Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile Announce 'Lotta Sea Lice' LP Out October 13, Fall Tour Dates Announced

COURTNEY BARNETT AND KURT VILEANNOUNCE LOTTA SEA LICE LP TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 13TH ON MATADOR RECORDS
RELEASE VIDEO FOR DEBUT SINGLE
"OVER EVERYTHING" Photo Credit: Danny CohenCourtney Barnett and Kurt Vile, two of the most acclaimed and gifted songwriters of our generation, have joined forces to release a collaboration as unique and unusual as their talents. The new album  Lotta Sea Lice  will be released October 13th.

Lotta Sea Lice  is a conversation between friends, documented in raw, unvarnished song, brimming with personal history, crackling with energy and shot through with humour. What started as a loose plan to record a couple songs with no plans for release, turned into this full-length-"because the vibe was so strong," says Kurt. There's an unforced ease to the record, helped by the fact that the pair have been not just friends, but hardcore fans of each other's work for years. They also roped in colleagues such as Mick Turner and Jim White of the Dirty Three, Stella Mozgawa from Warpaint, and Aussie icon Mick Harvey.
Watch the video for "Over Everything"

The shared chemistry is immediately apparent in the album opener and first single "Over Everything", with dovetailing vocal lines and intricate, shimmering guitar. The lyrics play out as a rambling dialogue as they compare notes about songwriting and inspiration; it was the first song written for this project. The video was directed by Danny Cohen, who shot each on their home turf. The pair also tackle each other's tracks on the album, with Vile delivering a delicious, souped-up version of "Outta the Woodwork" backed by Barnett herself, and Barnett taking on Vile's "Peepin' Tomboy" completely solo, to spine-tingling result. The overall effect of  Lotta Sea Lice  is of Barnett and Vile throwing open the doors to their house to listeners - it's their party, but everyone is invited.
Following its premiere as Zane Lowe's World Record on Apple Music's Beats 1 Radio, "Over Everything" is now available everywhere. Pre-order Lotta Sea Lice here. Barnett and Vile recently sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss the making of the album, read the full article here

Stereogum calls the song, “…appealing in its blend of melancholy resignation and defiant self-will.” Additionally, of working with director Natalie Neal, Mayfield adds, “When I saw Natalie’s final edited version of this video I cried happy tears. This song is about not wanting anything to cloud your judgment because you are trying to protect yourself. It’s about leaving a party and not saying goodbye to anyone, and wanting so badly to be able to trust someone you shouldn’t.”“Meadow” is the second track unveiled from Mayfield’s anticipated new album,  Sorry Is Gone , which will be released September 29 on ATO Records and is now available for pre-order.Already receiving acclaim, the video for the album’s title track recently premiered at  NPR Music . Of the song, NPR Music’s Bob Boilen praises, “Jessica Lea Mayfield is taking back her life. ‘Sorry Is Gone,’ the title track to her next album, is a song of empowerment that finds the singer moving past a difficult period in her life…Despite the weight of that, the song feels breezy, flowing and freeing.” Watch/share HERE.The 11-track record was recorded at Water Music and Electric Lady studios with producer John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Phosphorescent). In addition to Mayfield, the album features a variety of world-renowned musicians including Seth Avett on backing vocals and keys, drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth, Sun Kil Moon), bassist Emil Amos (Grails, Holy Sons) and guitarist Cameron Deyell (Sia, Streets of Laredo.) with additional production from Patrick Damphier (The Mynabirds).Of the record, Mayfield comments, “The whole record is about me taking my life back, without really realizing it. I realized I’m the only person that is going to look out for me. I have to be my main person. No one else.” She continues, “I have to sing about things and write about things that have happened to me as therapy. That’s what connects me to other music I listen to. I want music to make me feel things. This is my inner dialogue, and my chance to get the last word.”In support of the release, Mayfield will embark on an extensive tour this fall including shows at NYC’s Baby’s All Right, DC’s Songbyrd, Nashville’s The Basement East and Chicago’s The Empty Bottle among many others. Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story theatrical and home video release

Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Storycoming to theaters September 1st and home video on October 27th
With exclusive voice-over contributions from David Bowie, this film is a celebration of the life and works of guitar virtuoso Mick Ronson, a rock hero virtually uncelebrated despite his direct contribution and involvement in countless compositions, lyrics and recordings that changed the face of music forever.   An Emperor Media Ltd production, documentary special  Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story (101:50 minutes) is from award-winning producer/director Jon Brewer. Mick Ronson's humble beginnings in Hull, England underpinned his values and modest, unpretentious personality as he worked with the city's council whilst pursuing his craft with consummate dedication.
Soon word of his talent reached David Bowie, who grabbed at the chance to work with Ronson, in what would become a career-long association, alongside collaborations with other greats such asBob Dylan, Ian Hunter, Lulu, Lou Reed, Morrissey and John MellencampThe Man Who Sold the World, Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory, The Jean Genie - all were constructed with Ronson on guitar.

Sadly in 1993, while working on a solo album, Ronson passed away before receiving the recognition he so richly deserved or before taking that final bow. Now, with unprecedented access to archival backstage footage - never before released - and iconic imagery from superstar photographer Mick Rock, this fascinating and at times controversial special reveals the ultimate authentic chronicle of the career of a cornerstone of rock.

Producer and director Jon Brewer commented, "Both Mick Ronson and David Bowie together were the ultimate duo. They performed and recorded like magicians and created masterpieces that will live on forever."

Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story  is distributed in the US by MVD Entertainment Group via Blu-ray + DVD, transactional video on demand, and download to own rights from international distributor Content Media following the Parade Deck Films theatrical release .

Ian Svenonius, as Escape-ism, to release debut solo album on Merge Records

On November 10,  Escape-ism —the solo moniker of D.C. man-about-town Ian Svenonius—will release his debut record  Introduction to Escape-ism  on Merge Records. Listen to and share “Almost No One (Can Have My Love)” from the forthcoming album onStereogum, or below now.

Escape-ism "Almost No One (Can Have My Love)"
Pre-order Introduction to Escape-ism now on CD and limited-edition white vinyl in the Merge store, or via one of these digital providers. All physical orders will include an Escape-ism button, while supplies last. Both Escape-ism and The Make-Up will be on tour this fall, so be sure to follow Ian on Instagram and Facebook for updates, as well as the trusty Merge tours page.

Watch & share the commercial for Introduction to Escape-ism nowIntroduction to Escape-ism shouldn’t only be reviewed in the music press but in the “world affairs” column of a conspiracy-minded newspaper, on a hot-rod review TV show, or possibly at an important conference by a renowned astrophysicist. It’s that important! Why? Because it’s the first “solo” record by Ian Svenonius—of groups The Make-Up, Chain & the Gang, The Nation of Ulysses, XYZ, Weird War, etc. and author of underground bestsellers such as The Psychic SovietSupernatural Strategies for Making a Rock ’n’ Roll Group, and Censorship Now!!—and as such, it’s profound, prophetic, perverse, and poetic… It’s introverted glitter, violence against the state, obsessive desire; it stomps on convention, shreds constitutions, clobbers pre-conceived notions of what a record can be.Yes, that’s right: a single-person performance by I.F. Svenonius—recognized by Performer Magazine as the “greatest performer on the planet”—Introduction to Escape-ism is a bite into a one-banana bunch.A drum box, a guitar, a cassette player, and a single slobbering, sinful voice singing out…for a way out. Live, it’s a new paradigm of performance: raw, gestural, idiotic, sublime, revolutionary, poetic, faux naïf, unknowing, a drainage pipe that leads to who knows where.

