What's up with this bizarre mixing of Pinyin and Wade-Giles? Liu Bei (or Bai sometimes?!?) versus Tsao-Tsao? Very peculiar. Perhaps he chose the pronunciation he thought would be easier for his young readers?

Why does it seem that Gildong alone is capable of performing feats of magic? Surely he's not the only person with access to the Yi Jing! The king sends out so many soldiers and officials to capture him but not a single sorcerer!

That said, the socio-political message that stands just slightly beneath the surface are quite worthy of further consideration. Korea has always been so stratified.

This is probably the most vocally polemical book I've ever read, the most one-sided, a total whitewashing of everything Taiwan and a total demonization of everything China. The fools who wrote it are either so deluded they honestly believe they are neutral or they think their readers are too big of fools to realize that they are the furthest thing from neutral.

It always strikes me as so bizarre when a book almost entirely uses Pinyin but then suddenly throws a word in Wade-Giles in for good measure. It's not like the author doesn't know the difference, like when one uses both recent and older sources and doesn't know to standardize, nor is he quoting from an older text. It's his own word. Why?!?

Those damn physiognomists, always ruining lives for personal profit.

Now it's really getting interesting.

He simply has too much faith in people. It's refreshing, really, but it also makes it hard to take him seriously at times. A teaching passed on by an earlier practitioner is true simply because he was such an upright person so why would he lie?

This isn't a bad story by any means. Way more exciting than 九州•缥缈录.

Now it's getting interesting. The weird old Confucian wants to teach the hero martial arts in one night so he can beat an evil girl who has promised to marry the boy if he can beat her. Something of the opposite of what happens in 射雕英雄传, wherein the mischievous but good 黄蓉 entices masters to teach her beloved martial arts so he can become powerful enough to convince her father of his worth.

21 chapters in. I need to pick up the pace! I really enjoy this story. It's very readable. I should be reading a chapter a day rather than one or two per week! 七郎 just found his bride he didn't know he had! They got married in her mountain stronghold and then he left the next day.
