We'd forgotten about some of the many shenanigans foisted on the country during this time - unleashing federal troops on protesters in the wake of Floyd's murder, making states bid against each other for PPE, having the R convention hosted from the WH and other significant locations in violation of laws and norms. Unbelievable, if we hadn't lived through it all.

Are his remote saviors really just setting him up? Things may have gotten messy.

Things have finally been going better - Ray has contact with another spaceship with multiple people on it, and they should rendezvous with him in about 4 days.

So painful to be reminded of the details of the first impeachment! And then to be reminded of all the steps the T**** administration took to try to destabilize the government - end runs to get family in prominent roles, firing people for not repeating his lies, demanding absolute fealty or else. Like his former chief of staff John Kelly says - how can anyone still support him? It boggles the mind.

This relationship sounds exhausting, and maybe that's Patchett's intent - to show Lucy's neediness. It's hard not to feel bad, for both of them, really, hearing about the challenges of their relationship as friends.

Fun EVA he had to do to get the air supply piping fixed - jet pack and all.

I'm intrigued by this story so far - very much in the style of Andy Weir's books that I enjoyed, The Martian and Project Hail Mary. Somehow everyone else on the space station is dead except for the narrator, who is still trying to figure out how to get access to any systems so he can try to survive.

Interesting, again, how many significant differences there are from the movie scenes. Especially thinking of the "must go faster" movie scene with the t rex chasing the jeep - nothing like that in the book at all. No impact tremors noticed in a glass or puddle, all that is only in the movie!

"Republicans are schemers" is one way to summarize the past couple of chapters. Interesting how many of the names are familiar from today's news, eg Manafort, Stone, Norquist, McConnell, etc.

They've just made it to Jurassic Park and seen their first dinosaurs, and much of this was fairly similar to the movie. It does make me appreciate how they enhanced some things for dramatic visual effect in the movie!

I find it enjoyable when a story I know from a movie (like I assume almost everyone does with this story) develops in a way that's quite different from the movie. In this case, all the info in this "first iteration" was completely lacking in the movie.

Needing eight hours of sleep a night is evidently a myth.
