SCOWL RELEASE NEW ALBUM + ANNOUNCE TV DEBUT

SCOWL RELEASE NEW ALBUM ARE WE ALL ANGELS

LATE NIGHT DEBUT VIA THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT ANNOUNCED FOR APRIL 9TH

“An expansive, mature LP that embraces brighter hooks without losing the band’s early aggressive sound.”

- THE NEW YORK TIMES

Santa Cruz hardcore band Scowl has released their Dead Oceans debut, Are We All Angels along with a video for “Fantasy," directed by Louise de Nexon. Set in a hauntingly surreal arcade, the video follows the band as they slip from idle amusement into something far more suffocating. In support of the album, Scowl has also announced a run of summer tour dates, kicking off July 16th in Las Vegas and hitting cities like Portland, Seattle, and Denver before wrapping August 1st in Iowa. Glixen will provide support. These dates come in addition to previously announced shows across the EU, UK, and Mexico, with more tour dates to be announced soon. Full dates below.

Produced by Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, Mannequin Pussy) and mixed by Rich Costey (Fiona Apple, My Chemical Romance, Vampire Weekend), the album finds the venomous and antagonistic band funneling their aggression through a more expansive version of themselves. It’s already garnered the attention of The New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR, FADER and many more. Scowl has also announced their Late Night TV debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on April 9th. The album features previously released singles and videos “Special”, “B.A.B.E”, “Not Hell Not Heaven” and “Tonight (I’m Afraid)”.

At every turn on Are We All Angels, the band explores ambitious new directions and bends genre norms. Moss makes the most immediately noticeable evolution, dropping some of the gnarly bite of the band’s previous work in favor of a more textured and sometimes delicate approach. She flexes harmonies and melodic sensibilities that might surprise even the most dedicated Scowl fans. Moss cites a wide array of influences outside the realm of hard rock—everything from Billie Eilish to Radiohead, Car Seat Headrest to Julien Baker. “The majority of us were really not proficient musicians when this band started,” she admits. “It was very Germs-esque in that way, like baby’s first hardcore band, which is awesome. But now, we still might not know what we’re doing, but we have a better idea of what we want to do.” Instrumentally the band cites influence from Negative Approach, Bad Brains, Hole, Mudhoney Garbage, Ramones, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Rocket From The Crypt among others. Bassist Bailey Lupo notes “The song writing on the new record was the most collaborative to date in Scowl’s history. Everyone brought so many ideas to the table and we were able to dissect it all and take our time. We all have such eclectic tastes, influences and personalities and you can really hear that in every corner on this album.”

Even through this more eclectic approach, Scowl loses none of their edge and still manages to convey the anger and frustration that lies underneath. They are deeply committed to carrying the ethos of punk and its sense of community. “Hardcore and punk have sculpted how we operate, what we want to do as a band, and how we participate,” says Greene. “At our core, we are a punk and a hardcore band, regardless of how the song shifts and changes.”

CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH PERFORMED IN ITS ENTIRETY;

NORTH AMERICAN DATES BEGIN MARCH 31, 2025 IN WASHINGTON, DC

Alec Ounsworth and his band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are celebrating their 20th anniversary with today’s announcement of limited deluxe vinyl reissues of the landmark self-titled debut album, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, as well as Flashy Python’s Skin and Bones, Ounsworth’s 2009 solo debut, Mo Beauty, and the band’s 2011 third album, Hysterical. All albums will be available Friday, May 30, on Ounsworth’s label via Secretly Distribution. Pre-orders are available now.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (20th Anniversary Edition) will feature a fresh reimagining of the album’s iconic artwork, embodies the album’s DIY spirit with stunning splatter vinyl housed in a refined gatefold redesign featuring peel-off gecko stickers for personal creativity and a bonus flexi 7” with the recently unveiled original 2004 recording of “Heavy Metal” all paying tribute to one of the most beloved indie rock records of all time. An exclusive trailer premieres today on YouTube.

