Smerz share new single and music video “Roll the dice”

SMERZ SHARE NEW SINGLE AND MUSIC VIDEO FOR

ROLL THE DICE

Big city life Out May 23 on Escho

(Wednesday 9th April) - Beloved Norwegian duo Smerz unveil another dimension to their forthcoming sophomore album Big city life, out May 23 on Escho. "Roll the dice" is a minimal drum-synth-one-finger-piano-riff-odd banger—soft-cornered and groovy, it’s an anthem to yourself. The song took shape as a thought experiment in a very dull room, 50% real memories, 50% fantasy. “It’s a post-something situation song.”

“Roll the dice”

WATCH HERE | LISTEN HERE

The initiation into Big city life is through singles “A thousand lies,” “You got time and I got money” and “Roll the dice.” Framed by Smerz’ signature voices and the bold minimalism that defines them, Big city life is a collection of moments and feelings gathered by Henriette and Catharina over the past four years. There are stories - both lived and imagined - of apathy, loneliness, talking to yourself, love and full-blown, almost manic freedom. Together, they form a sonic rite of passage, documenting transition in many forms, through both song and production.

“Some of the songs are pieces of advice to ourselves. Some are doorways into dreams. Some songs are secret wishes. Some are written for someone who is not here. And some are predictions,” explains Smerz.

Big city life is out May 23rd on Escho. Pre-order the album here and pre-save the album here.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers share new single, KEXP live album out Saturday

FRANKIE AND THE WITCH FINGERS

SHARE NEW SINGLE “TOTAL RESET”

WITH OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO

EXCLUSIVE RECORD STORE DAY RELEASE OF

THE BAND’S RAMBUNCTIOUS KEXP LIVE ALBUM

ARRIVES THIS WEEKEND

HEADLINE WORLD TOUR DATES BEGIN NEXT MONTH

NEW ALBUM TRASH CLASSIC DUE JUNE 6, 2025

"The quartet has gradually become a heavy hitter

in the underground rock, punk, and psychedelic circles…"

- SPIN Magazine

"Frankie will make any fan of punk-influenced psych-rock’s heart skip a beat."

- CREEM Magazine

"Frankie and the Witch Fingers walk the line between chameleonic and commanding,

wielding endless inventiveness as a weapon to outsmart artificial intelligence."

- Exclaim!

Today, influential Los Angeles psych-punk torchbearers Frankie and the Witch Fingers have shared another example of what to expect from their new album Trash Classic (June 6, 2025 // The Reverberation Appreciation Society / Greenway Records). “Total Reset” arrives with an appropriately grimy lyric video in tow – watch HERE. The new track precedes this weekend’s release of the band’s earthshaking KEXP-presented in-store performance from last year (which goes live on their YouTube channel on April 11, the day before its vinyl release as an official Record Store Day item). Recorded live at the KEXP Gathering Space in Seattle, hosted by the legendary Cheryl Waters, and now immortalized on limited-edition colored splatter “REACTOR BREACH” vinyl for Record Store Day 2025.

"’Total Reset’ is a spasmodic blast of punk and synth freakery, a tech product launch for the post-human era,” the band says. “Writing and recording a song can be such a hassle, so we let AI handle it this time (faster, cheaper, zero complaints). It spat out a nice little doomsday ditty: humanity is toast, a lucky few will be spared to reboot civilization. Weirdly enough, the song kind of rips, so maybe we don’t need humans to make things after all."

The band has also announced a robust slate of headline world tour dates, which include some of their biggest shows to date. See below for the full list of shows, with more to be announced soon.

Trash Classic follows another sort of classic, the band’s widely-acclaimed 2023 masterwork Data Doom. FLOOD Magazine had an almost prescient take, noting that Data Doom “feels much more in line with vintage dystopian sci-fi connotations, swapping weed-smoke riffs for frigid new wave pulses.” SPIN Magazine was early on the scene to declare the band has “become a heavy hitter in the underground rock, punk, and psychedelic circles,” and Exclaim! praised the band’s tendency to “walk the line between chameleonic and commanding, wielding endless inventiveness as a weapon to outsmart artificial intelligence.”

