DREAM ALOUD ARRIVES APRIL 4, 2025

VIA LITTLE CLOUD RECORDS - PRE-ORDER

APPEARING AT TREEFORT MUSIC FESTIVAL NEXT MONTH

"The self-aware lyrics, paired with droning vocals, kick through the tide

and wade within pulsating synth puddles."

 - PASTE MAGAZINE

"Traverses a wide swath of territory stylistically, veering from anthemic shoegaze... to ethereal Velvets-esque bleary-eyed lullabies... to Spacemen 3-indebted bombast...rendering what could easily transpose as staid utterly modern and vital."

- UNDER THE RADAR

"Creates music that floats on a narcotized cloud of reverbed guitars and gauzily layered vocals."

- NOISEY

"A staple of the NYC music scene, Heaven play music that sits somewhere between shoegaze and psych sensibilities and produces songs that act as sonic love notes to both genres."

- THE DELI

NYC-based power-popgaze band Heaven are excited to share the second single from their upcoming third full-length album, Dream Aloud, out April 4, 2025, via Little Cloud Records. Out now, “The Fire You Know” is a fever dream of a lyrical vision, melancholy orchestral sounds anchored by hi-hats keep fated beliefs and secrets deep inside. Out now with an official music video, today’s single features Megan LaMarca on cello recorded by her husband Anthony LaMarca from The War On Drugs. Heaven’s usual choir of noisy guitars are traded in for lush string arrangements, resulting in complete sonic entracement.

The official music video for “The Fire You Know” was filmed in Upstate New York in and around an early 20th-century farmhouse in Narrowsburg, NY, aptly called the Nowhere House. Directed and shot by Jeska Sand, the excursion from NYC was an escape into the cold snowy recess of winter to find the fire and the warmth needed to conjure the vision, voluntarily stepping into the doorway of the madness that is believing.

Forming an amalgamation of their influences, the single “I Need You More Somehow,” debuted last month with an official music video, pairing timeless melodies with layers of reverb-driven guitar. Grounded by sirens of feedback, the song previewed an album full of emotional exploration tied up in otherwordly instrumentation. Dream Aloud was first teased last year by quintessentially dreamy lead single, “I’ll Let You In.” The record was recorded in New York City, mixed by Jonathan Krienik (The Rapture, Gang Gang Dance), mastered by Christopher Colbert (The Walkmen, Pedro the Lion) and features guest guitar on the title track by Steve Schiltz (Longwave, Wah Together).

Heaven ride a massive sonic wave in delivering their introspective yet dreamy tracks. Matt Sumrow and Mikey Jones created the band in New York City after touring and recording with artists such as Dean And Britta, Swervedriver, Ambulance LTD, Caveman, The Comas, The Lemonheads, and others. Now joined by bassist Sonia Manalili, the trio is excited to share their first album in 7 years, their most somnambulistic to date, the band’s third full-length, Dream Aloud.

David J introduces his funny Valentine - just in time for Feb 14

David J introduces his funny Valentine - just in time for Feb 14

Los Angeles, California: Former Bauhaus and Love & Rockets mainstay David J continues his remarkable run of recent singles (“Christmases When You Were Mine,” “Night of the Vampire” and his acclaimed duet with Melanie on her own “Beautiful People”) with a shimmering, fragile take on the immortal “My Funny Valentine.”

Taken from Cleopatra Records’ upcoming Gothic Valentines album, “My Funny Valentine” was first heard in the Rodgers/Hart musical Babes In Arms back in 1937. Since that time, this love song for a less than lovely-looking paramour… “your looks are laughable, unphotographable, yet you’re my favorite work of art”… has been covered by upwards of 600 artists in the years since teenager Mitzi Green first voiced it, from Frank Sinatra and Julie London to Elvis Costello and Nico.

It was also inducted into the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry in 2015, in recognition of the song’s “cultural, artistic and/or historical significance to American society and the nation’s audio legacy.”

“I’ve always loved this classic song,” says David J, “and thought that a ‘cold wave’ synth version in collaboration with my talented friend, Jon Bernstein, would suit the tone of the album.”

