4A – I definitely have a lot of connections, as bell hooks is writing from the perspective of a teacher. She talks about the struggles and joys of teaching, and they're ones I've experienced as well, which helps make it relatable. Even though this was published in 2005, when she says "I ask them why they have so much fear about speaking their minds" (28), it seems VERY similar to what's going on today.

I am probably going to need to put this on my to-purchase list as I regularly find myself wanting to write in the margins!

That does not happen with every student, though. And how many students might have their lives changed by a whole semester of Morrison, or Angelou, or Garcia Marquez?