In addition to enjoying global press accolades in 2023, the band also played their biggest shows yet (including headline festival appearances), recorded a very special KEXP live session, and reached #3 on Billboard’s Alternative New Albums and #4 on Top New Artist Albums charts.

Hooks so infectious they rot on impact. Trash Classic marks a feral mutation for Frankie and the Witch Fingers—a record that snarls with proto-punk venom, angular melodies, and electronic textures that cough and sputter like dying neon lights under a poisoned sky.

This record pushes the Witch Fingers’ sound to a razor's edge. Wiry and twitching, it bends into synth-punk and fractured new wave, with fragments of industrial grime caked under its nails. Guitars detonate and slice like cinder blocks through glass, while gnashing basslines slither through the sludge, alive and seething. Buzzy synths take the forefront, driving relentless rhythms that crack and pop, drenched in a chemically saturated sheen—part bug-eyed speed-freak pogo, part dance-floor delirium. The vocals cut through like static-laced transmissions—balancing both smirk and sneer—layering playful unease over themes of escapism, decay, and overindulgence.

The songs were born in the grime of Vernon, Los Angeles—a wasteland littered with gutted RVs and rusting machinery, where the air tastes like asphalt and dog food. But the real alchemy happened in Oakland, at Tiny Telephone Studio, where producer Maryam Qudus (La Luz, Spacemoth) helped transmute the tracks into their final forms. Unhinged tones, unconventional recording experiments, and wild sonic detours transformed the songs into something alive and unpredictable.

Every day of recording began with cartoons blaring at full volume—a Looney Tunes ritual that turned the madness of the recording process into something child-like. Late at night, sugar-fueled candy binges kept the energy spiking, pushing the sessions into a fever dream of jittery, spastic playfulness.

The result is a raw, twisted monument to rot and excess—toxic glamour and nihilistic salvation. Trash Classic isn’t just a record; it’s an auditory dumpster bible—a gutter gospel for those ready to dive into its filth.

About Frankie and the Witch Fingers

Los Angeles psych-punk shapeshifters Frankie and the Witch Fingers have spent the last decade mutating their sound into bold, electrifying new forms. Their latest release, Trash Classic (via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society), plunges into a sewer-slick fusion of proto-punk venom, fractured new wave, and industrial grime. Brimming with wiry synths, angular melodies, and grooves that squirm and bite, it’s all delivered with a sly, playful wink. Fueled by relentless global touring and a fierce DIY ethos, the band has shared stages with OFF!, Ty Segall, Oh Sees, Cheap Trick, and ZZ Top, cementing their place as one of the most unforgettable live acts around. Frankie and the Witch Fingers continue to morph, dragging listeners into whatever warped direction their experimental journey takes next.

(April 8th, 2025) - Stereolab announces their new album, Instant Holograms On Metal Film, due May 23rd via Duophonic UHF Disks / Warp. Their first new record in 15 years includes 13 new studio recordings as well as guest contributions from Cooper Crain, Rob Frye, Ben LaMar Gay, Ric Elsworth, Holger Zapf, Marie Merlet and Molly Read. Alongside the announcement, the group shares a first glimpse into their forthcoming project with “Aerial Troubles” paired with a Laurent Askienazy-directed music video.

Ahead of the album’s official announcement, a select number of fans received a package last week stamped “unsolicited Stereolab material.” Inside was a 7” single containing “Aerial Troubles” on one side, an instrumental version on the flip, with a cryptic wordsearch insert. Similarly, posters with the band’s name appeared in several major cities with the same word grid printed on them. The band’s sign-up website has also begun slowly revealing the album cover art on the Lab Report sign-up page, with different layers gradually appearing. The 7” started landing with people on 2nd April 2025, sixteen years to the day after the group announced they were going on indefinite hiatus. As online speculation continues to grow, fans continue their attempts at solving the word search and fill-in word puzzle, wondering whether the single contained new music or something uncovered from the band’s archives.

