Yarros is really putting Violet through the wringer. Too bad it's not an anime - we could really use a beach or hot springs episode to loosen the tension for a bit.

I was not expecting any of that! Wow, I have no idea how this book/trilogy will resolve. Exciting!!

Love the consequences to the narrative in a meta-sense of having a dragon in your head constantly. Instant peanut gallery for a 1st person narration.

Characters have learned more, but we haven't...

I wasn't shocked by the first twist. Anyone with knowledge of tropes would have seen Chekhov's Dragon. That doesn't make it bad though - it was quite a journey there with a few red herrings and a moment that had be doubting myself.

Only just seeing the beginnings of romance tropes. This is a legit great fantasy in the tradition of school/college fantasy plots on its own without the romance parts.