He was correct. It does.

SINGLE: https://orcd.co/ej5qaoa

The Gothic Valentines album itself, as the title suggests, is, a seasonally sensitive gathering of exclusive new recordings and much-loved classics by Switchblade Symphony, Iggy Pop, David J, Ministry, Cinderella, Leæther Strip, Soft Cell, and Joy Division - plus, in case you missed it, David J and Melanie’s “Beautiful People,” casting David J as the Lee Hazelwood to Melanie’s Nancy Sinatra.

Elsewhere across the two CDs, goth legends Rosetta Stone, Sex Beat, the Skeletal Family, Christian Death and Gene Loves Jezebel join upcoming favorites Lebanon Hangover, Sonsombre and The KVB in redrafting February 14 in the blackest of hearts and the finest of fishnets.

And don’t forget the eye liner!

Today, Bella Union announce the release of Anxious, the posthumous debut solo album from Nell Smith, due out April 11. Accompanying the announcement is lead single and album title track Anxious, a captivating psyche-pop gem. It sets the tone with a welcome, whimsical look at teenage angst, Smith laying bare the challenges she faced via the anxiety which was amplified as a young person navigating life in a pandemic that consistently shut the doors she was used to bursting through.

Listen / Share: “Anxious”

Posthumous record releases will always be charged with emotion but when the release comes from a 17 year-old artist that was just getting started it’s heartbreaking beyond expression. Anxious is a mesmerizing selection of songs that explore the highs, lows and uncertainty of teenage life through the eyes of Nell and is the follow-up to Where The Viaduct Looms, her debut collaboration with The Flaming Lips that explored the works of Nick Cave.

“It is still very painful when I realize Nell is gone”, says Wayne Coyne. “I keep thinking I’ll check my text messages from her. I’m sure she has a new drawing or new piece of a song or a new photo of her cat… and then I remember she is gone. Now when I’m listening to her singing these songs there is a brief fantastical joy. Her voice hits the ear, the ear tells brain this is the sound of love, the brain lets the mind fly through the billions of connections it has with Nell’s life... but as it flies it also flies to her death... there is something holy that happens now.”

Guided by the talented Jack and Lily Wolter of Penelope Isles, who helped shape Nell’s songs, some of which had been in the works since she was twelve years old, the result is an album brimming with emotion, playful melodies and a depth that hints at what Nell’s future may have held.

Nell’s record includes three songs which were written in partnership with Canadian folk band Shred Kelly with whom she spent winter evenings writing in her hometown of Fernie, British Columbia, huddled round the fire in 2022. Jack and Lily Wolter subsequently completed these songs and the rest of the works in Brighton in 2023. Her first and only studio recording session at Bella Union’s studio in Brighton at the tender age of 15 was an intense mix of long days with Jack and Lily expertly teasing out what was really going on in Smith’s mind with the help of Doritos, Fizzy sweets, Coca Cola and inspiration gained by sneaking her into venues to see local bands play.

A lot of Nell’s creative drive was rooted in raw teenage emotions; apprehension; love; travel; gratefulness; ambition; and grief. These moods are visited throughout the tracks on the album with an instrumental approach that brings joy into even the darkest of songs.

Additionally, Nell’s family has announced the creation of the Nell Smith Memorial Fund to honour her legacy and support emerging musicians, nurturing their artistic growth in recognition of the kindness and support that she was lucky enough to receive from the many people she met on her journey. The fund aims to raise $100,000 and award $10,000 every year for ten years with profits from the release going directly into the fund’s corpus. More info on the fund can be found on Nell’s official website here.

