Pt. 1 done. These last few pages were really long & exciting. Little by little, more is revealed about Elantris. But also: Sarene unknowingly undoing Raoden's work, Hrathen seeing his power waning (in favour of "evil" Dilaf), Sarene taking matters in her own hands, making Elantris look less evil in in the process (her widow's trial). But also, Shaor isn't a man, but who is she really? Can she be stopped? Converted?

Haven't been able to read the past few days (due to external circumstances), which annoys me, because I'm really liking the story so far, but you have to stay focused, I find.

Liking it very much so far: the writing style, the intrigues (incl. how religion is used to obtain political power, whether one is a believer or not; the means justify the end), how Raoden wants to turn around the chaos and misery in Elantris (contrary to what others and outsiders have in mind), ...

I probably should not have read that Brandon Sanderson book, because I lost the thread of this story a little. :/ Luckily Audrey repeated a few things, but still... it's best to read on. :P

The Emperor's Soul: I can see why it's put together with Legion, as both stories share the theme about souls, about the mind, ... (for example). This is very well written and exciting. Love it! :)

Legion: Stephen Leeds, a schizophrenic with various hallucinations (all well worked out, I must say, and very sympathetic), is hired to help investigate the disappearance of Balubal Razon, inventor of a camera that can take pictures of the past; something that can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Very exciting, original, and captivating. Excellent novella! See also https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

This is a very entertaining read so far, indeed in vein of, for example, Terry Pratchett (the author is a Pratchett-fan, so...). It's got humour, it's got wit. :) Compared to Bourdieu's style (totally different genre, I know), this is a walk in the park, obviously.

I should have finished the book by now, because it reads quite smoothly, I must say. But circumstances have not been favourable these past days, hence reading taking a bit more time.

Great list. :) But I still have a lot of reading to do. Read and tbr (for the time being, obviously) in the comments. Let's focus on those first, no?

This reads quite smoothly, I must say. SF, yes, but not hard (to understand). I'm liking it a lot so far. Also, uplifting animals, isn't it similar to David Brin's The Uplift Saga (which I've yet to read)? Last, Adrian must be fond of spiders, as he has them playing a role here & in another novel, Spiderlight (not read).

A perfect read after Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman (or The Prose Edda by Sturluson, for example), as Anderson took norse mythology and fantasy to write this story in a very poetic and beautifully worded fashion. So far, so good.

I feel a new book buying ban coming up. Still on my wish-list for this year, though, at least these:
* Destinations (Anthologie des Imaginales 2017), due in June
* the third book (in the Bâtard de Kosigan series) by Fabien Cerutti, due this fall
* the third book (in the Les Sentiers des Astres series) by Stefan Platteau, due this fall
* the second book in the La Part des Ombres duology by Gabriel Katz, due this fall

Maybe it's the current circumstances, but I'm going to be glad when this book is finished. My impression fluctuated between 2 & 4 stars, now it's around 3. These last chapters are between Obédaï (or is it Cataxak?, a bit like Fistandantilus & Raistlin in Dragonlance), with some things I just don't quite get, also because there should have been more line breaks/paragraphs, as events don't always flow/follow very well.

Reading's been going a bit slow these past days. Not because I didn't want to. I've got mixed feeling about this book. It's good and not good. Some happenings are a little too easy (magic like it's an everyday commodity, eliminating opponents without a proper struggle, ...), & yet I want to rally for Erkan (the new/future king, on his quest to claim the throne of his forefathers).