Instant Holograms On Metal Film will be available on double vinyl LP in standard and colour variants, as well as compact disc and digital formats. The album will arrive two days ahead of the launch of their world tour in Brussels on May 25th. They will then take their discography across Europe with dates in Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris, among others. They’ll be kicking off the North American leg of the tour this coming October with shows across the United States before heading back to perform a string of shows across the UK, including a newly announced London date at Brixton Electric on December 14th.

BLEED share new single “Enjoy Your Stay” (feat. Static Dress)

Bleed share “Enjoy Your Stay” (feat. Static Dress)

Self-titled LP out May 2nd on 20 Buck Spin

See the band on tour in North America in May + June
[CHI, CLE, DEN, SLC, SEA, PDX, LA and more]

Bleed’s forthcoming self-titled LP maintains the melodic heaviness and tight song structures of their heralded debut Somebody’s Closer, while diving headfirst into the oceanic haze, pushing their sound into territory more immersive, relentless and hypnotically lush. Guitars surge and sway in stacked waves of gravitational angst, overdriven rhythms eccentrically pulsing beneath, and guitarist / singer Ryan Hughes’s voice floating in and out, sometimes distant and detached, sometimes cracked open with desperation. Lyrics move in fragments, alluding to themes of deep internal struggle, coping mechanisms and hurting those you love most. It’s music that doesn’t so much demand attention as seeps straight into the bloodstream, the kind of album that endlessly loops in the back of the mind at 3 a.m.

Bold strides are taken right out of the gate to make the authenticity of Bleed’s universe more expansive in its inspirations and ambitions. There’s a confidence to the way Bleed lets these songs unfold, they make their impact immediate and have no need to persist longer than necessary. The result is an album that feels massive yet intimate, brutal yet beautiful, familiar yet singular. It doesn’t simply leave an impression, it lingers, reverberating long after the final notes have faded.

The album's second single "Enjoy Your Stay" surfaces today and the song features a guest appearance from UK rockers Static Dress.  The band comments: “'Enjoy Your Stay' is a prime example, in our opinion, of pushing our own envelope as a band. We want to maintain aggression while not settling for a slower pace or easy licks. It’s undoubtedly a hard rock song at the core but in our own vision. It also further proves that every song on the record is pretty different from the others. We didn’t set out to accomplish that necessarily, however it’s just how it fell. It’s a testament to where we started as a band and where we are now."  They continue, "The decision to have Olli (Static Dress) on the track also came pretty naturally. We’ve maintained a lot of mutual respect for each other because we both do things our own way with no rule book. Everything they create from music to aesthetics evoke certain feelings and its intentional, and that’s how we operate."

Listen / share "Enjoy Your Stay"

Bleed's introductory EP was initially self-released through digital platforms in 2021. Despite no physical release at the time, the EP—  invoking late 90's / early 00’s era alt rock / metal—  gained the Dallas, Texas-based band a lot of buzz with its gauzy distortion balancing tension and atmosphere, and via several mutual connections came to the attention of 20 Buck Spin. The label issued vinyl and cassette editions in 2022 bringing Bleed’s music to new audiences and wider attention. Since that time the anticipation for the band’s debut full length has built to fever pitch, and at long last their new album will arrive May 2, 2025.

Nicolas Bougaïeff Shares New Track "Funktion" || Announces New EP 'Prime Funktion' Out 5/7 On NovaMute

NICOLAS BOUGAÏEFF SHARES NEW TRACK
“FUNKTION”

ANNOUNCES NEW EP PRIME FUNKTION
OUT 5/7 ON NOVAMUTE

Today Berlin-based Nicolas Bougaïeff follows the release of February’s Primal Extensions EP with the announcement of another new EP Prime Funktion. This is the second installment of his Prime EP series on NovaMute, which has already received early support from Charlotte De WitteDubfire, Boris, Laurent Garnier, and Elisa Bee.

Listen to the menacing new track, “Funktion”, HERE.

Expanding on his ongoing exploration of prime rhythms and polytemporality, Bougaïeff continues to push the boundaries of techno on Prime Funktion with intricate rhythmic frameworks and hypnotic, high-intensity club cuts.

“Funktion” is a potent, menacing track, where a shadowy synth loop repeats over hefty kicks in a dystopian fashion, driven by prime rhythmic divisions that create tension and unpredictability.