BULLY Release New Single "Running," New Album Out 10.20 On Sub-Pop

BULLY RELEASE NEW SINGLE"RUNNING"
NORTH AMERICAN FALL TOUR ON SALE NOW, MORE DATES ADDED
NEW ALBUM LOSING OUT OCTOBER 20TH ON SUB POPPhoto Credit: Alysse Gafkjen
LISTEN TO "RUNNING"
Bully are back with a new album, more powerful and hard hitting than ever. Now on Sup Pop worldwide, Losing will be released October 20th. Off the back of the first single "Feel The Same" which had critics and fans alike raving about its intensity, the band are offering another glimpse into the new album releasing the new song "Running." Alicia Bognano explains the meaning behind the song telling us, "Overall, Running is about shamelessly keeping yourself distracted or making up excuses to avoid processing certain emotions."
Losing has all the hallmarks of an iconic album and on the band's sophomore release, they've landed harshly in the adult world, and are facing the brutality of life. New York Magazine tipped the album in the Fall Music Preview writing "Alicia Bognanno has the loveliest snarl this side of Nirvana's Live at Reading. That it's in a pop-punk setting, with lyrics reckoning with adulthood, only strengthens its power."
Bully will be hitting the road this fall, all dates are listed the below, along with a newly announced run of 2018 dates. Losing is available for pre-order now from Sub Pop Records and the band's webstore. LP pre-orders of the album from Sub Pop and select independent retailers will receive the limited Loser Edition on clear vinyl with black swirls (while supplies last).
Press For "Feel The Same":""Feel The Same"....also plumbs an uncomfortably static state of mind. But this time Bognanno doesn't try to lighten that feeling-instead, she intensifies it." -Pitchfork
"Though a relatively quick 2:22, it perfectly catches the feeling of having your mind overtaken by barrage of useless thoughts as backing vocals pan left and right." -Consequence of Sound
"The track is Riff Central (population: Bully), and features Bognanno's rasping, urgent vocal spitting out lyrics about boredom and stasis over a raging blow of an instrumental that's all frustration and released repression." - Noisey
"'Feel The Same' is a two-and-a-half minute jolt of energy, layered with catchy hooks and the singer's penetrating howls." - Paste
"A quick blast of fuzz that recalls Sonic Youth at their most compact and Live Through This-era Hole." - Spin
"A ragged and propulsive rocker that serves as a great introduction to a great band." - Stereogum
"The new track is a tightly compact punk rock eager that carries some major, vintage Sonic Youth vibes." - Uproxx

Overcoats Announce North American Fall Tour

OVERCOATS ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN FALL TOUR
VOTED NPR FAVORITE NEW ARTISTS OF 2017

DEBUT RECORD YOUNG OUT NOW ON ARTS AND CRAFTS
"The chills they give me; the fact that I can't look away when they perform; their complex and irresistible harmonies; the vulnerability to their words and the dance-y beats they put behind them." - Bob Boilen
Since the release of their groundbreaking record YOUNG, Overcoats have taken 2017 by storm receiving critical acclaim and being hailed as one of the breakthrough acts of the year. The duo came in at number 3 on the NPR Favorite New Artist poll with one listener describing them as "Totally rad ladies with smart lyrics, sweet vocals, and powerful, sometimes-gritty backing music that's kind of dark but very danceable." They also stopped by the NPR offices and delivered this breathtakingTiny Desk performance.
Click Here To Listen To "Leave The Light On"
Billboard also included YOUNG in their top albums of the year so far writing "supported by infectious electronic beats that can both amp up intensity and diminish for more tender moments -- that help their painfully relatable (though often minimal) lyrics hit home."
Overcoats is the project of best friends Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell. YOUNG captures a sound rich in minimalism and melody: songs of connection and tension, on the depths of love and challenges of family.  Overcoats' music draws strength from vulnerability, finding light through darkness, and the catharsis of simple, honest songwriting.
After selling out venues around the country in the spring, Overcoats are bringing their captivating live show to audiences around North America. Check out the full run of shows below and don't miss out on seeing what is one of the most exciting and dynamic new bands to emerge this year.
Watch Overcoats Perform On World Cafe
Press Acclaim for YOUNG:"Overcoats harmonize constantly and consonantly in the style of old-line country brother acts, from the Stanley Brothers to the Everly Brothers." - New York Times
"...one of the best albums of 2017 ..." - NPR
"YOUNG might be one of the coziest albums you'll hear all year - but it still packs enough oomph to ignite a late-night dance party..." - Entertainment Weekly
"The pair consistently brings together tight vocal harmonies with upbeat electronic tracks for a fresh take on folk..." - NYLON
