Joe Bolin > Recent Status Updates

In my review of Lies Come Easy, I noted my disappointment with the direction this series has taken, bringing in billionaires and world-class musicians. I also swore that I was done with the series, but...when you've known someone for 40 years (as I've known Bill Gastner), it's hard to step away and astonishingly easy to forgive. I'm reading the next installment in the series now.

So many reviews mention the slow pace of the first three-quarters of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, but I've not felt that as I've read the novel. I'm now in the final section and excited to see what happens with Coriolanus and Lucy Gray!

I hate to criticize any novel written by Michael Connelly, but The Narrows reminds me of those old Batman movies and the questions they brought to mind: how does the Penguin afford to hire all those henchmen? Where does the millions of dollars the Joker spends on equipment come from? Is there a special super-villains fund they can draw from? Are they billionaires, like Bruce Wayne?
