I like what he has to say but the way he says it is literally painful to read. He thinks he's so clever with all these idiotic puns and unreadable coinings but they turn what should have been an important book into trash. And the polemics come off so heavy that it might even be a more intolerable aspect of this book than the mindless wordsmithing.

Lots of stuff I've never heard about, but perhaps surprisingly, a lot more I already knew about. Growing up watching old movies is probably the reason for that.

I wonder what Allen would say today upon learning that most of the movies featuring those big stars of the 1910s and into the '20s are now lost. Only 5 remain of Marguerite Clark's filmography, by Wikipedia's reckoning.

One flaw in Hagen's reasoning lately is this odd insistence on a Manichæan separation between Particularists and Generalists. He himself seems squeamish about the really absurd CTs; he seems a Generalist in some cases.

Better yet to envision a spectrum with everyone seated along it from the conspiracy ideation of some to slavish anti-conspiracism at the other end. He's near the middle talking to those ¼ over.

It's mostly just a collection of articles he wrote in the '80s. They generally all say the same thing in sometimes different words. Sure, he's got wit and a passion for cutting through the nonsense, which, tinged with a sometimes antisemitic and often conspiracist mentality, can't quite make this book work.

If you're saying he's wrong not to cite something, wouldn't it make sense to cite it yourself if only to prove that it exists? Otherwise you might be lambasting him for not citing something that isn't real to begin with!

So far not too bad. He sounds a little too biased at times. He clearly has his favorite conspiracy theories and often cites what on the face of it appear to be dubious sources without explanation.

How many more times can a girl be tied up before the end of the book? Guys, too. Everyone's getting tied up all the time. It's a bondage classic. And it's getting pretty repetitive, which is to be expected of such old cycles of adventures. It's still as spellbinding as ever, especially with this latest kink (no pun intended) in the plot with the voice behind the iron door.

I'm starting to think that anybody who'd read this book and call Finkelstein an antisemite must be profoundly classist. Imagine thinking that to condemn wealthy individuals who used their power to steal directly from Holocaust victims is antisemitic just because those wealthy individuals are Jews, totally oblivious to the fact that he's actually speaking for the doubly victimized and mostly not wealthy Jewish masses.
