Something quick to read while @mandyfish plays FreeRealms.

An interesting, if ultimately shallow, book.

Reasonably interesting, so far. Directly references several books I've just read, almost to the point of turning this one irrelevant.

...political network science makes my brain feel all fuzzy...

Have to take this back to the library unfinished. Re-requesting it when I get back to town!

Didn't get very far yesterday, but immediately knew why I wanted to read it. It's about science, not Internet tomfoolery!

Don't remember who suggested this, but I'll give it a try.

I cannot recommend this book, unless you're trying to profile the insanity of the modern Friedmanite.

Central ridiculous idea here: "…markets are not to blame when gov'ts fail to properly regulate them." Total faith in free markets = fail.

&here is where the author advocates not only a huge military-industrial complex, but its use to wage worldwide wars over energy.

On this page, author claims that a gov't making the same observations as THIS BOOK defies common sense & harms the free market.

On this page the author literally describes "free market capitalism" as his religion, gospel to be preached to the world.

Also problematic is the author's belief that companies are valid political actors, more important than citizens & government officials.

It is the author's belief that political goals never serve the public welfare that seems central to his fear of "state capitalism".

One more try to get through this. It's painful. Full of assumptions about things which are either unproven or flat-out lies.

Due back at the library tomorrow. Better try to slog through the rest of this dreck.

When corporations do the same things the author complains about governments doing, he says it's a good thing. Double-standard, much?

Picking this up again, even though it's full of empty rhetoric and endemic self-contradiction.

Been reading this a little at a time while waiting in lines. It seems to give me a headache.

Read this while doing errands this morning. Fascinating sci-fi poetry.

I still don't know how to start the story I'm writing, so I'm going to try reading, tonight.

About to stop reading the margin-notes, as they completely ruin the flow of the poetry (& without, so far, adding any meaning to the story).

Done. Now to go see what the Internet has to say about this book. I've never heard of it, & read it cold/uninformed.

...and I admittedly only skimmed the remarkable & strikingly thorough index. If/when I buy this book, the index deserves study.

I seem to be skipping 5 pages of these tiny, brief poems, almost this entire Appendix.

Going to take a break to wander 3rd Friday before delving into Exploration #5.

I ought to go to bed, but I want to keep reading.
