Done with the SF section. Enjoyed all the stories although the Yoon Ha Lee one was a bit hard to grok. Started up the fantasy stories.

Harry gets hired. Love the scrappy pup.

I definitely need to start reading these more back-to-back so I can remember the stories since these aren't that self-contained. Hope to start doing that this year.

What a place to have to stop reading for now

Julia is indexed on base-1. On the one hand - this makes sense to every non-CS major. On the other hand - this makes NO sense to every CS major. Which is worse in a programming language?

It's fascinating to see where the designers went with a Pythonic syntax and where they deviate towards a more Ruby-ish syntax.

Plot is a little slow-going, but the characters sound more like real people than characters in a story, so it's got that going for it for the moment.

intriguing since this seems to be the first (one of the first?) where the kid involved doesn't have a tragic start

Oh man, I should not have waited this long to get to this sequel/prequel - it is incredibly well-written.

The first two chapters read like british middle grade books (think the first one or two Harry Potter books) and I am loving the style, especially the incongruities between the style and the contents: like the way that the Wolcotts conceived.

Another twist. Kuang is so good at how unpredictable war is.

Another plot twist. Man, I am so anxious to see how this ends!
