Fingers crossed I'm not interrupted by anything and can finish this today! Tense thriller so far!

I'm feeling mixed about this story but I also feel like if I reread this in a few years I'll like it more? Like it needs to marinate in my brain a while. Catriona Ward is a great writer though, and this is a very well-written story.

Um, this is super fun. Why does that surprise me? It's Big Brother at House on Haunted Hill (1999 - very specifically this version lol), in HH Holmes murder hotel (basically).

Catty, catty, catty! Lots of one-liners, I'm kind of loving it? Very Scream Queens, but a bit less mean.

This book is far more meaty than I expected...

I was looking forward to this - loved Ward's Little Eve, but I have a hard time with first person present tense, which is what this novel is in so far, and the narrator (I got the audiobook from NetGalley) is... not great. Actually, he is a man who does not do a convincing male voice but hasn't done badly with the women lol I'll stick it out because I want to give Ward a chance though. Maybe he'll grow on me.

Almost halfway in and it feels like nothing remotely interesting has happened? Slice of ("normal") life stories don't seem to be my thing. I think someone like my sister, who grew up obsessed with The Hills and Road Rules, would be more interested in this - it feels very MTV reality show featuring Gen Z. I feel OLD reading this lol

These characters are all terrible people, and this story is weird and wild and more than just a little goofy. Classic Grady Hendrix, lol

hm, almost halfway and no zombie apocalypse? I thought that was what was going to happen, but right now it's an investigative mystery that just happens to involve people who turn into zombies ("ghouls" or "hollow") only when they're starving, otherwise they're mostly normal.

Interesting but not what I was expecting. I'm hoping for more action to come...

Technically started this Sunday but just realized I never updated that here. This is another NetGalley arc. Books releases April 25th, so trying to finish it before then, if everything else in life doesn't get in the way! First chapter was good and I'm already looking forward to the rest!

This is a super cute and enjoyable murder mystery! I love the setting, and the characters, even though it's all been very easy to figure out it's still enjoyable following the protagonist while she's still working it all out.
