Feb 7, 2025 – Today, the gold-selling Netherlands-born LA-based Iraqi-Syrian alt-pop artist Wafia releases her debut album Promised Land. The album was executive produced by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Sabrina Claudio. It includes previous releases like the experimental “Distant,” the wistful “Say It To The Moon,” “Sad Sh*t,” the levitating “Crystal Ball,” lilting “House Down,” the upbeat track “Background,” recent single “Something” and today’s release day focus track “Big Thoughts.”
Promised Land reflects Wafia's journey through displacement, survival, and the migrant experience. Guided by her mother’s belief that "everything is already written," it offers peace and acceptance amid life's uncertainties, inviting listeners to find solace in her deeply personal yet relatable storytelling. Wafia moved frequently during her upbringing, enduring periods of homelessness and Islamophobia, which deeply influenced her sense of belonging. The album weaves themes of resilience and hope, drawing from her experiences as a queer Arab woman.
“Promised Land is defined to me by what is meant for you will be, and nothing that’s meant for you can be taken away. It’s the seeds of hope that comes with immigration and major change,” says Wafia. “It looks like a place of optimism and bounty and nourishment - like stepping into your older sister’s garden or home, where you’ll be comforted and mothered and tended to. It’s a hopeful sanctuary for when you need it most.”
The sense of wonder that underscores much of Promised Land is undeniable. “I couldn’t imagine making the album any other way,” says Wafia, who worked with executive producer Sabrina Claudio.
Speaking on her collaboration with Wafia, Sabrina details, “Within a month we created Promised Land. We spent everyday working together. We laughed, cried, ate (a lot), spilled piping hot tea, danced, flea marketed, the girls were bonding!!! I knew we'd inevitably become close during this process, but this is a bond I've not experienced as a woman with another artist… Waf, thank you for trusting me.”
In addition to celebrating hope, Promised Land is a testament to survival.

About Wafia:
Wafia stands out in pop music for her deep understanding of the human experience, shaped by her Arab and queer identity. She gained attention in 2015 with a viral cover of Mario's "Let Me Love You" and her track "Heartburn," which Pharrell Williams featured on his Beats1 show. Endorsements from Jaden Smith and Kylie Jenner further boosted her rise. Her 2020 EP Good Things was praised by NPR as the "perfect pandemic soundtrack." Now signed to Nettwerk Music Group, with nearly two million global listeners, Wafia’s career continues to ascend with her debut Promised Land.

Sarah Klang's "Stunning" New Album 'Beautiful Woman' Out Now + SXSW + Los Angeles Dates 3/17
SARAH KLANG
NEW ALBUM BEAUTIFUL WOMAN OUT NOW
U.S. LIVE DATES INCLUDE SXSW &
LA’s MOROCCAN LOUNGE 3/17
“Sarah Klang’s ‘Beautiful Woman’ Is Stunning” – Associated Press
“’Beautiful Woman’ boasts bold and brash moments that feel like Adele covering The SteelDrivers alongside tender story songs that could have almost been pulled from the catalogs of country queens this side of the Atlantic like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton.” – The Bluegrass Situation
“Sarah Klang has built a career off of grand pop confessionals, crafting a fluid style that has touched on folk, Americana, and more recently, glassy and euphoric synth pop.” – Under The Radar
“Klang’s emotionality is overwhelming. She has an exceptional talent for finding the universal within the personal, which makes the experience of listening to her feel so intimate to one’s own strife.” – Paste
“Some of the best music of her career so far.” – The Line of Best Fit

