Brooklyn's Dead Leaf Echo will release its sophomore LP, Beyond.Desire, this Friday (10/13) via PaperCup Music. A dark, shimmering mix of shoegaze and layered guitar pop, it was recorded with legendary My Bloody Valentine engineer Guy Fixsen and Jorge Elbreht (Ariel Pink, No Joy.) The album has clear 4AD influences, but finds Dead Leaf Echo pushing boundaries and forging their own sound while still embracing their idols.
Today, the band shares another preview of their upcoming release with "Sunlessoul," which pairs upbeat melodies with lyrics about loneliness and some of the darker parts of the human condition. You can stream the track where it premiered with Impose Magazine or on Soundcloud .
Having toured extensively over the past few years, Dead Leaf Echo has played festivals like SXSW, CMJ, NXNE, and Desert Stars Fest and shared stages with everyone from Swervedriver to Beach Fossils and A Place to Bury Strangers. Chromeo aka The Funklordz aka the Canadian duo of childhood friends Dave 1 and P-Thugg may be selling out shows across the globe, amassing millions of streams and working with some of the biggest names in music, film and art, but they're not too big to remember where they came from. Jess Cornelius has released the second song from her forthcoming debut EP Nothing Is Lost, the powerful new single "Love And Low Self Esteem." The song finds Cornelius taking stock of a relationship in ruins, confessing, "Sometimes I can't tell the difference / Between love and low self esteem / 'Cause it's when I'm feeling tiny as an eyelash / That's when I want to be all you need."
Nothing Is Lost is out October 27 via Dot Dash/Remote Control and is available for pre-order now.