Drawing from his PhD in minimal techno and decades of experience, Bougaïeff continues his quest to expand the rhythmic possibilities of electronic music. The Prime series introduces listeners to prime rhythms, polyrhythms derived from prime number ratios that challenge traditional binary subdivisions, alongside his pivot mixing techniques, which allow seamless tempo integration. This explores what Bougaïeff calls 'temporal liberation', where intricate rhythms both literally break the constraints of traditional techno and serve as a symbolic metaphor for broader notions of personal, social and metaphysical freedom.

The artwork, created by graphic designer Ben Slater, mirrors this approach, visualizing prime rhythms as layered circular structures, where individual patterns remain independent yet momentarily align - capturing the tension between freedom and synchronization.

Beyond his releases on labels such as Mute and NovaMute, Bougaïeff co-founded Liine, creators of the Lemur music app, famously used aboard the International Space Station. He founded the Berlin Academy of Electronic Music and reaches a global audience through his online tutorials, where he explains innovative production techniques. His videos on pivot mixing have gained notable recognition among industry peers.

Nicolas Bougaïeff’s Prime Funktion will be released on NovaMute on May 7, 2025, with the single “Funktion” available today.

yeule shares album title-track "Evangelic Girl is a Gun"

YEULE SHARES TITLE TRACK “EVANGELIC GIRL IS A GUN”

EVANGELIC GIRL IS A GUN NEW ALBUM DUE MAY 30TH VIA NINJA TUNE

(April 8, 2025) - Today, yeule shares a new single and video “Evangelic Girl is a Gun,” the title track from their forthcoming album due May 30th via Ninja Tune. The song leads with a fast paced beat beneath yeule’s quick spitting lyrics almost like hushed rap verses. Throughout the song yeule prays to a divine, dark entity; a fallen angel, so beautiful yet untouchable. “Sacrificial blood industry,” they sing atop electroclash-inspired production, “Morphine Kissin; marshall stackin’, run that back again.” Their love for all things chemical and noise are crystalline in this self-scarificing prayer to the, “evangelic girl.” The song comes alongside a video co-directed by yeule and Neil Krug featuring yeule riding through a dark mythical world of their own creation.

Speaking about the title track yeule describes the song as, “An angelic blade of a dance beat with dual bpm switch ups, nostalgic synth patches Kin and I alchemised together reminiscent of early 2010s electronica. In the light of love and obsession lies the silhouette of a shadow diluted with the playful flirting of synths and drum patterns, but this time with a sexy silhouette of a shadow. Going back to experimental dark techno, but aligning it with modern inclinations of what I want to label as ‘trip club.’ Eternal light, eternal love, depth of the heart with a shallow facade. Diluting the vanta black blood that boils on rotting flesh.”

The forthcoming album, Evangelic Girl is a Gun, is yeule’s most unrestrained and emotionally baring work yet, as they grapple with ideas of a self-destructive identity burning through the canvas of post-modernity. Accompanied by still visual artworks made in collaboration with artist Vasso Vu and a video for the previous single, “Skullcrusher,” shot by Neil Krug, Ćmiel explores the duality of darkness, as well as their personal history to their role as the "painter.” Through the album’s hypnotic melodies, they present a portrait of the tortured artist trapped within an image, as Ćmiel’s haunting vocals act as an emotional chokehold atop dance beats.

Evangelic Girl is a Gun sees Ćmiel putting their own “cyborgian” spin on Bristol trip-hop and ‘90s gothic. The album features production from A.G. Cook, Chris Greatti, Mura Masa, Clams Casino, Fitnesss and Kin Leonn, Ćmiel’s trusted collaborator and co-executive producer of 2023’s softscars. yeule’s untreated vocals on the album also contribute to a sense of burning authenticity; rawness emerges as they abandon Auto-Tune. This jarring artistic styling is a turn from their glitchy previous works. As a counter to the emergence of AI, they wanted to imbue their vocals with a “raw, irreplaceable edge,” they explain.