“Sarah is a generational talent. She writes lyrics with such directness and honesty. She writes albums like chapters in a book. She writes about being sad and contrite and satisfied and confused better than most. I loved making this album, and I love listening to it. Super proud.”
- Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats)
February 7, 2025 – Today, Sarah Klang releases her anticipated full-length album, Beautiful Woman. Produced by Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats, Bonny Light Horseman), Beautiful Woman sees Sarah use her own lived experiences to unpack the very essence of what it means to be a woman today. Listen to Beautiful Woman HERE.
Sarah shares, “Ultimately, Beautiful Woman is a celebration of womanhood and girlhood. It doesn’t really have a lot of love songs; it’s not focussed on a specific guy. This is an album about the awkwardness of being a child, a teenager and about understanding your relationship with your body and self in a patriarchal world.”
Spanning childhood to the tumultuous teenage years and into young adult life, its topics wanting to fit in (“Other Girls”), revisiting painful memories from childhood (“Childhood”), needing love but worrying about the co-dependency that comes with it (“Last Forever”), and issues of body confidence as adulthood approaches (“Beautiful Woman”). It’s a fresh, but equally comforting set of deeply personal, introspective tracks from an artist for whom such reflection comes naturally.
Beautiful Woman is also the product of a new creative process for Sarah, who switched her previous preference for home recordings by heading to Los Angeles, where her “Go To The Sun” co-writers, the aforementioned Grammy-nominated producer Eric D. Johnson and her regular collaborator / co-producer Theodor Stocks led sessions which focused on live performances with the help of top tier musicians such as drummer Josh Adams (Cat Power, Beck) and bassist Josh Mease (The Weeknd, Fruit Bats). The process was completed with similarly highly accomplished contributions, with mixing by Jarvis Taveniere (King Gizzard, Avalanches) and mastering by Heba Kabry (Big Thief, Björk, Future Islands).
Sarah Klang has always had a talent for autobiographical songwriting, like on her acclaimed debut ‘Love in The Milky Way’ (2018), which won Best Album at the Swedish Grammis awards. It continued on ‘Creamy Blue’ (2019), which earned two more Grammis nominations as well as a nod for European Album Of The Year at the IMPALA Awards. While her sound had previously touched upon ‘60 and ‘70s pop, Americana, and an undercurrent of country, 2021’s acclaimed ‘VIRGO’ added elements of ‘80s synth-pop to the mix and led to a second Grammis, this time for Best Alternative Pop. In 2023, Sarah signed to Nettwerk and released ‘Mercedes’, which earned yet another Grammis nomination (Best Pop Album of the Year) as well as widespread international praise.
Sarah Klang will follow the release of the Beautiful Woman album by heading out on a European headline tour, followed by U.S. dates at SXSW and in Los Angeles on March 17 at the Moroccan Lounge. All dates listed below and tickets are HERE.

