DNF. I should really listen when my friends tell me a character is a "Not Like All the Other Girls" type.

Oh, man. Classic Clayborn goodness.

Ugh. DNF. I was hating everything and everyone.

It starts. With a snake.

LOLOL. This is a contemporary romance a la Robin McKinley's BEAUTY, and I'm here for it.

Everybody on this book keeps telling on themselves. They're all awful in their own ways and they all think they're utterly special.

Yeah. I'm listening to this yet again. I had a lot to do today and my last audiobook was a huge disappointment, so I'm doing a comfort re-listen...

This is a reread of a book I probably first read the summer of 1988 or 89. I'd read it a few additional times, but not recently, and I had cause to remember its existence recently, deciding to seek out a used copy. I was a bit afraid that I'd remember the personal politics of the hero through rose-colored glasses, but so far so good. And the writing is CRACKING.

It's so cute how nobody realizes they're actually in a relationship...

Seriously. Kearsley is so good at connecting themes.

I'm calling this a DNF. It's just too damn boring. I realized the only reason I was continuing was the narration, but not even Armitage can make this book not-dull.

I'm listening to this (love Xe Sands) but MAN the contrast between this (where a white woman calls the cops on a guy prowling around the abandoned property next door) and When No One is Watching (which I'm also currently reading) is STARK.

This book is going to give me a heart attack...

Ugh. Getting close to a DNF on this one. Too bad. I was really excited about it and I enjoy the narrator a whole hell of a lot.

UUUGH. Characters being almost willfully ignorant about who the bad guy is--when there is AN ABUNDANCE OF EVIDENCE is a pet peeve of mine.

This is such a cute book but OH MY GOD it gets traction when the hero’s moms get in the mix. I love them. I want their story.

I AM SUCH A SUCKER FOR FAKE RELATIONSHIP. Seriously. I’m utter trash for this trope. Put me in the bin. Especially, perhaps, when it’s “let’s make your awful ex jealous.”

Garbage, me.

Yes, this book is my catnip.

The younger sisters apparently got their vile, selfish, bratty temperaments from their grandmother...

I rarely read NA because the characters (rightly) tend to be such Bad Decisions Pandas. Sarina Bowen's NA is an exception to this rule for some reason (maybe because her universe is very intertwined and I get to see characters from other books).

Dylan is DEFINITELY a BDP. And Chastity wants to be one. But I'm enjoying it. Even though his taste for Mean Girls is TRAGIC.

Holy wow what an opening.

Holy mother but there are a lot of “long moments” in this book (it’s been a very long time since I read a deLint book, there are probably lots of “long moments” in all of them).

“He wasn’t a dirty talker. He was...a beautiful talker. Those gorgeous, warm, honey tones told her she was beautiful, and clever, and caring.”

Mmmm....

YES, FINE. YOU FUCKERS GOT ME.

But seriously, I’ve scored about 15 of these from the library for my post-surgery convalescence. Yes, I’m starting early. Stop looking at me like that.

Good lord, but the sister-in-law is a conniving little shit. Also, the heroine verges on TSTL and the hero assumes wayyy too much based on zero evidence. Anyway.

“Pussy,” “sissy,” “girly.”

Make these synonyms for “weak man” and I’m going to start hating a book right quick.
