So it's definitely 4 stories in one bigass book... and I think I've entered the boring part of the stories where the finale is set-up. So I have to suffer through 4 boring set-ups I assume.

I still like it; I'm interested in all of the plotlines. I wish they were more connected, however.

Wow this book is VERY good.

This behemoth has been on my bookshelf for 3 years. I finally worked up the courage to take it on. It will be the longest and highest-rated book I've ever read. Complete opposite of the stubby crap-fest I recently finished. Ho!

It's been a week and 10 pages and I like this book even less.

I've resorted to downloading the pdf and having Adobe read it to me in its 2006 text-to-speech robot voice. Yes, it reads the page number, title and author every page, in mid-sentence. Why not quit, you wonder? Well I'm not going to give a reason, similar to this book giving no reasons for it's characters' actions.

Ugh... this plot... I don't understand ANY of the character's motivations. I've been asking myself why I'm reading it and the only thing I can admit is that it has some cool sci-fi concepts.

This books makes me believe that I could write sci-fi novels. Maybe that's why I keep reading, for the inspiration...

This one's a real clunker. I feel like it was written in a rush with only one rough draft.

Uck. The characters lack depth and their motivations are vague. I think I'm reading a bad action movie. I wish it had an audio format so I can do something more fun while I experience this one

I trust goodreads' aggregate scores very much but it's made me realize that I am a stingy critic. That being said, this book is gonna suck! But if I'm the type to buy random sci-fi books at random used book stores I gotta bite the bullet sometimes. Here we go!

Ok wow.... 400 pages of plot development and then hive-mind zombie outbreak out of nowhere??? ... whatever, at least it's not boring :D

"The Reality Dysfunction, Part 1: Emergence" LOL, Nice title nerd. I love it. I'm 90% sure there's going to be a human/living ship/human threesome at some point. Why do I ever read anything but 90's space operas???...

Y'know, this is starting off really great! I wasn't in the mood for a sprawling space opera: the kind with multiple, loosely-connected storylines... Well, to my surprise, this isn't one! It's a nice, tight story with only an occasional flashback storyline. Good stuff. ...AND there's no sequel so I can look forward to the last 200 pages actually ending the story instead of setting up the next. yay

What a delightful speedwalk through a magical world... Seems like a speedy pace but maybe I'm used to books that are twice as long.

OKaaay this author has definitely done LSD. Much of this book takes place inside the main character's mind. Many of the descriptions are cross-sensory (moon's cold steel light, brown smell of sex, etc...). It seems like Sumner has some mind/body epiphany everywhere he goes.
I'm starting to roll my eyes whenever someone changes their mental configuration, so abstract... it was fun at first but it's getting old...

This book is losing my adoration... every 90 pages this guy goes though an existential crisis, led by one spiritual guide to another... each time he changes his concept of self and his existence. I dunno... maybe that's the point, it's about the journey blah blah... maybe the crisis I'm reading now is the last one... still a possible 5 stars... we'll see...
