The first chapter is so effing good! Beautiful writing.

A 86-year old Nikola Tesla reminisces about his life, his inventions, his would-have-been inventions and more. With a pigeon. It is still unclear whether there is actual magical realism or if the elderly Tesla is finding it hard to see the thin line between reality and delusion. But I'm loving it so far.

Nothing of importance happened until now :O This has been such a let down so far. Hope it gets better because this is an essential quintet that setups up the Fitz and the Fool trilogy which I want to read so badly.

Not everyone can afford a fresh start. Some people burn away too much of their soul in their first attempt to be strong enough to start over. Call them fools or weaklings for having only made one attempt. If they weren't those things at the beginning, they will be when fate is done with them.

Like fruits, some memories go through the entire cycle of life. Raw at first. Ripened and sweetened next. Canceroulsy rotten in the end. Oh! If only such memories could fall and fade away from the grey cells and synapses of my brain of their own accord like spoiled fruit falling from a tree. My hands tremble at the task of severing memories, ripe or rotten. My heart dreads that it will never be whole again.

"Madness were easy to bear compared with truth like this"

P.S: When complicated and convoluted thoughts are put into such simple and sensible words, it provides both a sense of comfort and endless misery. A sense of comfort due to the fact that someone else has expressed in simple words to this world what you thought were feelings that would die in your throat. An endless misery because it is yet the truth.

His unchained passion, and with it all meaning of life, met its end not at the hands of invincible fate, but at a crack in the illusion kept up by his loved ones to mislead him into believing that he was a thing of unique beauty for being so fiercely passionate in pursuit of his lofty dreams, while in truth they believed him to be an absolute madman.

PS: Don't fuel a lie to make a sad man happy. Do not call it love.

This book strips down human psychology into atoms and lays bare the most deepest things that drive our thoughts and actions.

Though the story is narrated by a spiteful misanthrope(yaay!!) with no respect for himself, the things he talks about are common to every human.

I can relate to this narrator so well. I'm going to end up in a dreadful existential crisis by the end(as if I've not been in one since my teens).

"Even if I had had magnanimity, I should only have had more suffering from the sense of its uselessness. I should certainly have never been able to do anything from being magnanimous-neither to forgive, for my assailant would perhaps have slapped me from the laws of nature, and one cannot forgive the laws of nature; nor to forget, for even if it were owing to the laws of nature, it is insulting all the same."

I've been reading a lot of fantasy and magical realism books lately and I wanted to write something. I haven't written anything recently, thanks to writer's block among other things.

The first chapter is called The Box in the Cupboard and it's up on my old blog for anyone interested in reading it :D

Reread.

A warning to others. Don't go over the internet to find out 'why this story was written' or 'what's the meaning of this book', because there are some pretty, let us say, unsettling theories about its creation. :/

Read by Jake Gyllenhaal!!! I like how he chooses unusual and mindfuck movie scripts to act in, always delivering stunning performances. An awesome actor.

I'm sure his narration of his classic is great. But I hope the story itself is good too, I've always avoided reading this well acclaimed classic for some reason.

I read only 1 Nancy Drew story when I was a kid. I think it's The Missing Horse. I remember liking the whole mystery and detective stuff.

But I don't have a good feeling about this one. I usually don't like 'dead man's will' sort-of mysteries. But the audiobook read by Laura Linney is done very well, with mysterious music added here and there to up the tension.

I've finally got around to organizing my books this weekend. I've been putting it for too long, my bedroom started to look like a junkyard, columns of books everywhere.

Next weekend I will probably sort the books by author/series within each genre-specific shelf. The whole wall looks too crammed with books, need to work on making it look aesthetic and pleasant to the eyes.
