and Flyingfish. The tour will follow the April 4, 2025 release of the band's album Ginkgo (Nettwerk). Pre-save Ginkgo here; tickets will go on sale Friday, December 13th at 10am local time here.

As 90s kids in the city of Nottingham, Panchiko played shows to nearly empty rooms and eventually set aside the hope of becoming full-time musicians to pursue other careers. That was true until 2020, after discovering that an internet user found Panchiko’s discarded 2000 demo CD, D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, in a Nottingham charity shop, posted it to 4chan in 2016, and effectively made their long let-go-of dreams imperative to pursue.

With the new album, Panchiko rediscovers and expands upon its beloved sound. The original rawness and fine grit of the demo CD remain but with an even more varied palette. Across the record, we hear moments reminiscent of ELO's electronic, chromatic playfulness, OK Computer-esque, brainy theatricality, and even bits of Rage Against The Machine's hip-hop flow.

Fans at Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence, Fader, Uproxx, Stereogum, The Guardian, Bandcamp, and more have been fascinated by the band's story and blown away by their sound. Over the past year, they've reached 90M streams on Spotify alone, with their following on the platform growing by 160k in the same amount of time; they've sold out major venues in NYC (Brooklyn Steel), Los Angeles (The Novo), DC (9:30 Club), and so many more – doubling the size of venue they play in the span of two years – with a major festival appearance at Levitation this fall. They just wrapped up a tour across the US, with more upcoming dates in the US / EU / UK in Spring 2025. Routing below.

Panchiko — now composed of original members Andy Wright (keyboardist and producer) and Owain Davies (vocalist and guitarist), alongside new members guitarist Robert Harris, bassist Shaun Ferreday, and drummer John Schofield — pursued their new path with vigor. Upon discovering their virality in 2020, they toured the world and wrote, recorded, and released their first album in 20+ years, 2023’s Failed At Maths. But after the thrill of the whirlwind came a new question. What comes next when your dreams come true? The answer is Gingko, a 13-track project that finds the band making some of their most introspective, cinematic, and moving music yet.

Plastikman 30th Anniversary Edition Of 'Musik' Is Out Now On NovaMute

PLASTIKMAN MUSIK
30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

OUT NOW ON NOVAMUTE

VINYL REISSUE OF RICHIE HAWTIN’S REVERED
SECOND ALBUM AS PLASTIKMAN
REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPES

The 30th Anniversary vinyl edition of Plastikman’s Musik, the groundbreaking second studio album by Richie Hawtin as Plastikman, is out now on NovaMute.

The album, originally released via NovaMute / Plus 8, followed 1993’s Sheet One and propelled Hawtin into new levels of international success. On its initial release, in Nov 1994, Hawtin was central to a burgeoning underground scene in Detroit, and the album, which expands on his unique and innovative minimal techno world, was launched with Plastikman’s first ever live performance in Aug 1994, at the derelict Packard Plant in Detroit, in a room encased in black plastic sheets.

Listen to the full album HERE.

Before the full album hit the shelves, “Plastique” (later described by Q as “… the flipside to Hawtin’s early singles, all ticking percussion, feline acid tweaks and cushioned sub bass”), set the stage for a more dance floor friendly album, albeit one with an unsettling and sinister side.

Musik, which featured tracks such as “Freek”, “Kriket” (which Raf Simons used earlier this year in the Prada Men Spring/Summer 2025 show), “Fuk” and “Marbles”, was soon heard by a much wider audience.  Plastikman live appearances at Glastonbury, Tribal Gathering and a headline slot at Megadog followed soon after, prompting NME to declare Plastikman to be "Fiercer than Orbital, funkier than the Prodigy and more insatiably danceable than anything else on the bill."

The album, described by The Guardian as “music as you've never heard it before” and by The Wire, who made it one of their Albums of the Year, as “… a masterpiece”, defined a moment in techno that still echoes today.

Now, 30 years later, to mark its anniversary, the album has been remastered from the original tapes, reminding us why Plastikman is a name that still resonates and that the album’s intensity, on and off the dance floor, has lost none of its potency in the intervening years.

Born in Oxfordshire, Hawtin’s family moved to Canada when he was nine. Growing up he was heavily influenced by both his father's diverse record collection and his own acute curiosity for everything electronic, watching from an early age as his father dismantled various electronic devices, rebuilding and modifying them in front of his son's eyes. It was inevitable that his passions for music, technology and computers would be finally drawn together, and upon hearing the early sounds of Detroit Techno and Chicago Acid House on Jeff Mills' late ‘80s Detroit radio show, he found his direction. Traveling between his hometown of Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Plastikman helmed some of the most intense, mind-bending parties underground electronic music has ever known.

Last year was the 30th anniversary of his debut album as Plastikman, Sheet One, and Dimension Intrusion by his alter ego F.U.S.E. for the Artificial Intelligence series on WARP, another incredible milestone for Richie Hawtin. His award-winning, prolific career to date has seen him become one of the most important techno DJs globally, a technological wizard with decades of innovations behind him, a label head for both Plus 8, with John Acquaviva and M_nus, the PLAYdifferently mixer / technology company, as well as a growing career in the sake industry with his ENTER.Sake brand and the Sake 36 emporium in Berlin. Over the last thirty years, and often as Plastikman, Hawtin has collaborated with some of the cultural world’s leading creative figures including Raf Simons, Anish Kapoor, Andreas Gursky and John Gerrard.

album artThe album explores themes of family, aging, motherhood and more, all with Lindhome’s trademark wit and dark humor.Lindhome notes, “I’m so excited to release my first solo album, No Worries if Not. With this album, I wanted to bring humor to some of the more personal, historically isolating experiences that women face, including infertility, aging and motherhood. I hope people will find not just laughter but a sense of solidarity through these songs, which aim to distill complex topics in a light-hearted and honest way. V**GRA BOYS ANNOUNCE 2025 INFINITE ANXIETY TOUR

V**GRA BOYS ANNOUNCE

2025 INFINITE ANXIETY TOUR

Stockholm post-punk band V**gra Boys (= "ia" because of spam filters), who were just revealed as part of the Coachella 2025 lineup, have announced their infinite anxiety tour of 2025. The tour kicks off at Coachella on April 12, followed by a stint across Europe and the UK in April and May. They’ll then return to the U.S. and Canada for their first headline shows in the territory in two years, beginning September 10 in Vancouver. The 23-date North American leg includes stops in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and many more (full dates below). Presale tickets are available at 9 AM PST on Wednesday 11th, followed by the general on sale at 10 AM local time on Thursday 12th.

Two years removed from their excellent third album Cave World, V**gra Boys have continued their meteoric rise into the hearts and ears of fans across the globe. Their live shows have become the stuff of legend, with tales of shrimp being thrown on stage and cheese being grated on fans’ heads. Paired with frontman Sebastian Murphy’s powerful stage presence and the talented musicians backing him, the V**gra Boys are a must-see act.

Since their founding in 2015 and across three albums, V**gra Boys have carved out a unique place in the post-punk landscape, led by vocalist Sebastian Murphy’s sharp and sometimes hilarious observations on the absurdity of the mundane and the mundanity of the absurd. Their sound carries the spit and seethe of Iggy Pop, the drunken stumble of David Yow, and the haunted bark of Nick Cave, but they push those influences into wilder, uncharted territory. Motorik grooves pulse beneath post-punk grime, no-wave howls erupt in chaotic bursts, and for every gruff and gritty croak in their catalog, they counter with unexpected elements like bongos, squared-off synths, and a squonky saxophone.

Stay tuned for more V**gra Boys news in the new year.