Flashy Python’s Skin and Bones, a hauntingly playful album released in 2009 without fanfare and featuring Ounsworth alongside members of Dr. Dog, The Walkmen, and Man Man, will be available for the first time ever in record stores, redesigned with hidden covers revealed by die-cut and semi-transparency as well as translucent rouge vinyl. Originally released under his own name in the same year, Mo Beauty – which Ounsworth describes as “something of a love letter to New Orleans” and includes production by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, The Blasters) and backing from such iconic New Orleans musicians as George Porter Jr. and Stanton Moore, among others – will make its vinyl return with a redesigned gatefold, spot gloss varnish, and marble smokey vinyl. Lastly, the band’s 2011 third album, Hysterical, which NPR praised as balancing “the exuberance of the band’s first album with beauty and reflection,” produced by John Congleton and boasting musical contributions from the legendary Mike Garson (David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails), now features a reinterpreted design of the original artwork – also exclusively limited to this reissue – with blue metallic foil, marble vinyl, and an inlay poster.

As a special incentive for concertgoers, all limited deluxe vinyl reissues will be available exclusively at the merch desk in advance of their official May 30 release.

Acclaimed Singer & Actress Ute Lemper Releases “Speak Low”

Acclaimed Singer & Actress Ute Lemper Releases “Speak Low”From New Album Pirate Jenny

Celebrating Revolutionary Composer Kurt Weill's 125th Birthday

Out April 25

“Fierce, multilingual chanteuse Ute Lemper” - The New York Times

“She may channel the likes of Dietrich and Piaf, with a strong sense of Jean Ross, but Lemper is still very much her own woman” - The Guardian

"A chanteuse of unique range and ability across all media" - The Washington Post

“It’s about building a bridge between eras, where Weimar meets the club.”

Ute Lemper on Pirate Jenny

April 3, 2025 - Today, on the 75th anniversary of revolutionary composer Kurt Weill’s passing, acclaimed singer & actress Ute Lemper has released “Speak Low,” the new single from her album Pirate Jennyout April 25 via The Audiophile Society

Composed by Kurt Weill for the musical One Touch of Venus, "Speak Low" was inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and popularly performed by Weill’s wife Lotte Lenya, and others such as Tony Bennett, Barbara Streisand, and Sarah Vaughan. With its tender melodies and romantic depth, "Speak Low" remains one of Weill’s most enduring classics, celebrated in both Broadway and jazz circles.

Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya’s legacy continues through the work of artists like Ute Lemper, who, since 1985, has been performing the songs of Weill and other Jewish composers from the Weimar era— whose music was banned and persecuted by the Nazis. She notes that Weill's works remain relevant today: "Exotic characters fight for survival, rising from the ashes of racism, disadvantage, and neglect—stories that feel strikingly contemporary.”

Lemper will release one more single from the album, title track "Pirate Jenny" (a revolt against the ruling party of the rich) from The Threepenny Opera - full tracklist below. Sultry vocals and atmospheric beats are brought to life with The Audiophile Society’s immersive Mega-Dimensional Sound™, transporting longtime fans and new listeners alike to a smoky Berlin jazz club outside of time, reminiscent of Lemper’s award-winning roles as Cabaret's Sally Bowles in Paris and Chicago's Velma Kelly in New York and London.

“This project is about creating a new audience for Kurt Weill,” says Lemper.“By blending his timeless melodies with a groove. I’m opening the door for younger listeners who might not know his work. It’s about building a bridge between eras, where Weimar meets the club.”

A Billboard Crossover Artist of the Year, Lemper has reimagined icons like Marlene Dietrich (Rendezvous with Marlene is based on a three-hour phone call between Dietrich and Lemper), Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel, alongside more modern collaborations with artists like Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, and Roger Waters (The Wall: Live in Berlin, 1990).

Mausoleum

PRE-SAVE: https://yr1.se/mausoleum

PRE-ORDER: https://mausoleum.zone/

(April 3, 2025) - Bay Area-raised, Los Angeles-based band Provoker shares the new single “Pantomime,” today. “Patomime” arrives alongside a Sean Stout-directed video and will appear on their forthcoming third full-length album Mausoleum due May 9th via YEAR0001. Mausoleum will also include the previously shared single “Another Boy,” which arrived with a video directed by Andrea Riba.

Speaking about “Pantomime,” vocalist Christian Crow Petty shares, “I wanted to write a song that felt baroque – loosely about the town fool falling in love with a debutant or something – but the main theme revolves around how falling in love feels like a descent into madness. I was inspired by this Shakespeare quote, ‘Sleeping or waking, mad or well-advised?’ The song and visual are supposed to be sort of nauseating like you’re so intoxicated by the reward system that you don’t realize how deeply you’ve sunk into hysteria.”

