I'm bored?
To the book's credit, I think me not reading a few chapters in a single stretch has some part to play in the impression this book's on me so far. On the contrary, the book should have offered something great to force me into reading a few chapters at once. It did for a while, but... Aaaargghh. I can sense a reader's block coming.
Full steam ahead for Harry Potter reread then :D

I have a terrible case of
tsundoku
.
P. S.: Tsundoku is a Japanese word that has no direct synonym in English. It means, 'the act of leaving a book unread after buying it, typically piling it up together with other such unread books.'

God, the quidditch world cup in the book reminds me of my childhood when I used to play the Warner Bros and EA games on my computer. I remember playing the quidditch world cup game a lot. And the dedicated games for each book. I think I played only the first 3 games and then gave up playing the 4th when I was failing to overcome a particular level. Lord, the memories! I'm old, fuck!

When a character name is
Myrddraal
and you realize it sounds very similar to
Murder all
and you now sort of know what to expect from this good dude from now on.

In my opinion, this is the weakest book of the series unfortunately, what will all the awesomeness of Dragons, Quidditch World Cup and Triwizard tournament.
HP memes are such fun, hahaha...

Interesting so far. Bel Tine isn't going to end well, is it?

It's incredible how greatly plotted the whole series is. Threads and fleeting world building elements in book 1 tie up perfectly int plot well into the series.
I realized that Harry's Divination examination is awesome for more reasons than the dark lord prophecy by Trelawney. She says Buckbeak dies. He bluffs that he sees it flying away. Both 'predictions' come true! Christ, Rowling! Foreshadowing and red-herrings!

Damn good prologue! Lewis Therin Telamon reminded of a certain character in Stormlight Archive :D
Guys, I don't know if I want to step into Wheel of Time. 15 books 😰 How many eras(new set of characters and new plot) does this series have? How does it compare to the diverse magic systems, setting and tone of Cosmere universe by Brandon Sanderson?

The world is in balance, in Equilibrium. A wizard's power of Changing and of Summoning can shake the balance of the world. It is dangerous, that power. It is most perilous. It must follow knowledge, and serve need. To light a candle is to cast a shadow…”

I just read somewhere that Ursula K Le Guin is credited(contentious, I guess) for introducing the idea of wizard/magic school in the fantasy genre.
Sparrowhawk
is about to enter the school of wizardry, I'm excited.

R.I.P Ursula K Le Guin.
I was looking forward to reading her SF/F works this year. I'd do that sooner rather than later now. I've heard many people call them masterpieces and genre defining works. Even though I've not read anything by her, I frequently, almost on a daily basis, search her name in used book websites because I wanted to collect her books before I eventually got to them
Anyone of you read her works?

I just learned that
Brandon Sanderson
teaches a course on writing...
and there are
videos of these lessons on youtube!!!
I only watched the 'World Building' video and found it informative and helpful. Clueless wannabe writers who are looking(dreading) to kick off their first project might find this playlist helpful.

Hyderabad Book Fair 2018 was mainly for Indian publishers and regional languages, there were almost 350 stalls. There are some pretty good deals on English books and I found a few used books that I've been waiting to read.
I was shocked to find a Guy Gavriel Kay book, I actually made a little fist bump in the air when I saw it among a score of uninteresting books!

Me: I'm going to Hyderabad Book Fair 2018.
Mom, Dad look at me with exasperation.
Mom: You are crazy. You are going to buy books again?
Dad: How many did you buy last week?
Mom: You still haven't read half the books you have bought.
Sister: He has bought 10 books last week, mom.
Me: I'm going.

Assassin's Apprentice (The Farseer Trilogy, #1)
Horses and dogs dream, as anyone who has ever watched a hound yipping and twitching in dream pursuit well knows. Their dreams had been like the sweet rising waft from a baking of good bread. But now, isolated in a room walled with stone, I finally had time for all those devouring, aching dreams that are the portion of humans. I had no warm dam to cozy against, no sense of siblings or kin stabled nearby.

I fell in love with Robin Hobb's writing last year when I first read this book. I went on to binge read the next 8 books. I'm yet to complete
Rain Wild Chronicles
quintet and the final
Fitz and the Fool
trilogy.
I'm going to reread the first 3 trilogies before continuing with the rest of the series. I'm trying not to choke up after reading the first page. This series is emotionally devastating! :|

I'm very close to DNFing this book. I'm just not able to get into this stuff. And the first person POV doesn't seem right for this story.

"A scattering of humanity waited in silence for friends or family to ride in from their altered carbon exiles.
Download Central.
These people wouldn’t recognize their loved ones in their new sleeves; recognition would be left to the homecomers, and for those who awaited them the anticipation of reunion would be tempered with a cool dread at what face and body they might have to learn to love."
