La Malerune : Intégrale (La Malerune, #1-3)
Book 3 is the largest and the slowest. Definitely too wordy. Not everything needs to be told in detail. *sigh*

I haven't read much the past few days, hence the slow progress. But I like the story a lot, not in the least because of Abercrombie's humour... and a pinch of philosophy. :) Despite the bloodshed and violent scenes.

Really liking it so far. The style, the humour, ... Abercrombie knows how to write. 🙂

Mixed feelings. On the one hand, it interests me very much (the Celtic civilisation), on the other, I might be a little too influenced by other reviewers, who were very sceptical about Robb's theory: the Celts having followed solstice lines, the Heraklean Way, to settle themselves. Robb has a fluent pen, but sometimes the information seems to jump about. One must stay focused when reading this.

Not all stories are equally good, which is normal for anthologies, but the majority definitely is, so far.

So far, so good. I'm liking it. 4 stories done, 14 to go. Smooth writing style, relatively accessible, a touch of humour, some original ideas (imho), ... and the science is not that hard (yet?).

to have all they need: tools, food, etc. There was never any previous mention of that. Oh and Rodd MacRonn... Macron (French president? ;-))? Of course, this book was written several years ago. I also noticed influences from LOTR, Dragonlance (people living in the trees, connected with bridges, etc.; a white-robed healer - White was the colour of the good wizards in DL) and alike. Book 3 is for later.

So yes, predictable. Also, Lucia's temper is annoying: one time she's annoying & ungrateful, the other time she's all friendly and likeable. Also, suddenly Ariale (10 yo) suddenly is a proficient medicine woman, after having spent a bare minimum with one of Zétide's (aka Hypolus of La Cabale, a sort of FBI or CIA) colleagues who follows the White Way (Healing). Qué? Also, when the group flees, they seem...

Book 2 (Le dire des Sylfes) done. Mixed feelings, not super positive. Lots of adventuring, running from the Maûnes (evil creatures), fighting them. The quest for the Ultimate Rune continues. Some things are very predictable, but the magic and communication sytem (via special trees and its indigenous creatures) is quite original. Robert's style is far more accessible than Grimbert's, but that's not always good.

Michel Robert has a far more accessible style than Grimbert, which doesn't always benefit the story or the reading pleasure, imho. The past week I haven't been able to read much , due to external circumstances, troubling my mind. But regardless, my reading pleasure isn't 100%, yet I do want to finish the book(s).

for the survival of all. She even has more magical abilities than thought; even Zétide aka Hypolus is not in the know of this, but wants her to develop her magic for good (not for warrior-like purposes). All of them now have found safety in Zétide's fortress, magically hidden in Arcadie, his homeland. But not all is well, as the Maûnes have conquered many territories. The quest continues... one rune found so far.
