Again, this kicks off so quickly. By the second chapter, Hal and Uncle Nat have already landed in South Africa and are at the train station!! Hal is excited to draw the animals he sees while on this journey, so I am definitely looking forward to those corresponding illustrations!

I love the sections with the perspective of the river.
I always love a sense of place when a story and the way this is done is great. The history and feeling, the desperation. It's really well done.
Obviously, not the same genre, but it reminds me of Ophie's Ghosts by Justina Ireland.
