After the author’s death, completion of the book was done by two friends. I admire their attempt, but the narrative thread is lost. The final part of the book—just when it should be cracking to a finale—is instead as dry as dirt.

seriously, asking myself, “why did I put off reading this for so long?“ Brilliantly written book.

A good ending...a bit ridiculous, perhaps, but it does wrap things up for ALL of the characters.

This book has gotten much better since we moved past the mystery of who killed Marshall and into the relationship between the main characters.

This book is very disappointing, written with a purposeful cuteness that would have been more effective and enjoyable if handled more casually.

The author jumps all over the place and the internal monologues and cutesy conversations are hard to follow.

I think the author has made Vera a full decade too young to match the details of the novel. She should be 70 rather than sixty, which would make clear her income source (and would actually be old, which 60 just isn’t).

The cozy genre of mystery is fun, but I prefer procedural, I guess.

I’m enjoying this simple mystery story with stock characters from Central Casting.

Simple and enjoyable to read…and with recipes!

In addition to the elements of a cozy, this book also has a big helping of romance.

So far, this is a perfect cozy: charming setting, familiar character types, obvious heroine and villain. Just what I needed...and situated in a cannabis cafe....with recipes!

Why can’t he just write AT&T? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it as A T and T and it bugs me!

It’s great to see Harry, Mickey, and the gang again, but the plot of this book just seems so unlikely that it is difficult to enjoy.

Something is changing in Harry’s attitude toward his brother and the whole occupation of defense lawyering. I stopped on page 190 for a reason; I was so shocked that Harry accepting of Mickey’s ethical corner cutting.

Connelly is writing the relationship between Bosch and Haller differently than I expected: the affection from earlier times is absent now. I wonder why?

This is just as good as I expected it to be.

I’m a little sad to have reached the “June” chapter of this excellent book. Like a school year, it means my time with these folks is coming to an end.

I don’t know how to feel about the “issue essays“ included at the end of each chapter. They interrupt the flow of the narrative so much.