To celebrate Mausoleum, Provoker will embark on their headline North American tour this May and June, which will kick off following their performance at Cruel World festival in Pasadena, California on May 17th. The 19-date run will see Provoker perform across the country with support from RIP Swirl and faerybabyy. Tickets are available now HERE

Provoker’s forthcoming album is thematically rooted in feelings of isolation, but practically, it is one of the most communal and collaborative projects the band has ever made, executive produced by esteemed producer Kenneth Blume. The band’s Christian Crow Petty, Jonathon Lopez and Wil Palacios workshopped ideas together in studio sessions, born out of Petty’s thoughts of hauntings while holed up in an Echo Park attic. The album also enlists additional production from accomplished friends like Elliot Kozell (Yves Tumor, SZA), Simon Christensen (Gunna, Young Thug), Mikey Freedom Hart (Blood Orange, Lana Del Rey) and Zach Fogarty (Jean Dawson, Eyedress).

On Mausoleum, Provoker’s signature darkness has grown even bolder, sharpened and synthesized with the addition of Blume’s production and other outside perspectives. Petty and Lopez’s songwriting partnership delves deeper on the album, shifting the focus from supernatural creatures and the sci-fi of their cinematic influences to a world more rooted in our own reality and the hauntings of our own personal struggles. Those revelations are couched in the band’s characteristically vivid imagery of grotesquerie but capture all-too-familiar feelings of the struggles of self-worth, relationships and redemption.

For the uninitiated, Provoker began as a solo effort from musician Jonathon Lopez to create scores for horror and sci-fi films. After joining forces with vocalist and songwriter Christian Crow Petty and bassist Wil Palacios, Provoker released their debut full-length album as a trio with Body Jumper in 2021 and followed up with their 2023 release Demon Compass, which Alternative Press described as "uniquely emotional and addicting.” The band has toured alongside the likes of Viagra Boys, Beach Fossils, Turnover, glaive, TR/ST and spent 2024 touring across North America, including festival sets at Sound & Fury, Viva PHX and Substance Fest.

Check out “Pantomime” and pre-order / save Mausoleum above, see full live dates and album details below, and stay tuned for more from Provoker coming very soon.

Official reissue of Soisong debut album xAj3z (members of Coil / CoH) FIRST TIME ON VINYL

PREORDER
Official reissue of Soisong debut album xAj3z (members of Coil / CoH)
FIRST TIME ON VINYL

SoiSong is the bright, stunning, and short-lived project conceived in 2007 by Ivan Pavlov (CoH) and Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson (of Throbbing Gristle and Coil). The duo combined Pavlov’s uncompromisingly-visceral digital aesthetics with Sleazy's decadent, dark and whimsical approach to creation. Primarily located on the Eastern Pacific Rim, the two named the project after the Thai word for 'two' (song), as well as the seedy red-light quarters ("gloomy Soi's, or alley-ways") of Bangkok. Together, they developed a unique, elegant, yet rather cryptical musical language.

SoiSong’s debut full-length xAj3z is a digital reference to jazz: seemingly acoustic, effervescent, boundary breaking, digital-era entertainment where light rays and tropical heat are backed up by zeroes and ones. The album is a defining statement, and an arbiter of the possibilities in the (then-)developing late-2000s music landscape. Without the desire to be commercial, or convenient, SoiSong was not beholden to the conventions of easily defined tagging, and, in their own, "new, as-yet-un-categorizable genre," with xAj3z being its masterwork.

xAj3z freely mixes musical styles and combines various approaches to music-making: artificial vocalists are accompanied by real drums, jazz-noir arrangements meet the delicate melodics of the South Seas, and computers are made to sound warm and organic. The album shows no apparent respect for genre-definition and aims at communicating with the listener at highest levels of emotional intensity, often lyrical, sometimes dark, on occasions amusing and even uplifting. "Our songs, like Angels, are largely Mathematical."

Within the album's clear emphasis on bass, a distinct element are also the artificial vocalists: beautiful, otherworldly, organic yet distinctly alien. Utilizing an image of a bespoke virtual singer created by the external members of the collective Han Li Chiou and Yuu Soijin-san Omiya, as Pavlov noted in 2025, "the voice nothing else but an instrument that operates with syllables, which is what makes the performance reminiscent of a language... Yet, regardless of how poetic it might sound to a human ear, that sequence of syllables remains completely meaningless." In collaborating with Pavlov as SoiSong, Christopherson found the music's development natural: "I wouldn’t say that SoiSong really resembles anything that’s come before, particularly. But if you know, and appreciate what we both did before, then that knowledge will bring more appreciation and understanding to what we do now. It’s a progression from the past to the future." On the original liner notes, Peter Christopherson provides "Melodic Primitives and vocalists" with Ivan Pavlov on "instruments and Pentium jazz processing."