Lucius returns with new self-titled album May 2, new song "Gold Rush" debuts today

LUCIUS RETURNS WITH NEW SELF-TITLED AND SELF-PRODUCED ALBUM MAY 2 NEW SONG “GOLD RUSH” DEBUTS TODAY“THE GOLD RUSH TOUR” CONFIRMED, TICKETS
ON-SALE NEXT FRIDAY
Photo credit: Dana Trippe February 5, 2025—Acclaimed indie-pop band Lucius will release their highly anticipated new self-titled album May 2 via Fantasy Records (pre-order/pre-save here). Ahead of the release, their new song, “Gold Rush,” is out today. Listen/share HERE. Throughout their acclaimed career, Lucius’ Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe have become some of the most sought-after collaborators in popular music, having performed and recorded with artists such as Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, John Legend, The Killers, Harry Styles, Sheryl Crow and many more. Now, with the release of Lucius, they’re poised for a long-overdue breakout, as they return with a record that cements them as a musical force entirely on their own. Produced by Lucius’ Dan Molad, the new album marks a full circle moment for the group (Laessig, Wolfe, Molad and Peter Lalish) as they return to their roots, writing and recording without seeking outside influence—their first time doing so since their debut over a decade ago. Across these eleven tracks, Lucius explores deeply personal topics, such as relationships, grief and life’s complexities, with a vulnerability only made possible due the familial nature of the band. Lucius was recorded between Los Angeles’ Altamira Sound and Molad’s home studio, Sounds Like A Fire, which has since become inoperable after being impacted by the devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area last month.Reflecting on the project, Lucius shares, “Our fourth studio album is the four of us, just as we first started recording together as a band. It’s raw and honest and feels like coming home; something that resonates deeply in this moment of our lives. We are home in so many senses of the word; in the last couple of years we’ve started setting roots, finding life partners, building families, growing gardens. We got dogs, (you can hear them in the background if you listen close). We wrote songs about life and relationships. We recorded them in our home studios. We saw the beginnings and endings of life cycles while making this record, the beauty and fragility of the human experience. So it’s only fitting that this album is self-titled, it’s our story, who we are now and how we got here. Welcome to our living room.” Additionally, of “Gold Rush,” the group reflects, “‘Gold Rush’ is that addictive sweetness to love. The roller coaster highs and lows. The sugary can’t get enough of you, can’t live with you feeling that keeps you coming back for more. It’s energy and grit: guitars wailing, heavy backbeat, dynamic vocals which flip from verse to chorus - mellow to strong - playing off the band and echoing the sentiment of the lyrics.” In celebration of the new music, Lucius will embark on “The Gold Rush Tour” this spring, which includes stops at Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Paramount, Los Angeles’ The Wiltern, Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, Chicago’s The Salt Shed, Denver’s Ogden Theatre, Seattle’s Showbox, San Francisco’s The Warfield and more. See below for complete tour itinerary. Tickets for the tour will be available for pre-sale starting Tuesday, February 11 at 10:00am local time with general on-sale following Friday, February 14 at 10:00am local time. Full details can be found at www.ilovelucius.com.  Lucius features collaborations with a few close friends—The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel (“Old Tape”), Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith (“Stranger Danger”), Madison Cunningham (“Impressions”) and Ethan Gruska (“Impressions”)—as well as contributions from Luke Temple (electric guitar, “Do It All For You”), Rob Moose (strings, “At the End of the Day”) and Evan Smith (flutes, “At the End of the Day”).
Photo credit: Dana Trippe // album cover art, photo by Jack DavisonLucius, their fourth studio album, follows the band’s acclaimed 2022 record, Second Nature, which was produced by Brandi Carlile and Dave Cobb. Released to overwhelming acclaim, the Los Angeles Times praised, “dazzling…Second Nature mines an ’80s-pop sound with lush synths and sleek disco grooves under the women’s laser-guided vocals,” whileVariety declared, “with Second Nature…they’re no longer 20 feet or even a couple of yards from stardom, but  re-claiming the spotlight for themselves” and Relix proclaimed, “stunning…a 10-song, smart-pop masterpiece.” Most recently, Lucius celebrated the 10-year-anniversary of their debut album, Wildewoman, with the release of Wildewoman (The New Recordings)—an expanded version of the record that features new versions of the 12 original tracks, including collaborations with friends Carlile, Marcus Mumford and Devon Gilfillian. LUCIUS TRACK LIST1. (Feb 4th, 2025) - Today, French vocalist, producer and composer Oklou shares a final single “blade bird” ahead of her full album, choke enough, out this Friday Feb 7th via True Panther (Grace Ives, Model/Actriz, Frost Children). Alongside the new single Oklou shares a live session video of the song produced by NTS and directed by Iris Luz. The video features Oklou performing the single in the center of an ice rink with graceful ice skating dancers swirling around her.

