Mick had the bright idea to make Chaz think they're going to blackmail him. And we see him deal with some riffraff by shooting out their boat motor, so we see something about his temperament.

Joey being helped by rescuer Mick. Her bro in NZ knows she's alive and must be part of her plan (that hasn't exactly been shared, yet) to try to irritate her husband Chaz and get some retribution. We just got a big hint that Chaz is faking the science when he dumped out a water sample that was not trivial to extract.

Two contredances (whatever those are!) by Mozart, in G and A/a.

Seems we've got the outline of the story set - Joey thrown overboard, now assumed dead but very much alive, husband Chaz pretending to be upset and distraught.

Looking at "life tasks," ie how are we trying to focus our efforts as we move through life? Such as Integrity vs Despair, Generative, Career Consolidation, Interpersonal, Imperial.

This was ch 13, about personality - "what energy do you bring into the room?" Started with GW Bush and extroversion, described various other personality types from the Big Five traits (and dissed Myers-Briggs as having "no scientific validity.").

Two pieces by Neefe, a composer I didn't know at all. I'm 5 minute more familiar with him now. :-)

Quite a contrast from the Corea stuff I was playing just before that!

In the Gene portion of the story, the war is over and it's rapidly moving through his life, approaching the author's present day. Gene was not a fun guy to live with, that seems clear.

Yesterday sigh-read Corrette's La Confession, a theme w 2 variations over 3 pages.

Didn't remember to update yesterday's 2 pages of Rameau and Handel. Today was 2 Bach pieces but CPE and WF Bach (not JS).

Today, a Daquin Tambourin (left hand part identical repeated chord throughout:-) ), and a Handel Passepied, harmonically unsatisfying to me.

Telemann Bouree today - tough(er - they're all tough!) for me to sight read this one.

Two more Handel pieces - a sarabande and an andantino.

Much has happened. Carmen passed 21 Dec 2012. Gene, back in 1944, has endured the hell ship, and a 2nd POW camp. And now they're being moved out by "another conveyance."

2 pieces by Handel (Ayreford, Rigaudon).

Considering vampires and ghosts, references to other stories, and use of Shakespeare in new works.

Part of "getting it" of course depends on knowing something of the original, but even when you don't know it going in it can add depth when you learn of the connection afterward.

Gene's had his first few missions (1943), including an unexpected run to Norway to cripple a heavy water facility. He's had to help disable their bombs when they got stuck in their bombing run, and had one mission missed when their pilot was sick and he wasnt picked as a sub. Fortunately (?) His crewmates that were subs all made it back.

How are we shaped by our sufferings?
In this book's form of using the Illuminator model, we focus on seeing the suffering and needs of others, eg Phil Connors has discovered the needs of most of the people around him so he must have seen them via some conversations we don't see onscreen.

Looking at empathy skills, and how people are affected by their experiences as infants and toddlers. Especially appreciated the statements about anger on p141.

It's always nice to have a book with an engaging start!
