Still not as bad as The Guest List, but still barely a mystery. Lucy Foley's stories are more "inside in the lives of horrible people" than murder mysteries, ugh.

Debated reading this after not being impressed with The Guest List, but I had already bought the audiobook... it's meh so far but I'm still liking it better than The Guest List.

LOVING THIS. It's very Grave Encounters! Totally my vibes.

If you're a fan of found footage horror, I recommend this. It's kind of epistolary in how it's presented with magazine articles, journal entries, and screenplay like descriptions of film footage from the crew of of Fade To Black (the book's fictional ghost hunter show). I'm into it!!

67% through but it feels like we're at the climax... what on earth is the rest of this book?? Lots of exciting action... but this is definitely more fantasy/action than horror :( I wanted a good scary Christmas story.

Oh my god it is PAINFUL how dumb and incompetent Jesse is!! What an absolute idiot... I'm honestly hoping he ends up dying because he's literally too dumb to live.

The protagonist is super dumb, making all the wrong decisions, but the action is great and I'm digging the mythology!

Play a Halloween session of Call of Cthulhu with friend tonight (I'm the story-teller), so why not read some Arkham Horror to get in the mood?

What even is this book?! It's insane. Animalist, stream-of-consciousness, I'm not even a mother a fricking feeling everyone ounce of this woman's feelings and omg is it INTENSE. I am already writing my review. I've gone from meh to holy shit this is wild and amazing and absolutely great. Reminds me a bit of the movie 'Men', an incredibly feminist 'horror' (real life?) movie from earlier this year. A hard, great read.

What a weird protagonist.

I chose this because it was compared to Until Dawn, and I love Until Dawn. The stories are similar but the big difference is that the characters in Until Dawn are likable (even the jerks), and the characters in The Shuddering are not. When you don't care when characters die... Unless it pulls out a great ending I can see this being 3 stars or less. Meh.

Don't know how I managed to request two such similar books from NetGalley... just finished The Dark Between The Trees, very much in the vein of The Ritual and The Blair Witch Project, and now Briardark looks to be the same thing. Spooky liminal woods. I'm into though.

Oh, and I also recently red The Sacrifice by Rin Chupero, which while set in the Philippines, is also of the same vibes! How weird.