“Around the time I started playing around with this record I was thinking a lot about myself and my friends struggling with varying success to resist the commodification of mental space and honestly reconnect to ourselves and the world around us instead of getting numbed by it.
There’s so many people telling you how to hack your brain in a torrent of information and I guess this fed into all these songs being somehow caught up in the drive to be in my body and unwind my mental from so much examination and external pressure. I felt like I was being mentalized, like a TV hypnotist, 24/7 and the album seems to be me grappling with that. Mentalized isn’t ‘about’ this stuff, it’s just the music that comes from working through it.”
Eora/Sydney-based artist Skeleten releases his second studio album, Mentalized, today via 2MR / Astral People Recordings, alongside his new video for focus track, “Raw”.
What does it mean to mentalize others? How might the world around us stick us to our seats? In the modern world, is it truly possible to mentalize yourself into being? These are questions more easily asked than answered.
Where Skeleten’s 2023 debut album Under Utopia celebrated a world of hope and beauty pushed upwards by us all, his follow-up posits that this push comes with a struggle. It’s less about the fantastical, and more about asking how we are mentalized, and taken away from ourselves everyday. To play in this world doesn’t come without working for it, and that struggle is best when shared.
Mentalized is an evolution in attitude, sound and style that sees Skeleten emerge as a unique chronicler of contemporary living. Industrial and nu-metal textures underpin dreamlike vocals and abstracted pop arrangements, while fuzzed out guitar, harking back to 2000s indie, punctuates deep house and trip-hop rhythms. Underlying it all is an innate inclination towards the dance music world that Skeleten comes from, and the sound of genuine love and reverence for his craft.
Skeleten's world is both a sonic and visual one, conceptualising and creating every feeling from each piece of artwork, to music videos, to live visuals. His video for “Deep Scene” is an optical treat in which he dances through the excavated tunnels of the underground of Sydney. Opening with a vocalised exhalation “what the f*ck…”, it’s underpinned by a mantra "the real coming home" sung by a choir over and over again.
“Love Enemy” is a trip-hop inflected, guitar punctuated, and quietly ascendent track. It’s one of many songs where guitars make a more visible appearance on this record. “These People”, the opening track, is embellished by noodly and melodic guitar lines, “Bodys Chorus” pulls you in with hypnotic synth-bell chimes, and pushes you back with staccato overdrive guitar stabs, as if shaking you out of a daydream. Turntablist scratching both here and throughout the sonic texture of the rest of the album acts as a homage to nu-metal and trip hop and their humanistic approach to electronic music - an attention to detail that Skeleten relishes in, and which rewards deep listens.
Where the first half of the album is a cerebral meditation on the struggle of resisting being mentalized, things pivot on the emotionally expansive “Raw”. There’s more movement to Skeleten’s vocal melody, more foregrounding of his instrumentation, and lyrics pointing in every which direction. It’s a midpoint ballad that signals a shift in a journey to connection.
“‘Raw’ is one of the most personal songs on the record. I think often I’m making music in the space between myself and the world, but ‘Raw’ feels more like it’s just straight up from me. The first half of the album is kinda wading through some angst, trying to strip away noise to reveal a bit of truth and I think ‘Raw’ is one of the moments when that actually happens. Like when life hurts but you know it’s real?”
WATCH / SHARE “RAW” (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)

If “Raw” is the emotional outpouring of the album, “Let It Grow” is the dissociative surrender to pleasure that follows. Over a sensual synth line, Skeleten breathes life into the inexplicable weight of intimate connection. The song hangs heavy in the air, unmoving like the heat of an overpacked club, and the only way out is up.
“Viagra” is another step outside the pre-existing world of Skeleten, with vocals on full display, singing in his highest register - a hand extended out to catharsis, but perhaps just not reaching it. It’s a song that questions the ways in which we submit our bodies to the forces of capital. Album closer “Mindreader” is an exhalation of a different kind. An exhalation in being spent. It’s the result of navigating a relationship with oneself, with others, and with the world simultaneously. Of striving for goodness and pushing upwards, and always, inevitably, in some way falling short. The solace is in falling short together, and pushing anyway.
Driven by poignant mantras orchestrated to dance to, Skeleten’s Mentalized is a deeply personal offering, opening up to reveal not that Skeleten possesses all the answers, but that he’s asking the same questions as you. In resisting being mentalized, he shows how important it is to submit yourself.

Cold Specks Shares New Track "Lingering Ghosts" || Announces New Album 'Light for the Midnight' Out 4/9 On Mute
COLD SPECKS SHARES NEW TRACK
“LINGERING GHOSTS”
ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM
LIGHT FOR THE MIDNIGHT
OUT 4/9 ON MUTE

