Maverick has found out that he has a son. The mother has postpartum depression and so he has to be more involved than he thinks he's ready for.

Del is a serious jerk, and he's clueless too. I hope they get the class un-cancelled.

I find this interesting not only because it's in dialogue, and therefore a perfectly reasonable choice even if not 'standard,' but also because on page 10, in dialogue, is the sentence: "Lot's of it." Now, that's not a complete sentence, but again, IMO it doesn't matter in dialogue.

The apostrophe, however, is an error that has nothing to do with dialogue. And the previous reader-editor did not mark it. (2/2)

It's an interesting start, but what I'm MOST intrigued by is the light correction in pencil on page 11. The first-person protagonist asks, "Do either of you recognize her?" and a previous reader has marked a line through 'Do' and written 'Does' below it. (1/2)

p 9: "It was clear to me that I was unable to mention color in the classroom.... In other words, we showed respect by completely ignoring black people as black people. Color blindness was the essence of the creed."