A standout of xAj3z, "Dtorumi" is one of the most breathtaking songs in the catalogue raisonné of Christopherson & Pavlov’s combined output, dripping in pseudo jazz and trip hop atmospheres. With heavily gated drums, bass synthesizers and ghostly syllabic non-vocals, "Dtorumi" is a masterclass in post-90s Warp electronic music. The influence of the Eastern Pacific is awash on "J3z", with digital bird chirps, harpsichords, upright bass stabs, and  the sounds of sunlight shimmering on 3D rendered shores – reminiscent of the geographically adjacent Susumu Yokota. And new to the Dais reissue is "Lom Tum Lai Kwee", a new mix of what was originally a live track only. "Lom Tum Lai Kwee" is an exercise in stereo separation, step sequencers and hallucinogenic grandeur, where the subs build into bells, twinkles, and horns, recalling the heights of Tangerine Dream’s imperial era. Album closer "Ti-Di-Ti Naoo", which in the SoiSong studios had a utopian provisional title "Thai Olympics Anthem", is reminiscent of the transformation of a concert hall from soundcheck to recital: a polite piano is carefully joined by live brass and strings, as the repeated non-lyric "ti di ti naoo" echoes around the room.

As xAj3z ends, there’s warmth from the sun: a new dawn on the horizon line, where possibilities are endless.

Dawes Share “Time Spent In Los Angeles (For Altadena)”; Special New Version of Classic Song

DAWES SHARE INSPIRING NEW VERSION OF

“TIME SPENT IN LOS ANGELES (FOR ALTADENA)” – LISTEN

VERY SPECIAL RENDITION OF LONGTIME FAN FAVORITE FEATURES

PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT MUSICARES RELIEF EFFORTS

IN THE WAKE OF DEVASTATING SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES

OH BROTHER TOUR RESUMES APRIL 9 IN WOODSTOCK, NY

Download Hi-Res Artwork

Acclaimed California rock band Dawes have shared “Time Spent In Los Angeles (For Altadena),” a very special version of their classic track newly produced by Mike Viola with the help of friends Andrew Bird and Alan Hampton, available everywhere now on their own Dead Ringers via Secretly Canadian Distribution. Proceeds from the track will benefit MusiCares relief efforts in the wake of January’s devastating Southern California wildfires. To contribute to MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, or if you or someone you know needs help, please visit musicares.org/firerelief

Dawes co-founders Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith are among the many Los Angeles area residents whose lives were shattered by the wildfires’ unprecedented destruction – Taylor lost his studio and most of the band’s musical gear and equipment while Griffin and their parents all lost their homes. Dawes immediately went to work supporting MusiCares efforts to assist fellow musicians affected by the fires by visiting ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform “Time Spent in Los Angeles,” originally found on their 2011 sophomore album, Nothing Is Wrong.

“We were asked to perform on Jimmy Kimmel within a week of both of our properties burning in Altadena,” says Taylor Goldsmith. “Griffin lost his house and I lost our studio. We decided to play a ballad version of ‘Time Spent in Los Angeles.’ The song means all sorts of different things to us now. After that live performance it became clear we would want a proper studio recording of the version for posterity (and to maybe even raise a little more money for MusiCares). So we hit up our fellow Angelenos Andrew Bird and Alan Hampton and recorded this live in one take at our old friend Mike Viola’s house studio in Echo Park. I feel like this is the version of this song that we’re gonna be playing for a long time to come.”

Dawes have spent much of their time since the fires supporting and raising awareness for MusiCares, including a surprise opening appearance at the 67th Annual GRAMMY® Awards that saw them leading an all-star lineup – including Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, and St. Vincent – for an unforgettable performance of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” Dawes’ own exclusive version – featuring lyrical changes to reflect the City of Angels’ inspiring resilience following the disaster – is available now, with proceeds benefitting The Recording Academy and MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort To Support Music Professionals.

