Joseph has finally been born! Only took 280 pages for the birth of the eponymous character of the novel.

Weird to be so far through the volume and still have three more to go just to read one novel. I do appreciate the lightness of each volume, though. Formatting differences between the books of the two great civilizations aside, this book is turning out to look really good. Crazy woman wants to fight the great villain all alone. 李寻欢 doesn't understand and asks, "You wanna marry yourself?!?"

Not quite as good as that other Durrell book I read a couple weeks ago, but still a fascinating jaunt through his earlier years and his experiences with animals.

That red kid has the worst attitude of all the nasty children of wuxiadom I know of. What wretched parents to raise a boy without the fortitude to teach him not to kill anybody he wants.

Such a good read. The evils Christians have worked against their Jewish neighbors throughout almost all of Christian history are too often forgotten for the great evil of the Holocaust. But the Holocaust was no sui generis, but one step in the long path of genocidal hatred which has so characterized the European peoples.

After a few weeks of almost no Chinese, I'm back at it. Boy did I miss it. 我喜欢华人的文华和小说。

Book one was amazing, definitely a five star. Book two trudged along quite slowly and I was never really sure what the point was, though it has become clearer now. Book three is why I read the novel to begin with, so with such hopes I'll probably end up disappointed.

So many dead bodies! The plot is forming much more certainly now. The first couple chapters left me pretty confused, but now it all makes complete sense. This is turning out to be a lot better than I had expected. Still 1100 pages to go, I hope I can double my speed eventually and finish by June. After all, I do have the 10-volume 蜀山剑侠传 on its way any day now, or maybe 鹿鼎记.