The new singles, “Evangelic Girl is a Gun,” “Skullcrusher” and “Eko” follow their celebrated album softscars, which incorporated distorted guitars and alternative production. The arrival of softscars was met with immense critical acclaim earning their second ‘Best New Music’ stamp from Pitchfork, as well as applause from outlets such as The New York Times, The FADER, Stereogum, Alternative Press, NPR among others. The album followed their critically acclaimed 2022 release, Glitch Princess, which also received a Pitchfork ‘Best New Music’ stamp and overwhelming critical praise.

A chameleonic auteur guided by a multidisciplinary ethos, yeule crafts entire worlds and personas through their music, weaving together everything from the classical canon, hypermodern internet cultures, academic theory, the esoteric, and their own carnal desires.

Listen to “Evangelic Girl is a Gun” above, find album details below and stay tuned for more from the dexterous artist coming soon.

ART BRUT Announce New Box Set Sorry, That It Doesn't Sound Like It's Planned! Battling Satan 2009 - 2020

UK Release Show @ Fighting Cocks, Kingston - 25.04.25

5CD Deluxe Foldout 7” Packaging + 24-page Booklet
+ Signed Print
Due for Release April 25th via Edsel Records/Demon Music Group

PRE-ORDER: Art Brut - Sorry, That It Doesn't Sound Like It's Planned! Battling Satan
Pre-orderMuch-loved London “sprechgesangers” ART BRUT are delighted to announce a new box set titled  Sorry, That It Doesn't Sound Like It's Planned! Battling Satan, 2009 - 2020  that is due for release on April 25th via Edsel Records. The band will also play a special UK release show on April 25th at the Fighting Cocks, Kingston, with tickets on sale now.

Commenting on the release, front man Eddie Argos said: “I can’t wait for you all to hear these songs. Some of my absolute favourite Art Brut moments nestled in amongst our most recent three albums.

Intimate home demos, unreleased songs, lots of alternate versions and B-Sides and I’m especially glad ‘Richard Where is my Record Deal’ sung by Mike, Ian and Jasper finally gets it day in the sun, as well as Mike’s synth heavy experiments for some of Art Brut vs Satan.

Lots of treasures we’ve hoarded for years that you now get to hear for the first time! What I’m saying is, this is a box of fantastic music, with a long essay about that fantastic music by me, and you’d be an idiot not to grab a copy immediately.”

The second and final box set in the two part Art Brut compilation series rounds off Edsel Records’ retrospective on South East London based art rockers Art Brut, with a carefully curated collection of recorded works spanning from 2009 - 2020.

Featuring 5 CDs’ worth of material—from rare and unreleased home demos to full length studio albums with bonus takes—this package is a must-have for collectors and fans alike.

Containing Art Brut albums, rarities, B sides, demos and rare live cuts, this set—compiled in direct collaboration with the band and accessing unreleased music from Eddie Argos’ personal archive—is a crucial aural, written, and photographic compendium of the unique history of the band.

Featuring the albums Art Brut vs Satan (2009), Art Brut vs Satan Brutlegs and B Sides, Brilliant! Tragic! (2011), Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out! (2018) and a bonus disc of Brutlegs, Rare Live Cuts and B Sides, the 5CD fold-out set in deluxe 7” packaging also comes with a 24 page illustrated zine containing a liner note from frontman Eddie Argos, archival photography, and an original Art Brut art print (signed by Eddie Argos).

Sorry, That It Doesn't Sound Like It's Planned! Battling Satan, 2009 - 2020 is due for release on April 25th via Edsel Records/Demon Music Group.

About All Them Witches:
Versatile hard rock quartet All Them Witches thrive on contrast. Now six records deep into a tenure that began in 2012, the band is unremittingly forward-looking. There is a ferocious energy and rhythmic nuance to the band that delivers devastating guitar riffs in a raw blend of progressive, bluesy, neo-psychedelic rock. The band has relentlessly toured since inception, performing at festivals including Voodoo Music & Arts, Bonnaroo, Forecastle Festival, and Pukkelpop; while also sharing tours with acts such as Mastodon, Ghost, and Primus. All Them Witches hone their unique meld of crafted songwriting and spacious grooves on the road. They have deep musical roots and grow a heavy, visceral sound, with sheer dexterity delivered in every song.