Today Canadian singer, songwriter and producer Cold Specks (aka Al Spx) has announced her fourth studio album, Light for the Midnight, that will be released digitally via Mute on April 9, 2025 and on CD and limited edition vinyl on April 11, 2025.
Light for the Midnight is a 10-track collection of fervent ballads and atmospheric songs, with Spx’s soulful voice channeled into expansive sonic worlds. At its core, it is a raw and deeply emotional personal reflection on endurance, survival, and transformation.
The new album launches today with “Lingering Ghosts”, which was co-written with British songwriter Ben Christophers (Françoise Hardy, Imogen Heap) and features Adrian Utley (Portishead) on guitar and production, Ali Chant (Perfume Genius / Katy J Pearson) on bass and production, Seb Rochford (Patti Smith / Adele) on drums and Dan Moore on piano.
Listen to “Lingering Ghosts” HERE.
Light for the Midnight was conceived during a challenging period in Spx’s life, with work beginning amidst struggles with her mental health, experiences that are deeply embedded in the music. Spx emphasises its universality, despite its personal origins: "I definitely wanted to reflect on the last couple of years because it impacted me so much, but I also wanted the audience to walk away with this album. You know, the songs belong to them once I release them.”
The record was crafted in Toronto and Bristol, with Spx co-producing alongside Adrian Utley and Ali Chant. The album features string arrangements by Owen Pallett (Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Sampha) and additional contributions from Graham Walsh of Holy Fuck. Spx also worked with a stellar line up of collaborators, including Chantal Kreviazuk (Drake, Kendrick Lamar) who co-wrote “Wandering in the Wild” and “How it Feels”, Malcolm Middleton of Arab Strap, Ben Christophers (who co-wrote “Lingering Ghosts”), Terry Edwards, Ed Harcourt, and Jonathan Quarmby.
Since she arrived on our screens with an unforgettable a capella performance on Later… with Jools Holland in 2011, Cold Specks has delivered crackling, pared-down guitar blues, gothic soul, gospel and warm electronics across three albums which won Polaris and Juno Prize nominations: 2012’s I Predict A Graceful Expulsion, 2014’s Neuroplasticity and 2017’s Fool’s Paradise. She has worked with Swans, Massive Attack, Moby and even performed at Joni Mitchell’s birthday concert. This first album in seven years showcases her vast talent as a vocalist, songwriter, lyricist and producer to startling effect.
Light for the Midnight captures Cold Specks at her most vulnerable and powerful, weaving stories of struggle into stunning compositions that resonate deeply. It is an album of hope and transformation.
Light for the Midnight will be released digitally on April 9, 2025 and on CD and limited edition vinyl on April 11, 2025 via Mute. Pre-order the album HERE.

Cloakroom’s new single, “The Story of the Egg”, is concise and boundless all at once. Sonically a duality, Cloakroom’s influence of punchy and downpicked punk of the late 70s / early 80s is matched with lush and amorphous compositions. The single is about “the new found anxiety and stress from the alertness that comes with finally feeling the otherwise positive effects of a full night's rest,” drummer Tim Remis explains. “There was a phenomenon of feeling anxious after working with a sleep doctor, realizing I spent most of my adult life without getting rest, had dulled my human sensations. Upon getting some deep sleep and rest, my new, heightened senses were overwhelming and I was left with a different feeling of anxiety.”

The Indiana three return next month with their next studio album, Last Leg of the Human Table – the follow up to 2022’s post-apocalyptic space western Dissolution Wave, and label debut for Closed Casket Activities. Each song showcases Cloakroom’s genre-bending capabilities and seemingly vast array of influences; whether it be the sampling of the post-disco Detroit group Was (Not Was) or the lifted NASA recording of the humming of Saturn’s rings. Recorded in December of 2023 at Electrical Audio in Chicago and Rec Room Recording in Des Plaines, Illinois, engineer Zac Montez (Whirr, Turnover) aided in smoothing out the rough and turning up the quiet.
For Cloakroom the world of modernity is in polycrisis and America has lost its soul. Narrative fetishism is all too usual of a literary mechanism for Cloakroom. If you listen closely you can hear the concern; not just for the teetering social structure but for what it means to be human and the high cost of the human experience.
Pop, shoegaze, doom, post-punk, folk only scratch the surface on Cloakroom’s shortest yet most essential release to date. Its title Last Leg of the Human Table may sound sardonic in its nature, but this group has always found some wonder in the scurrying chaos of modern life. In 37 minutes, the album imbues a sense of responsibility to the listener as if one leg were to falter, the whole table will fall.
Last Leg of the Human Table sees its release February 28 via Closed Casket, pre-order / pre-save it here.
Cloakroom have announced a headlining North American tour which kicks off in the Midwest next month.
