"Book 2: started good, even better than the 1st. Takes place 15 years later (you must have read the 1st volume), again focus on our students (now adults). Ismaël is a "Fréquence" (or head of one, like an emperor). Still, some uneven bits, gaps for the reader to fill in. Characters still indistinguishable, no proper personality (to me). Again, not consistent enough to "fully" enjoy the story. 240 pages to go for V2." Nov 24, 2025 11:09PM

"Yes, still going... very slowly, also because you have to keep your mind to it, even if it's a bit of a page-turner. Circumstances just don't allow me to go faster, also as other books come in-between." Jun 10, 2024 12:40AM

“Alors retiens aussi cette deuxième leçon: la fierté ne t'attirera que des ennuis si tu te fais attraper. Colle-la dans ton froc et fais plutôt mine d'être désolé et d'avoir été obligé par quelqu'un. Invente ce que tu veux, mais ne provoque jamais ceux qui te tiennent en leur pouvoir. Jamais.”
Fabien Cerutti, Le Fou prend le Roi

“You and the tree in your backyard come from a common ancestor. A billion and a half years ago, the two of you parted ways. But even now, after an immense journey in separate directions, that tree and you still share a quarter of your genes. . . .”
Richard Powers, The Overstory

“This is not our world with trees in it. It's a world of trees, where humans have just arrived.”
Richard Powers, The Overstory

“Life is terrifying. None of us have a rule book. None of us know what we're doing here. So, the easiest way to stare reality in the face and not utterly lose your shit is to believe that you have control over it. If you believe you have control, then you believe you're at the top. And if you're at the top, then people who aren't like you... well, they've got to be somewhere lower, right? Every species does this. Does it again and again and again. Doesn't matter if they do it to themselves, or another species, or someone they created.”
Becky Chambers, A Closed and Common Orbit

“N'essaye jamais de détrousser quelqu'un qui fait deux fois ta taille et qui porte une épée, surtout s'il est accompagné de deux types du genre de ceux qui sont avec moi! C'est compris?”
Fabien Cerutti, Le Fou prend le Roi
