Now Evan popping up at the Thursday night anger management session Frankie decided to go to on a whim...different story. What's with this dude?

Also, aren't they helping her in a way?
I suspected one person, but they're sort of occupied at the moment, so can't be them...IDK! 🤔

Coming of Age always hits home for me. Literally nothing could be happening and I am still so invested. There's something about the innocence and feeling of opportunity in these young lives. The world is their oyster. The emotional traumas and challenges they've experienced up to this point only scratch the surface of what the world will ultimately dish out for them. It's such a special time.

Regardless of how I am personally finding the pace of this, there is no denying that the world-building and character work are top shelf. Also, the thoughtful commentary on colonialism, colonial powers and attitudes is exceptional. Finally, enjoying the commentary/exploration of sexuality as well.

I know when some people think of Horror books, they think, scary books, things that scare me, and then if they don't get scared by a book, they say, this isn't Horror.
For me, Horror is a much more nuanced genre than that.
One of my fave subgenres of Horror is the Coming of Age story and so far, this is giving me all the vibes of that! I basically in the summer of 1987, right now...

This is definitely dragging a little for me.
I am wishing for a little more action.
Some details are starting to feel repetitive.
I'm hoping she picks up a bit in the second half.

This definitely reminds me of Lepore's last novel.
I like the little mixed media portions from the police transcripts.

This makes me so tense, I can hardly stand it.

Urban is so great at creating drama-filled mysteries!
This is so much fun. I love the setting and that they are literally trapped on this ship until they can make it to the next port and bodies are still dropping.

This has really come around for me as far as my investment level.
I'm a little startled by the reveal. I had another suspect in mind...I guess that other person isn't as terrible as I have been thinking they are...

I'm not as invested as with The Echo Man, but still feel this is a solid read.

FINALLY!!

Very intriguing concept. Slow build, I'm not hooked yet, but I'm hanging on and hoping that I start to get more swept up in. Right now, I feel like I am more waiting for something to start happening. I mean, a little is happening. I'm intrigued by what's going on with Proctor, the dreams and stuff. Definitely want to see what that means and where that goes.

If Jade goes back to Silas, I riot. It's that simple.

I love that he calls her Rocky and if she doesn't want to date Felix, I will! 🙋‍♀️
