This is a brilliant novel. I know many will dismiss this as generic old school fantasy, but generic old school fantasy is selling bucketloads today at the hands of writers with bland prose.

This is better.

Restarted this today. In a slump, love me some Mithgar. I cannot out it down.

The writing is richer, newer characters, a shift in tone towards a more adult feel...this for me is where Maas really upped her game. Loving this reread.

Annnnnd this series goes from strength to strength. I remembered Crown Of Midnight being the first book I gave five stars, and now I know why. Its just addictive blockbuster fantasy.

Rereading Throne Of Glass, I'm reminded of The Philosophers Stone. Book one, cliche, tropey...yet has a special X Factor? Absolutely. I could pick this book apart. Maas isn't one of the finest fantasy authors in terms of brilliance. But...she overcomes many flaws with utter charm. And like the first Harry Potter novel, book one is a mere glimpse at the bigger picture.

I think the second half of this book really improves. In fact, this book as a whole is better upon a reread than it was as a first time read. Bodes well for the rest of the series.

Okay the book is much better as it goes along. It's still impressive to me how much this series grew from this book.

This is a reread. I've hit an awkward slump, one where I love all the books I'm reading but can't face picking them up. So...Audible and a book/series I love (though its not my typical fare).

Maybe it's just me, but this book is better the second go around. I initially gave it 3/5, and though I think it remains that score, you can't deny how easy this is to binge

I took an extended break from this series. Why? Well, I had binged the series up to this point, and simply got worn out. I'm so glad I did! Today I resumed Of War And Ruin and felt at home immediately!
