The section on death is tiresome; like there's all this about one's OWN death, but nothing about the death of others.

Ugh. I can't find the source of it, but a novel I read once talked about a character's death as perceived by others, saying something like "We don't mourn his loss of life; what we mourn is the loss of him in our own lives." That distinction is vital.

Very much like Jack Sparrow: "The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can't do." However, for the Stoics, it's all about control. The thing is, that creates a false binary. Some things you can't control, but you can influence. And that matters. And to claim that it doesn't is erroneous.

Oof, these Stoics are coming from SUCH a place of privilege. Probably most philosophers are, though. Doesn't seem to be something you could use your time on if you're scrounging to care for your family.

I'm losing interest fast. Why is everyone a dude?

Oooo, the inexorable pull. I get it. I so get it.

We still don't fully understand gravity, and that's simpler than this – the very specific pull to someone in particular, someone who isn't foundational but is structurally central.
