Too many characters. It's a very interesting book tho.

Well now the ash that fell on the world on the other side of the gateway in the Indian Ocean is growing weird bio-mechanical parts... I can see now that I'm going to finish this series, I MUST know who the hypotheticals really are.....

Mmmm delicious sci-fi... planet-encompassing time barriers, unexplained portals to other worlds, ancient self-replicating machine gods, etc, etc...

I'd go crazy in a gateway trip. No doubt. 40 days in an enclosed space alone? By then end I'd be living in a fantasy world I built inside my head, eating pretend food like in Hook, talking to anthropomorphized objects in the ship....

I don't know why I put off reading this for so long! This should have been one of my first sci-fi books I read. I've missed my bus stop 3 times because I was so engrossed! Robo-therapist and smelly spaceships! Woohoo!!

WOOOW that took a turn... Richard is becoming the "mate" of a torturer/sorcerous. The torture has been going on for 50 pages now and it keeps getting more and more sexual.... anywho, almost through, 126p left!!

Oh my god, getting closer to the end now. This book is a loooong walk in the woods with 2 or 3 VERY annoying people. Well, at least it's a magical woods.

Mud people!!! I've been in the village of mud people for 75 pages!! Honorable and stubborn, they will only help our heros IF they become mud people following a hearing earned by fixing their stupidly-designed mud-huts!! Currently I'm at a banquet celebrating their induction before the summoning of the mud spirits so the mud spirits can locate the 3rd magic box.... sigh..... this is what i signed up for i guess....

I need to read faster!

Off on an epic adventure!! I like the writing style. Terry provides an excellent framework for your imagination to fill in. The dialogue is a little clunky but I am finding that it adds to the charm somehow... I can see myself not getting bored for the next 700 pages...

I want a lengthy, vivid adventure in a fantasy world. I've been in space for too long. Take me away, Terr!

It's nice to read a short, simple story like this. Even though some of it is tedious, I think it has a meaning in the end. We'll see.

But I'm thinking now that the cover art is going to be the LAST scene, completely opposite of what I thought...

The story is flowing nicely. I am starting to see why this is so popular. I think I'm getting most of the references but it seems if I was born maybe 6 years earlier I'd get all of them

WOooooo!!!! Sci-Fi! I really like Neal Asher and stumbled upon a Polity book (Skinner) randomly solely based on fact that I liked the cover. I have a feeling I may add one of his to my most-best-favorites. Maybe this one!!!
