This book is weird.

Apparently even King himself says this book is bad, not sure if I agree with that sentiment (so far at least), but apparently this series is amazing as it goes on. This book is mercifully short at least.

You think I would be complaining again but you thought wrong.

It only took 90+ pages but now I'm actually interested with what's going on. Midpoint happened and now the story is shifting in a way I may not hate. This is quite the redemption arc

Definitely not as good as the first volume. The story at this point is muddled by its gratuitous violence and depravity, rather than enhancing it. Rose is way too passive of a character. Such a disappointment

This book is silly. It's written well but this plot is just so damn weird. A lot of people rag on this book and I am inclined to agree, but I do want to finish it because it is so short and technically my first introduction into high fantasy (a genre I've been aching to get into).

It's not egregiously bad, it's just sort of undercooked. I am enjoying it nonetheless.

Trevor Noah's mom is such an incredible woman. I seriously want to meet her to shake her hand or something, honestly started crying in the car over her dedication to becoming a good parent.

For my first Justice League comic, this is really great. The story is crazy complex, and though I miss some references, I'm still thoroughly engaged in everything that's happening. Read through most of it in one sitting (curse the time zone differences here)

I am just trying to avoid reading V for Vendetta at this point. This vacation has a lot more down time than I anticipated, so I've been reading a lot more. The internet here is still horrible.

Only read the prologue, but within those 40 pages I've had more enjoyment reading that than what I've read of V for Vendetta.

As you can probably tell, I really don't like V for Vendetta.

I think I hate most of the books I rented to keep on my phone for this 3 week vacation.

This book was just kinda boring, marred by such overblown, cheesy art. The writing isn't very strong either: aside from a small amount of flavor given between Flash and GL, the characters don't have much of an interesting dynamic. Currently forcing myself to finish to justify using my rent credits this month.

I'm scared someone hold me.

Didn't expect to see what I saw in this book, but Gaiman really did it. He really did. What an absolute mad lad.

I really did get to see a 12 year old boy get chained to the wall and get eaten by rats for several panels on end. :(

These characters are so bad; it's so egregiously black and white, where the villains are caricatures of evil in such a poorly written manner. I honestly don't know if I can bother to finish it when I have so many other books available to me, but I'm so far into it that I'll force myself.

(hello from a sketchy hotel with actual internet)

Currently chilling in South Korea for my stop over (the Seoul Airport is the greatest airport in the world don't @ me).

Also was nearing on tears listening to this, you can just feel the love and admiration he has for his family in his tone of voice. I went from laughing at poop worship to sort of crying at the way he describes his life. This book is amazing.

Currently chilling in the JFK airport before I embark on a 24 hour flight, into a country with notoriously bad internet. Will probably listen to this in one sitting.

The audiobook to this is insanely good, read by Trevor Noah himself. Only on the first chapter but I love it already.

This book is apolitical, and focuses only on his experiences growing up in South Africa during apartheid.

Welp, that's it folks. This will be my last update for a while as I go to a country for 3 weeks with shoddy internet (I have a HUGE backlog of books and audiobooks on my phone). I'll miss all who actually read my updates.

As for V for Vendetta, still not really vibing with this book as much as I thought I would. I may as well finish it on this 24 hour flight I'm on.

Bye bye everyone!

Oh boy I'm not even that far in and I'm already nervous about the quality of the book. I am not finding any of these characters interesting, the art is kind of grimy, nor is the dialogue that well written. Hopefully this book picks up otherwise I'm in for a long read. I feel disappointed already

So I'm probably about to sprint read this since I have got to finish this by the 10th (of which I leave). I usually can read 343 pages within two months (like IT'S NOT EVEN THAT LONG) but I JUST KEEP GETTING SIDETRACKED.

The book is still pretty strong though, and I find myself feeling kinda disturbed for feeling empathy for these guys. This book is a masterpiece - so incredible that I can't wait to write about it.

Not a book I'm going to be binge reading, but rather some light reading to keep me occupied as I leave for 3 weeks without internet. That Greco-Roman mythology class I took seriously ignited my interest for mythology, and so far this has been a great, tongue-in-cheek retelling of the brutally weird myths.

When will I ever finish this book?

Got to that point of the book where it solidified my stance on this book being so morbid and so interesting at the same time. The book keeps you at a distance from being sympathetic with the characters, while keeping interest by revealing their messed up livelihood that trapped them in such a life. It's such an interesting slow burn of a book.

On the penultimate chapter, and while I still enjoy reading it - its substance is starting to stretch itself thin. Still, I am taking away things from this personally and will use this stuff in my lifestyle, even if my enjoyment of the book is starting to wane.

Probably going to be one of the last books I read before going on vacation for 3 weeks. Sorry I can't make it to the next discussion my book club friends.

I can't wait to read this though; I've heard only good things about this and I'm looking to try to get back into graphic novels. So far, it hasn't really done much to impress me but I'm anticipating there to be much more to this.

After a bit of a lull, this book is actually getting interesting again, actually saying something else besides its usual mantra of "hack down on the unessentials".

Shame I didn't finish it before my book club's discussion, there were some bopping quotes in here that I would like to have mentioned.

I am beginning to fall out of love with this book, where it is starting to repeat the same themes once again just with a different choice of words. It is a book full of highlights and cool quotes, but the sum of its parts does not add up into a read that changes my lifestyle.

Currently listening to the audiobook of this with my brother, and have been really enjoying it. It is super serious and grim so far, but that really reinforces his message. As an added bonus with the audiobook, in-between the chapters it has David Groggins himself reflecting upon it with his ghostwriter. Very good so far, it's making me feel pathetic in all the right ways.

Honestly not digging this book as I anticipated. Even if you knew nothing about Communism, this is really obvious as an allegory - down to the flat characters who show little to no ambiguity as to what they represent. It's more like documenting a sequence of events than an actual riveting narrative. It's not egregiously boring, but I'm not exactly expecting to call this a favorite by the end.

It was a free audiobook that was only a little over an hour long, so I figured: "why not?" It isn't as deep as I thought it would be, and so far it's not living up to its legendary status, as the points Sun Tzu states are a bit trite now, or completely unrelated to my current condition.
