Absolutely in love with this book so far. Probably the most likely 5 I've begun this year.

Are they ever going to leave the crypt, the 古墓? I'd thought from the first few chapters that this book might just be better than 射雕英雄传, and it has been good, but it's getting a bit boring. The 林朝英 arc isn't as interesting and I miss 郭靖.

Not the best written. Too repetitive. But very interesting to see how anti-fitness Americans had been before the '60s (and beyond, right up to today).

I'm in love with this story. Traditional literature is timeless for a reason; it can entrance dozens of generations.

Such an exciting story, full of exhilarating ups and tear-inducing downs. It's a simple story, of course, but that doesn't reduce its merit one bit.

Who would have thought sexuality could be soooo boring?! Especially coming from somebody as sexually devious as the great Foucault. I'll assume that this is because vol. 1 is "Introduction", for introductions tend to be boring, and look forward to vol. 2.

More readable than the Moss Roberts translation and sometimes, surprisingly, more accurate. Not often, though. And the tendency not to name minor characters, simply stating "two people" did so and so, is really annoying to me. But to anybody not heavily invested in the novel, this might be the translation to choose.
