This book is growing on me

Well, this is absolutely nothing like what I expected. Very interesting.

Love Mari Ness' story

So many twists and turns. It's impossible to know how this will end

No idea where it's going form here

I understand the book's title now. Another fascinating twist in the story.

Relatively long short stories - lots of breathing room without dipping into novella territory.

Part 2 and what I believe is the true plot of the book

Definitely a different "character" to the stories from Lightspeed. I'm starting to see how each magazine has a different house feel for the stories they choose to publish.

Finally reached an inflection point for Rin. Good, because otherwise this was going to be a very annoying book to read.

So far these have all been great stories, especially the one the cover art depicts.

Finished the main story. Have to read the bonus short story.

Couple notes for the eventual review:
- the sparing use of profanity made it so much more impactful when used.
- loved the running gag with the menu changes

Definitely the most depressing of the 3 fiction books I'm currently reading.

Jumped down to this on my digital-on-deck list because I was looking for a book I already owned (to stay in my book budget for the month). It will take all my will-power not to just stay up all night tonight to finish this novella. Once again Nghi Vo has hit it out of the park with Chih. This time, it appears the characters are borrowing from Vietnamese. (I think last time was northern china or Korea:can't remember)

So far I'm really enjoying the narrative style. Great pick for S&L for april. Started early since the next Sanderson surprise book comes out 1 April.

I'm barely into the story and I'm already having a hard time putting it down.

starting right where we left off in book 1

A good, comprehensive explanation of the SNES-CD deals and what happened. It was crazier than I ever knew.

Now I understand a whole lot more about the SNES marketing I was exposed to as a kid and how thing changed near the end of the of the system's lifespan

Unlike other similar books or web articles, this one admits when the story is unknown or has competing origins. Love the honesty.

3D graphics - the area in which I was starting to become more techonologically aware. I remember this period well.

Now I understand why Genesis had better arcade ports (same chips as the arcade machines), but also why SNES's controller was so amazing. (And introduced things like shoulder buttons that persist to this day)

Onto the specs....

If you're interested in this period of Nintendo history, it's definitely worth getting past the academic style of writing. I'm enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would.

Love the framing of Spelunky XBLA as a fan remake of Spelunky Classic

I had no idea the NEC PC-Engine was a team-up with Hudson. Or that it had a CD-ROM! I thought that was only for the post-SNES/Genesis world.

I didn't realize just how crazy Nintendo's licensing deals were. No wonder they lost control during the CD-ROM era

It's fun to read one of these by the developer themselves. Also funny to read about Dwarf Fortress given the recent, more accessible update.

It's got a bit more of a college paper feel than a simple narrative, but I'm excited about the premise: going against the usual grain of Nintendo praise.