Oklou’s debut album was developed with co-producers Casey MQ, Danny L Harle and A. G. Cook. The album is a reflection on the subconscious and conscious demands of an artistic psychology, as well as existing and creating in a brief and transient life. choke enough is filled with warm production, pairing ambient sounds with minimal club rhythms, delicate synthesizer arpeggios and found sound samples.

Oklou will be performing a string of North American and fully sold out European tour dates in February and March. The tour begins in Europe with stops including Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and London and then continues on to North America with dates in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Find tickets here and full tour routing below.

The new single follows several recently released tracks including “take me by the hand” featuring Bladee, title track “choke enough,” “harvest sky” featuring Bay Area artist underscores, sensuous companion, “obvious” and “family and friends,” which came alongside a Gil Gharbi directed music video. As a whole Oklou speaks about the forthcoming album sharing, “I see it as built on a permanent conversation between a life anchored in reality and another in fantasy. I can’t imagine a life without daydreaming, without spending time appreciating beauty, but I need to be anchored to the ground to continue paying attention to what’s happening around me.”

Born Marylou Mayniel in the countryside of Western France, Oklou’s first musical experiences consisted of classical piano and cello lessons before she fell in love with electronic music and took up production. Mayniel eventually moved to Paris, where she hosted weekly radio shows and performed her first live shows as Oklou. After two EPs, 2017’s For The Beasts and 2018’s The Rite Of May, Mayniel received international acclaim, accelerated through collaborations with Mura Masa, A. G. Cook and EASYFUN (the last two both producers of Charli XCX’s Brat) and culminating in her full-length mixtape galore in 2020. It was a turning point in her artistic life, heralded as an innovative and introspective work by fans and media, with Dazed praising as, “sophisticated in its composition yet totally cutting edge in its sound.” International touring followed, including support tours with Oneohtrix Point Never and Caroline Polachek as well as a much-heralded feature with Flume.

Listen to “blade bird” above and stay tuned for the full album out on friday.

DEBUT EP VERSIONS OF YOU

PERFORMING AT ZEBULON

FOR LA FIRE BENEFIT THIS SATURDAY

Rocket by Holly Whitaker

Early Praise for Rocket:

"Rocket make soaring, anthemic alt-rock with a classic feel, picking up a torch from veteran acts like Dinosaur Jr....a band that’s ready to take it to the next level" - Rolling Stone

“nods to ’90s indie rock staples..blissfully detached dream-pop..hard-hitting numbers..Rocket have built themselves a solid launching pad” - Stereogum ‘Best New Artists of 2024’

"It's rare to find a band so fully developed without an album out.. they're certainly not lacking in the songwriting department” - Consequence ‘Artists to Watch in 2025’

"The debut EP from LA quartet Rocket absolutely soars... the band combines a laid-back California charm with biting lyricism and tight, synergetic compositions. If Sonic Youth made pop chart-friendly hits, you’d have Rocket. We need 100 more of these songs."- Paste Magazine

"The harmonies glide, whereas the riffy, daydreamy guitars build to a glorious climax in the back half, reminiscent of Sonic Youth and Momma" - Alternative Press ‘Rising Artists to Know’

“this underground band are making big, open-hearted anthems for a new generation to rally around” - NME ‘Cover Story’

"Rocket are stepping into the light unflinchingly honest and with a loose-limbed confidence not at all indicative of their freshman status..magnetic melodies that are contoured by a distinctive and generous sincerity." - Monster Children

"the alt-rock quartet’s debut EP offers catchy, yearning ballads that evoke nostalgia for adolescent frustrations” - Document Journal