Dawes –– were also among the stars performing at February’s star-studded FireAid benefit concert at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. After opening their set with “Time Spent in Los Angeles,” Dawes were joined onstage by Stephen Stills and Mike Campbell for a performance of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth.” The supergroup then welcomed Stills’ longtime friend and musical partner Graham Nash for an unforgettable rendition of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Teach Your Children” that saw everyone in attendance at the arena singing along in unison.

Last year saw the acclaimed release of Dawes’ ninth studio album, Oh Brother, available everywhere now. Exclusive split color vinyl, as well as an array of deluxe Oh Brother bundles, are available via the Dawes online store. Hailed by No Depression as “a staggering soundscape where guitar-talking, folk-rock, bleary-eyed grooves, and a kind of misfit pop all blur into one succinct soundtrack for these unprecedented times,” the album steers Dawes decidedly forward, honoring 15 years of Taylor and Griffin’s musical relationship, as well as the next era and natural evolution of their beloved band.

Trust Records is honored to announce the reissue of 7Seconds’ New Wind in its original form, as well as Change In My Head, which is a completely new take on the classic album with tracks remixed in their entirety by its original producer, Ian MacKaye alongside Inner Ear Studios’ Don Zientara. Restoring and reimagining New Wind’s unreleased tracks “Change In My Head” (available today) and “Compro” from the original 1985 D.C. Session, Change In My Head is a fresh snapshot of 7SECONDS in transition, but still very much of a hardcore punk band.

Listen / Share / Playlist Unreleased Title Track, “Change In My Head”

By 1986, 7SECONDS was a band at a crossroad. Spearheaded by brothers Kevin (Seconds) and Steve (Youth) Marvelli along with drummer Troy Mowat, the Reno-born band had emerged alongside first-generation hardcore trailblazers including Minor Threat to become a positive force in their own right.  Having released the landmark album, The Crew (1984) and the scene-galvanizing Walk Together Rock Together EP (1985) on the Better Youth Organization label, 7SECONDS took melodic, singalong hardcore to inspirational ends. Yet, by mid-decade, they were evolving as musicians and looking towards more personal territory in much the same way their Dischord DC brethren were doing during their own Revolution Summer. New Wind embodied that change. Produced in two sessions: one with longtime friend, Ian MacKaye at Inner Ear Studios in Washington D.C. in the Fall of 1985 and a second at Radio Tokyo Studios in Venice, CA early the following year, New Wind was the work of a band with their ethics rooted firmly in their punk origins while being unafraid to blaze new directions away from a scene choking on its own self-imposed rulebook.

Kevin Seconds tells, “The whole time period, between the winter of 1985 and all throughout 1986, was arguably the most important and life-changing period for 7SECONDS. We all were starting to feel like the adults that we fought so rigorously to never become. Members were getting married, having kids, trying to hold down real jobs and face responsibilities while still maintaining our so-called "hardcore cred" and attempting to feel relevant. It was an incredibly emotional and complicated time for all of us but man, did it ever make us tough and more determined to do what we wanted to do as creative people and as a band.”

Steve Youth adds, “There were certainly bands that came before us. Bad Religion, they made records like Into the Unknown, where they shifted their sounds. People were calling T.S.O.L. L.O.S.T, but I loved their second album, Beneath the Shadows, which is more melodic and psychedelic. The Rites of Spring record was also very important to me. Egg Hunt. The boys were listening to U2 as well as the Buck Pets. I was listening to nothing but metal: Metallica, Megadeth, Dark Angel, but I was also listening to a lot of R.E.M.”

While the album is inspirational with 7SECONDS classics, including “New Wind” and “Still Believe”, it’s unafraid to shift gears towards more melodic, lyrically personal directions with “Grown Apart” or “Opinion of Feelings”. Kevin’s voice and the band’s playing is more capable and richer, full of emotion and fire: showing traces of early U2 as well as the likes of Embrace or Marginal Man. An important record, New Wind was a divisive record for its time, garnering praise as well as critique. It also was the beginning of a new chapter for the band who made its name on aggression without anger.

New Wind and Change In My Head will be sold as one release, available across all digital retailers and in stores on May 23 via Trust Records, in partnership with BYO Records. New Wind’s original tapes were restored by Dan Johnson of Audio Archiving Services and was remastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Michael Graves.  The vinyl version comes with a 24-page oral history with unseen photographs, flyers and memorabilia all laid out by Bryan Ray Turcotte

Change In My Head was mixed by Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios, in January of 2023. The album was mastered by Pete Lyman of Infrasonic Studios.
