The motivating disaster has occurred - the gated community was breached, all the things burned and then scavenged, many residents killed, some after being raped first, even if they were only 8. Now there are 3 from the neighborhood heading north together. They don't know each other well, and trust is still low. Danger is everywhere, and they have to watch out for each other.

So many paragraphs seemed quotable, I was reading some to Chris and then discussing, sometimes in light of the "stuff" going on for her at work.