"If you're mad for young guitar bands like Momma & Feeble Little Horse, L.A. four-piece Rocket are sure to hit your alt rock sweet spot" - Bandcamp ‘New & Notable’

"the new stars of the genre" - Impose Magazine

Los Angeles, CA’s Rocket announce their signing to Transgressive Records / Canvasback and share new single “Take Your Aim.” The blistering new track was written shortly after the release of their 2023 debut EP Versions of You, and will appear on the tracklist of the newly reissued EP, available on vinyl & CD for the first time via Transgressive Records / Canvasback, out April 18th. Pre-order HERE.

The track is about “the indignant response to feeling misunderstood or taken advantage of by someone but not being able to confront them about it,” says the band’s Alithea Tuttle, “It’s about a friendship that was built upon them taking more than they give and watching the friendship grow sour as time goes on. The verses illustrate the nature of the relationship; what that person says is what goes and no one can change their mind. The choruses fall back into the repetitiveness of overthinking; if this is all my fault like you say it is then take your aim.” Read more about the track in today’s Consequence ‘Origins’ feature.

Comprised of Tuttle (Bass, Vocals), Baron Rinzler (Guitar), Cooper Ladomade (Drums) and Desi Scaglione (Guitar), the members of Rocket have all know each other for a very long time, some since as early as preschool, with the full group coalescing in high school. “We spend pretty much every day together, so being in a band wasn’t even a question,” they explain. In early 2021, the group scraped together what money they had and rented the cheapest lockout space they could find, rehearsing religiously for months until their first show.

Inspired by the success of that first performance, the band convened in Cooper’s parents back house, and using a 1970’s Yamaha PM-1000 recording console that was donated to their elementary school, recorded their first EP. Despite their youth, there’s a confidence and strength of vision across these songs that is rare to find in a debut.

The now 8-song collection (newly repackaged today’s “Take Your Aim”) received nods from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, Paste, and Consequence, among others, and landed the band their first cover story at NME. The forward momentum put the band on the road for most of 2024, opening for iconic bands like Ride, Sunny Day Real Estate, Silversun Pickups, and peers including Julie, Bar Italia, Hotline TNT. The band appeared on festival stages around the world, including Pitchfork London & Paris, Bumbershoot, Best Friends Forever, and more.

After wrapping a handful of shows opening for The Pixies Frank Black across California last month, Rocket will celebrate the release of “Take Your Aim” with a show at LA’s Zebulon this Saturday, Feb 8th. All proceeds from this weekend’s show will be donated to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund and the Pasadena Job Center. Deep Sea Diver Shares “Let Me Go (Featuring Madison Cunningham)” Official Video

Deep Sea Diver Shares “Let Me Go (Featuring Madison Cunningham)” Official VideoToday, February 4th, 2025, Deep Sea Diver is sharing “Let Me Go,” her collaboration with Grammy-winning musician/songwriter Madison Cunningham, and a new offering from Billboard Heart, the band’s Sub Pop debut.

Inspired by French new wave films, “Let Me Go” follows Deep Sea Diver’s Jessica Dobson and Cunningham through a day in the life. The visual was also filmed in and around Los Angeles on January 5th, 2025. “Let Me Go” was directed by Dobson, Tyler Kalberg, and Deep Sea Diver’s Peter Mansen.

Dobson says of the visual, “I’ve been wanting to collaborate with Madison for a long time, and I was over the moon when this song came in such an unexpected moment. We were just jamming in the studio and I started playing a guitar riff that I’ve had kicking around since high school that Madison started immediately winding around on her guitar. We looped a drum machine that my co-producer Andy Park started playing and a few hours later most of the song was finished. This song felt effortlessly cool from the start; It reminds me of some of my favorite PJ Harvey songs, full of grit & power. We shot the music video with the same spirit, and as two LA natives who both love the city—we wanted to explore our hometown.  Not knowing that it was two days before the LA fires, it has subsequently taken on a new meaning as a love letter to the city we both adore.”
