If living in a society did not require playing a game of 4-dimensional chess* that involved politics behind relationships, businesses behind friendships, unspoken contracts of repayment behind unselfish sacrifices, calculating advantages of every hand shake, I'd have given more f**ks than I do now for putting in an effort towards having an active social life.

On the other hand, I'm content with books as friends :D

I've been to a bookstore today and noticed a shelf lined with classics published by Random House. The covers of these books were awesome.

They felt good on touch, some sort of rubbery material. They had quotes from the book carved out on the rubbery surface in a typographic style (₹799 each).

Too bad I've already spent too much money on books in the last few months :(

Soon, I'll come back for you very soon!

There is a massive increase in the number of American readers who have stopped reading Stephen King's works in the past few months. The general feeling is that they are experiencing enough horror due to Trump and his administration that will last a lifetime. 'Made up horror? No thanks!', said one Stephen King reader who requested to be anonymous.

P.S: I'm just paraphrasing something a redditor wrote. It's on point.

I've not read 1984 by George Orwell this year yet. But I will, in the next few days. Looking at what is and has been happening in USA since Trump became president is disgraceful and scary.

Did you know that the TVs in FDA building are tuned to Fox news and the channel cannot be changed? Yeah. This is what dictorships look like. It reminds me of 1984 where the citizens have access to only 1 new source.

I'm excited to be finally reading Urusla K. Le Guin. I recieved the first four books of Earthsea today and had a little fun making an abstract cover art of the actual cover :D

Matilda's father sounds like Donald Trump.

"I've got a fine brain"

Sigh. Yes, Donald, you've got a brain as fine as sand on a beach. In fact, I'm not a doctor or anything, but I think your brain is made of it too.

2nd time. This time listening to narration by Kate Winslet :)

I love listening to audiobooks done by movie actors :D

I think I'll reread The BFG after this, I want to giggle at the cobbleswollopy, stinky snozzcumbery words of Roald Dahl.

When Bellatrix reposnds to Harry mentioning Voldemort by his name by saying, "You dare say his name".

I wish Harry reacted to this by singing "Voldemort, Voldemort, voldy, voldy, Voldemort" in Potter puppet pals style.

PS: Oh, puppet pals brings so many memories :(

Dear Goodreads,

I see that you guys quietly slipped in advertisements into your Android app. And all the ads are related to Amazon.

Are you fucking kidding me? I don't need to be a statistician or do a research to tell that most people who are on Goodreads used Amazon even before they knew what Goodreads was. So it's fucking illogical and intrusive to put Amazon ads into app.

Sincerely,
An agitated goodreader

After Ward no. 6, I have to reread this one. I love classics that deal with existentialism. The writing style of those times combined with existential thought provides for a goosebumpy read.

"In each of us, two natures are at war – the good and the evil. All our lives the fight goes on between them, and one of them must conquer. But in our own hands lies the power to choose – what we want most to be, we are."

"A doctrine which advocates indifference to wealth and to the comforts of life, and a contempt for suffering and death, is quite unintelligible to the vast majority of men, since that majority has never known wealth or the comforts of life; and to despise suffering would mean to it despising life itself, since the whole existence of man is made up of the sensations of hunger, cold, injury, and dread of death."

"Superstition and all the nastiness and abominations of daily life were necessary, since in process of time they worked out to something sensible, just as manure turns into black earth. There was nothing on earth so good that it had not something nasty about its first origin."

I don't agree with the first part, but goddammit, Chekhov writes some stirring prose about philosophy.

That's probably how I look in a bookstore, trying to read the titles. Makes up for a good neck excercise routine, I think. Wake up, do your other fitness stuff and try to read titles of books on your shelf for a few minutes.

"People who have an official, professional relation to other men's sufferings—for instance, judges, police officers, doctors—in course of time, through habit, grow so callous that they cannot, even if they wish it, take any but a formal attitude to their clients; in this respect they are not different from the peasant who slaughters sheep and calves in the back-yard, and does not notice the blood."

2nd read this year. I loved the derpessing atmosphere and the existential arguments thrown back and forth between a mental institution inmate and the visiting doctor.

Some of the prose and scenes in this book are hauntingly beautiful and profound. The way the story shapes up is unsettling.

Yaaaay, I completed 100 books in the first 4 months of this year. I read some 5-20 page fiction like 'Go the fuck to sleep', some 50-100 page classics and children's books like Metamorphosis and The BFG, and I've read some times like Farseer and Liveship Traders trilogies and I've read Harry Potter series 1.5 times :P among other great, good, bad books.

I don't think I can keep this pace up for much longer :/
